hey if I wind up being the new owner, I guarantee that I'll issue citizenships / passports / bank accounts etc. with NO residency or international reporting requirements !!!
I'm moving there!! The government needs a treasurer right??![]()

LOL, I saw this on the msn homepage today and thought it was hilarious!! I thought it was a joke till I read it.
Hear ye hear ye, The council of the web of the strippers would like to decree Melonie as President!

^^^ that's also the reason that the sale price will probably be in excess of 8 figures ! A corporation president, famous entertainer or sports personality etc. could probably easily save that amount or more in legally avoided income taxes !
The concept is of course not new ... ...
but the fixed permanent location and independent nation status offers a huge plus in this case.
Again, the true point to be taken re Sealand is that gov'ts may SAY that they are going to heavily tax the 'rich' - but ultimately the 'rich' have the resources and opportunities to avoid actually having to pay a large share of those supposedly heavy taxes. Generally speaking, the 'rich' could probably achieve nearly as great of a tax savings via offshore banking + tax free bonds + tax favored investments (i.e. wind farm) as they could from maintaining a foreign residence in a 'tax haven'. This is particularly true for US expatriates, because the US gov't will continue to try and tax their 'foreign' earnings after they have left ... meaning that they could easily be arrested for tax evasion the minute they ever set foot on US soil again.

The article reads like a joke, but I have heard vaguely heard of it. I would think the weather would be pretty unpleasant. It isn't quite as impressive a tax haven as Sark I imagine ... but count me in!!!
Does the place need a Governmental Overall Director? The name can be shortened to G.O.D and I expect a position for life and to be installed with pomp and gravitas. Sounds reasonable to me.

This thing is real: I saw it multiple times... the last time, they tried to do a data haven.
Seems like at once point they actually won a court case that they weren't resident in the UK for tax purposes, so yeah, it would probably work. It's probably the closest thing to owning your own country that you can have, so I also expect that it'll go for a good amount. If I were a billionaire, I would be willing to pay into the low eight figures for it. Melonie would be finance minister, that's for sure :-).
Can I be countrywide party coordinator? Entertainment director? Head of the Ministry of Tourism?
If the weather sucks, we could build one of those bio-domes with a tropical ecosystem simulated indoors. It would be super-posh with all of those truly tax-free "muni" funds going into it, haha!
