Default Going on tropical vacation, need tanning advice

Okie doke, I'm going on vacation on Feb. 7 (to Key West, as some may know, and I am trying to come up with the best way to get a bit of a base tan and I am also looking to find the strongest, most effective sunblock available to man.

I was thinking a few sessions in a tanning bed with sunscreen on (not tanning face, of course), and I'll get a little bit of a tan so I won't burn. Then while there I will wear a hat at all times and use strong sunblock.

    Any suggestions?

Def try a few small sessions in the tanning booth. I am VERY fair skinned and the BEST sunblock I've found hands down is Bull Frog. NOTHIN' gets through that stuff.

ps...see you in KW! I'll try to remember my Bullfrog in case you cant find it in your neck of the woods

I agree with the Bullfrog. I also would visit the tanning bed before your trip to avoid burning. I am very fair and did this before my trip to Jamaica. Worked wonderfully.

Skip the sunblock in the tanning bed. Instead, get yourself an indoor tanning product (I really like the Designer Skin line), and start with low minutes, around 5-7 minutes per session 2-3 times per week, and up your minutes each week. Then definitely get some strong sunscreen for your trip.

IMO, you will be wasting your time and money going to a tanning salon if you're just going to be wearing sunscreen when you get there.

If you go to your local tanning bed, the ladies at the front are usually tanning specialists of some sort, that if you describe the way your skin reacts to rays and the color you'd like to reach before a certain time - they will tell you what lotion, and what bed will work for you the best without burning, and will also tell you how to maintain it without burning. They are usually, at least round here, pretty good at working out a successful system.

Which of the Designer Skin line do you use? I see some samples on Ebay and I'll probably just go that route rather than get a whole bottle.

    Ray of Light
    Shameless
    Neurotic and Eurogeny
    Intrigue

Or does it really matter? Most of thes are Buy It Now deals and I'll want to get some soon to start going to the salon.

Out of those, Ray of Light is the one I have used, and it's a more popular one. The other two that I have used from that line are Spellbound and Worship Me. All three of those came highly recommended from the salon and I loved each of them for their own merits...okay, I'm rambling. Buy the Ray of Light samples. It's a good one!

Ok, I just made a bid on the Ray of Light samples, 5 of them. That should do me for at least ten sessions if each packet lasts two sessions. And I probably won't need them after that, unless I fall in love with being tan (which I will, but I can't succumb to that love).

Worship Me is my total fave it smells so good (well, all of the Designer Skin products smell really yummy!) and has quadruple bronzer...the Ray of Light was a bit too greasy for me, but it did its job just fine.

So...I'm confused..what exactly is it? Tinted moisturizer?

It's supposed to help you to achieve and keep a deeper darker tan...and it works. I am naturally fair skinned, but I maintain a dark tan...I've even had latin ladies envy me!

Okay, here's the link to Worship Me on the Designer Skin website:

i have the designer skin one for sensitive skin, 'sheer wisdom'. pretty nice stuff...

i'm all in two minds about sunbedding tho'... sometimes i love it, sometimes i hate it... so lots of money down the gurgler while i work out my own head.

    sigh.

andygirl, i reckon just get sprays... and wear your 30+ broad spectrum sunblock when you're down there.

unless you reeeeaally want to go to the dark side....

you could wear p20 once a day sunblock. it's clear and waterproof, you put it on 90 mins before you go into the sun, and it lasts all day. i didn't burn with this, and i have the palest skin ever (irish). It also lets you tan pretty well (i'm not sure how)

I got the Designer Skin Ray of Light samples, five of them. As soon as they get here I'll start testing them out. I have no idea where to go to tan, there are no salons near where I live. I'll have to make an actual effort.
