Default how hard is it to unlock (or get unlock code) a sidekick so i can use for cingular?

I really want the sidekick, but I despise TMobile.
I really like cingular. I'm assuming I would buy a sidekick and then keep bugging tmobile reps to give me the code.

would I then just use it for any plan on cingular? I'd still be able to keep my phone number, my account, my contract, and be able to send and receive text messages like normal, right?

    anyone done this?

any recommendations for cheapest place to get the sidekick (I'm assuming I'll get the sidekick 3.)

i saw on a couple online links you just need a code and you can use a sim card in the sidekick...

t-mobile has a handshake with hiptop. If this is the sidekick, it's as simple as bugging the reps, however you need to be 7 months into your commitment, as of my last unlocking.

If it's a sidekick2 they don't have a limit yet that I am familiar with.

They have a IMEI Unlock generator similar to software key generators so if you dig around the internet you will find one. Secondly, your E-mail and Browser functionality will NOT work because the software is pre-programed with the routers listing on t-mobile's gprs network. Since Cingular (and others) use their own routers so they can bill on their own useage, the actual software will not allow the use of non-t-mobile I.P.s.

All talk of using the e-mail and browser functionality is due to the result of someone buying/getting the software development kit from hiptop and writing their own software or someone boasting about getting the source code for the browser and rewriting it, I've never seen a fix due to that list. However, the data capabilities of that phone you can pretty much say goodbye to if you unlock it.

I've only done this maybe 8 times so take it with a grain of salt, however each time I get sms/phone to work successfully on the Cellone/sprint network here in town, cingular shouldn't be too hard. Including my own. So yea, get a generator or bug the reps (I'm sure,SURE one or two reps will break the 7 month min as long as you don't cancel your contract...in the same call) put in your cingular sim, reboot the phone, enter the generated unlock code, and the new sim will work.

I haven't see it for sale in the stores, but I'm sure you could find it online somewhere....

it's the LG 9100. It's nice, but the sidekick is cooler by far. This phone has no camera, speakerphone and you can't browse the web. But for AOL and Yahoo IM or text messaging, it's pretty nice.

ehhh...i had a sidekick...its usless unless you are able to use all of the functinos on it (web browsing and email) so i would say dont do it, because you wont be able to get all of the features. (as said in post above ^^)

    yup
I have a sidekick right now, and there is no point to getting it bc even if you get the phone unlocked to use cingular you still wont be able to use most of the functions. Even ringtones you wont be able to get. Last year I had tmobile and used an unlocked cingular phone and I couldnt do anything except call or text. I dont see why you would spend the money for a sidekick when it would not be worth it at all.
Why are you so against TMobile? Ive always had their service so for about 6-7 years and honestly Ive never had a problem.

    I have this LG and it's great. It's the 9800, not 9100

that's a verizon phone though, right?

there's not much for cingular besides pocket PCs, blackberries, treos and the LG 9100/9200

the new blackjack looks cool, but it's not sidekick.

Right now, if you're going to be choosing to get something, make sure it's functional. The Motorola Q seems to be best fit for the money on Verizon's network. I've outfitted a few of them with some pretty decent software and they don't make a girl carrying them in their front pocket look like she has a penis from the side, i.e. the sidekick.

I don't suggest getting away from the standard phone, but if you're looking for versatility and longevity (which means getting to your next chance to buy a phone at cheaper rates) spend more now.

Treo's are still my all time fav to work on, though the PALM version handles text msging out of the box so much more elegantly than the Windows Mobile out of the box, but most treos can be easily modified to handle txt msging akin to the 700p (best handling one I've seen and I txt a LOT so it matters since it now supports EvDO) just, more apps available for win mobile!

I currently use an e815m, not so much because it's a phone or that I don't practice what I preach, but basically cause I've ripped this phone a new asshole in so many ways and despite it's horrible history, it still works! And I've completely opened up blue tooth, and can maintain decent high speed web connectivity on all networks undetected, and thusly unbilled. THOUGH in the beginning there I broke the txt msg app and it was sending all my replies to txt's to the person who txt'd me just before the one I was replying to. Embarrassing and hard to detect at first

    Mastridonicus.... occupation:foole

If you're on a GSM network like t-mobile or sprint, get the phones that appear in the most services, like the treo's which are available on almost every service...then changing services isn't all that hard... Hell there may even be a way to take a gsm treo and flash it to run on Verizon's network.... perhaps.

But that's a great rule of thumb. If you don't want to be tied to a service, don't get a phone that's tied to a service no matter how much you like it. But I got to admit, I loved my sidekick. Almost made t-mobile worth it...since we don't have ANY service where I live
