Default I need help with a mom's permanent memory!

I want to get a tattoo in memory of my mother. Her birthday was March 8th and her passing away date is Feb 1st of 1999. I want a tribal butterfly. The tribal for my heritage and butterfly because we both collect them. I would also like to have my children's frst and middle initials in the webbing somewhere.

The questions come here. Am I crazy for putting this on a otherwise ink free body. And should I do it on mom's birthday or the day of death?

I think it's a wonderful tribute. It also helps to give some closure too.

I had nicknames for my daughters. Taryn was the butterfly and Erika was the rainbow. For Erika's 18th birthday, she got her first tattoo in her sister's memory.

    A rainbow colored butterfly.

Edited to add: You should do it on her birthday. Celebrate her life, not her passing.

Hate to be a negative voice here, however, it's permanent, if you can't find value in it's permanent location and representation on your body, no one else's opinion will make it O.K.

Me, Naw, I don't really like ink on me, there is very few things I could see on me permanently.

It's very personal and up to you, but I agree that her birthday would be a better occasion than her death day. And I love the idea of including a reference to your children; it emphasizes that she lives on through her descendants.

I think this is really beautiful.

I think memorial tattoos are an amazing tribute. I'm getting one myself.

I think you should get it too. Do you have an idea on location yet?

I have a tribute tattoo, I have it on my lower hip. I kept mine small, and mostly hidden, as it was personal to me, and I didn't want to answer alot of questions about it. I love it though. I would get it on her birthday. There are some really cool ways to add in initials and names too, a good artist will be able to help you.

My first tat was in my mom's memory. I didn't do it ON a specific day though... I just did it when I was able to. I'd say do it on her birthday if you really want to do it on a memorial day. You'll be in better spirits.
