Cooking can be very dangerous when you're tired

So I get off work this morning both faminished and exhausted, and decide to whip up a plate of one of my favorite easy to make snacks. Pepperoni and melted American cheese on Triscuit crackers.

So I prepare a plate and stick it in the microwave for thirty seconds, then sit down at my computer, while hearing the microwave hum in the background, waiting for the beep when its finished...and waiting...and waiting...and still waiting

Damn those crackers are taking a long time

What's that crackling and popping noise?

    Ohhhh shit!

So in a panic, I shut off the microwave....about a minute and forty seconds into the 30 second cooking time. Apartently at some synapse between my index finger and my brain, "crackers" became "TV dinner" and I accidently added a zero to the cooking time.

Now I have to try and eat this petrified, ahem....whatever. Yep it all just sort of fused together like I welded it. On a brighter note, the pepperoni looks to have a crispy bacon like quality to it.

I'm sure I'll look back on this and laugh, as soon as I can get the smell of burnt cheese out of my apartment.

I think that looks quite tasty actually....well, without the triscuits anyway.

I burn cheese on purpose in the microwave...comes out tasting like Cheez-Its and I don't have to worry about the carbs.

So, did you eat it or not?

Well...next time the microwave is just too much to handle...how about some spray cheese..nice gooey goodness, no cooking required.

Ummmm...yeah, cooking can be dangerous when you're tired.

A long time ago, I was cooking some veggies in a pan. I sat down on the couch to wait for it (I had been up for 36 hours straight between work and helping a friend shop for bridal dresses and getting fitted for my bridesmaid dress)...to wake up to a house full of smoke (and smoke alarm going off) and a glowing red hot pan. The veggies were cooking for almost an hour. Needless to say the house smelled horrible, the pan was ruined, and the veggies were a little burnt black pile in the middle of the pan.

    Not good.

Heh, and our lesson of the day today? Doc and Mast shouldn't be allowed to play in the kitchen. But, in all seriousness, I've done that before too, and I still ate it lol.

On a serious note, some people have caused fatal house fires this way (cooking while tired...Falling asleep behind the wheel is a major cause of fatalities too)....Maybe it's better to just go to bed when you're tired. Or have a Powerbar, a V-8 or a cup of tea.

Yeah...cooking can be scary when you aren't really with it. My mom was diabetic, and while she wasn't tired, she was having an insulin reaction (low blood sugar) and decided to cook. She put a half eaten peach in a pan of water and put it in the microwave. Thank GOD she didn't start it...but seriously...cooking is not good if you're out of it.

    LMAO!

You know doc, I love that snack.. I have it frequently..

I've done some pretty crazy things while tired... my favorite is when I suddenly sat up in bed thinking I was late for work... ran into the bathroom jumped in the shower, turned on the radio and I was like, "Wait... where's my morning show? What the hell..." Yeah.. 2 am..... the kind of tired where you crash so hard you feel like you've been asleep for hours.... wake up in a panic thinking you are late and you realize that only two hours has passed...

Or the time, I did catch my kitchen on fire.... another story for another time.

LOL Doc, that looks nasty! Did you end up eating it, or did you just throw it away?

I loooooooooooove burnt cheese. I would've eaten it (well, if it didn't have pork on it).

I used to put a slice of cheese on a little plate in the microwave and nuke it until burnt, then peel it off the plate and eat it all crispy-chewy. Delicious. I haven't done that in awhile but now I might try it again!

A couple of years ago we had a guy here at the office (he's no longer a partner anymore) torch some chicken he was trying to reheat in the microwave, he was here after hours, set the microwave for 30 minutes rather than 3 and poof! Fire department came and eveything. And when the building manager and fire department questioned him about, he denied it. What a jerk off.

I can't seem to melt butter in the microwave to save my life. I use a small sauce pan on the stove. Less mess.

^^^ The best way to melt butter is to zap it for 15-20 seconds, take it out and swish it around (gently), and keep repeating that process until it's mostly melted. The rest will melt once you take it out and swish or stir it.

Cooking wilst drunk is also bad. I have such fond memories of the burns received while trying to roast almonds under the influence of cheap gin. Bad day.

^ Added to that...BBQ'ing while drunk is bad, too!! I had a friend who had a full head of hair (and eyebrows) that mysteriously disappeared when he lit the BBQ. "Tim, don't you think that's a little bit toooooo much lighter fluid?" "No, the more you use, the faster it gets hot..." Stumbles drunkenly over to the grill...big ball of fire here..."Tim, your hair and eyebrows are gone!!" Tim: "WTF?? How did that happen?"

Ok..ok...he didn't lose a full head of hair just the hair on the top/front part of his head. bwahahaha
