    Default Thrush?!?!

I just got a urinary tract infection and started antibiotics. Then, i had this weird painful sensation in the back of my tongue like i had burnt it. I look in the mirror and there is all this white sh** and it bleeds a bit if i scrape it. WTF!!

I have heard that antibiotics can cause a yeast infection and im wondering if this is thrush (candida of the mouth. i know, gross, but it happens).

Has anyone had any experience with this???

Thrush in the mouth isn't nice and I have not had it before, but if you don't treat it now it can look like this...

I have to say that sucks! And you can't just go out and get some Monistat for this...I'm sorry to hear about that. Let us know how you treat that, I've only ever heard of it in babies.

    Anyone can catch it....

To get rid of it you will have to take some tablets that your doctor prescribes.

Don't worry it will soon go, chin up

I don't have a clue. Go to some medical websites and make an appointment with your general doctor.

I have had thrush. And, more than likely you did not need antibiotics. When you have a viral infection, you should not be on anti biotics because... you WILL GET thrush as a side affect. Viruses do not require antibiotics, they require fluids.

You will need about 2 weeks of no sugar, no salt and mild mild foods... oatmeal, and apple juice work great.

I had thrush as a teenager after I was misdiagnosed for strep throat.... what I got in return was thrush and a very painful vaginal yeast infection...

Go get your monistat now, because in a few days (if you are still on antibiotics) you will be getting one down below...

In the meantime, you need to call your doctor and explain the situation.

    Feel better soon.

Most newborns are prone to thrush, it's not scarey, not a big deal. Not sure who told you about the herpes/german measles thing but they were dolts.

You can clear it with Gentian Violet, just beware, it stains everything bright purple. My kids all got thrush (breast milk is great growth medium) and I had bright purple nipples for awhile. Kind a fun in hindsight.

If you want to avoid the purple you can see your doc for treatment.

Anyhow, it's really no big deal so don't freak out.

Thanks for the input ladies..i will call my dr tommorrow. I did need the antibiotics though, i had a urinary tract infection, not a virus. I tried a couple days of cranberry extract and water but with dancing, late hours, not much sleep, my immune system was weakened..ive had them before and never gotten thrush from the meds.

Always read what the side-effects are before you take any medication so you know what could happen..

thanks ladies...went to the dr today and the white areas were gone but my tongue and throat were very swollen. She diagnosed it as an allergy to the antibiotic and gave me some zyrtec for the reaction. I have never been allergic to it before..funny how your body changes!!

I had a REALLY bad kidney infection once, and they put me on Cipro (which is the shit they use to treat ANTHRAX) and got a yeast infection AND thrush. The doc can prescribe something to get rid of it.

With the UTI .. did you also avoid certain foods and liquids as well as have a cup of water with a teaspoon of baking soda mixed in every hour ??? I find small simple little things like this not just cranberry juice (you sure it was pure cranberry as sugar is something you have to avoid when you have a UTI) and drinking ALOT of water (a glass every hour) works wonders.

also try to avoid acidic drinks and food, this will inflame your vagina whilst you pee, thus making it more painful! I remember my aunty had a UTI and she drank punch (an aussie drink with pineapple, orange, and other tropical juices with jelly or/and fruit peices in it) well she loved this drink, drunk wayy to much and cried after peeing

also... punch can contain alcohol but doesn't have to! more info --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punch_(drink)

Just thought I would add this as at the time it was funny as my gran warned her about it!

^what she said^ don't even bother looking at the gorcey store. i'll almost guarantee they don't have plain cranberry. i've looked. everything is "cranberry juice cocktail".

I took cranberry capsules...totally organic and potent.

Trust me ladies, i am in chiropractic school so i am all about holistic healthcare and using the bodies own defenses. But, there comes a time when your body can't fight it on its own. Having had a bladder infection get serious to the point of going to the ER when i was younger, i will always be more susceptible t o them, and get them full out.

I consulted with another doc who said that i indeed, have thrush and not an allergy. I had a horrible night at work tonight...my tongue is SOO EXCRUCIATINGLY painful..li think its because the first dr scraped the hell out of it "Examining" so now i have thrush and a huuge bald red spot where all the taste buds have been scraped off. I drank sugar free protein shakes all day to try to starve off the yeast because eating any kind of food is very painful.

Meanwhile, i go to work like this, and they said they would let me go early....then hours later they let lots of girls leave that didnt feel like working and im still there, till close.

sorry im having an awful night...starved, sick, in pain, and PISSED.
