is $2MILLION enough health insurance? I'm considering taking the (free) plan at my employer (BlueCross) with a 2MM cap. Are there statistics on how many diseases/incidents exceed that lifetime cap?

These are really questions you should be asking human resources.
If BlueCross is your employer you shouldn't have any problems finding the answers.

you have it soooo good. getting insurance as an independent contractor is a joke. take it! get supplemental insurance if you feel you need more.

The disease that really caused the 'lifetime' cap to become widespread among health insurers was AIDS. Also, the wider availability of transplant surgeries contributed to the lifetime cap as well.
Playing Devil's advocate, if the rate of 'inflation' of medical costs continues unabated and the lifetime cap stays at $2 million, 20 years from now the medical costs associated with a bad car accident could easily hit the cap !
