I found out tonight that a friend of a close friend (whom i have hung out with several times) was stabbed two nights ago here in philly. not too far from where i live, actually. he was near U Penn, and when the school is on break the Penn Police kinda stop patrolling. He was waiting for the train to the airport to head back to school himself in Arizona. Some (assumed) crackheads walked up and attempted to mug him but instead stabbed him... in the wrist! he needed 6 stitches, and they took not his wallet, or his watch, but his phone! now, who the hell takes a phone but not the money or jewelry?? duuuurrrrrrrrrrhhhh? but..
senseless!
I love my philly, but the senseless crimes are absolutely needing an end. our murder rate is at an all time high, and thuggy kids are "steppin' up" and trying to show that they are "man enuff" and they are trying to mug people. the amount of people, including myself, that i am close with that have been mugged is staggering.
a year and a half ago i was with my ex after work.. we had a routine. i would call, he would come down from the apt with the dog, and we would walk the dog back from my parking spot (parking was awful as i lived near a lot of penn grad students and apts in general). well, we parked, and as we are walking back a crackhead (definite) approaches us. "which way to sansom st?" im facing the dog. "uhhh, that way," my ex says and points north. "ok man. GIMME ALL DA MONEY! DONT TURN AROUND!" instinctively i turn around. "huh?"
"GIMME ALL DA MONEY AND DONT TURN AROUND!"
"but im already facing you..."
"GIMME ALL DA MONEY MANNNN!"
i look at my ex.... i reach into my purse, he into his pants. we come up with $7. (i keep my work money in my underwear til i get home) we hand it to him. but im wearing massive amounts of jewelry from going to dinner earlier that night before work. he doesn't even ask for my diamond earrings... he doesnt even ask for my purse! he just says, "You SURE that's all you got?" i say yea, im sure... and he WALKS not runs off. right toward sansom st.
at the time we laughed, we said, were we just mugged? and when the cops came, we told them to go to sansom st and that's *exactly* where they found my mugger.
this is nonsense!!!! it must end!!!! how can we move forward, raise the next generation in a world like this?! the stupidity... it's laughable, but the actions... they are appalling.
