    Default nosebleeds

so i never got them as a kid. ever. never even had one until the last year ish. i dont snort anything, but i do take nasal sprays (flonase and astelin) for allergies, which i have been on for years. however, i don't think this is related to those two. when i was off the meds for days i still had the nose bleeds.
they aren't gushers. they are like, "oh i think i have snot dripping let me get a kleenex and *blow* and... red? everywhere? what the..." moments. if anyone ever saw the CSI where the guy snots blood all over the wall of his apt to get back at the landlord, i feel my kleenexes look like that when im thru.

so anyways, my q is, what coudl be causing this? any ideas? the only 2 i have are dry winter, but ive lived in philly for years... or this little bump on the underside inside of my nostril that has gotten slightly bigger (i think it migh tbe a polyp)... any ideas?

    Love it!

Dry air is a big cause for em.. if im in a place where the air is dry I get them. Also smokey bars n stuff can cause em... allergies...dust.. etc... its usually something in the air.

From http://www.entnet.org/healthinfo/nose/nosebleeds.cfm (American Academy of Otolaryngology?Head and Neck Surgery)

First they mention a blow to the nose as the primary cause. Then:

    Additional Causes Of Nosebleeds:

Allergies, infections, or dryness that cause itching and lead to picking of the nose.
Vigorous nose blowing that ruptures superficial blood vessels in the elderly and in the young.
Clotting disorders that run in families or are due to medications.
Fractures of the nose or of the base of the skull that can cause bleeding and should be regarded seriously when the bleeding follows a head injury.
Rarely, tumors (both malignant and nonmalignant) have to be considered, particularly in the older patient or in smokers.

so... your allergies may be causing them? or winter dryness. nothing to be worried about, most likely.

Hahhaah weird part is.... I ALWAYS get a small nosebleed 1 day before my period. odd, huh? like- hello, you'll be bleeding somewhere else tomorrow. just to let you know.

are u getting them during the night or just before u wake up?
my boyfriend sometimes gets them during the night. not sure why tho.
if u think u might have a polyp u should get it checked out straight away. polyps can occur before a cancerous tumour (i dont want to alarm u) but my beautician's husband had some polyps removed a while ago and now he has to have his nose checked every few months to make sure there are no cancerous lesions. better to be safe than sorry. but it's most likely to be something much less serious im sure.

I'm the same way. It's been estra screwy this year with the weird weather. But I'll blow my nose and it'll be all bloody. It's stuff in the air. Causing dryness, reactions, etc.

It's scary, but unless it's ALL the time, it's not something to worry about.

Agreed on the winter drying factor. I have electric heat and that is really damaging to the already fragile membranes in my nose.

Wierd when I first started getting my periods this used to happen to me too. Thankfully it stopped after a few months.
I remember one of my girlfriends laughed when I told her and said "Ha, what, your period comes out of your nose?!"

It could also be dehydration in combo with the dry air. I know that when I get nosebleeds it's because I'm not drinking enough water...and the dry factor.
