    Default Unexplained Bruises??

Okay, a few days ago I woke up and felt terribly sore on the upper part of my leg and the lower half of my left arm. Well, yesterday I got a good look at my leg and I kid you not, it looks like someone beat me with a baseball bat. The bruise is about 10 inches long and 3 inches wide. The thing that gets me is that I did not fall or bump into anything at all. This is really freaking me out. Do any of you have an idea of what this could possibly be? Should I go to a doctor?

I get bruises all the time and I have no idea where they come from; I get scratches on my thigh as well it is weird. But are you 100% sure that you didn't bump into anything?

Do you sleepwalk? or sleep with your partner (if you have one)?

Bruises are nothing to see a doctor about really but just see what happens in a few days. If you get more bruises see a doctor.

Sometimes if you have the smallest knock against something you will end up with a big bruise (happens to my friend alot); do you take any medication? If so there might be some side effects.

Sometimes if you do bump something try to rub the area first so you don't get a big bruise.

    Hope you feel better soon!!

Did you have a drunken night recently where you might have stumbled and not remembered?

There are also some medical conditions that would make you more prone to bruising. I think its simple stuff like iron-deficiency anemia, but I'm too tired right now to research so don't quote me on that.

I have horrible bruises all the time and I rarely remember how i got them. Stage, pole...hell...bumping into a chair is enough to make me look like I've been beaten half to death

This is true. I'm anemic and bruise just thinking about it.

Funny you mention that...a very close friend of mine woke up after a night of drinking and called to tell me about it. She said her butt was sore and she didn't know why. Later she called to tell me that she had a huge, black bruise and she was gonna call around to find out what happened to her. Apparently when she and another friend were at her house, the friend went outside to smoke a cigarette. My friend was talking on the phone out her [second story] bedroom window and talking to her friend on the sidewalk below when she dropped her phone. Rather than going thru her apartment and down the stairs to get her phone, she decided to CLIMB out her window. She dangled for a bit from the ledge before falling onto the sidewalk. She's lucky she didn't break anything.

Anyway, drinking was always the cause of my nastiest and most unexplainable bruises, as well!

I use to get them back in the day when I actually went on stage. It's weird they just appear there. Use dermablend or use the tanning bed to diguise them.

Just one unexplained bruise isnt much to b concerned about. Like others have said, you may have bumped it somehow without realizing it.

If you start noticing many unexplained bruises popping up, that can indicte a problem, and you should see a doctor.

Me too, it's awful. I brush against something without noticing, and bam! a brig ol' bruise the next day. I try to make a mental note when it happens, so I won't be all wtf? about it later.

for your sake though, i hope it's not anemia. To me, I have to plan things around it, make sure I always take my vitamins, eat well, constantly have snacks around (and good things, not junk). It's not so bad, just a bummer, b/c if I slack a little bit, I get majorly weak, dizzy, and have passed out. More inconvienient then anything, it's mostly about maintenance.

Take some iron pills for a little while. Put some arnica gel on it. Conceal it at work.

One unexplained bruise is 'ok,' not happy, buy ok. You prob did it a couple days ago and didn't realize it and it's only reaching skin level now...

I was at the doc the other day for another issue and brought up the fact that I had been bruising pretty badly lately. She said that bruises along the legs, thighs, butt are not normally indicative of anything serious. She said that if you start having excessive bleeding when you brush your teeth or if you get bruises on odd parts of your body that it might indicate a bleeding disorder.

Main point, don't worry too much about it. I've been taking these little Arnica pellets that I got from a homeopath and it seems to be helping.

The other week I woke up with scratches all over my ass, it looked like I'd had wild ass sex with a tiger or something. I had no idea where they came from, I went to bed without them (alone!) and woke up, got into the shower and there they were. I don't have nails neither.

Thanks for all of the replies! I'm thinking it may be anemia, so I'm going to go get some iron pills and multi-vitamins with extra iron and do some reading on the net about it. For those of you that have it-is it just a temporary deficiency and then you go back to normal after taking vitamins and changing your diet? Or once you get it do you have it for life?

I would just keep taking the tablets but maybe reduce on how many pills you take.

But keep eating foods with iron in + It's also important to have plenty of vitamin C in the diet because it helps the body to absorb iron.

    this is a great site:

if you're b12 deficent, you can (if it's mild enough) control it through diet/supplements. Many people do need shots (I fight it as much as I can).

The only way to know for sure i blood tests.
