    Default is this attainable? blonde!!!!

Ok... I have wanted to go blonde for a long while, but I want to do it right or not at all. I have pretty dark hair (pic 2) and I want to go very light (the paris pic). I feel like I just need a change! I have dyed my hair (not in almost a year!) and I permed it 18months ago, all at home. I'd get it lightened professionally, of course. I just want to know if that color is achievable, and what the stylist would need to do. Thanks! oh... I'm much more tanned now then in that pic, like the color in my siggy!

I went from near black hair to full-on blonde, over the course of about a year. I started with highlights here and there, then full highlights, then had the roots done. I'd suggest going in for heavy highlights first, and evaluating the results from there.

Even going so gradually, there was still damage. Aphogee treatments and Roux Porosity Control (both from Sally's) help a lot. I'd suggest doing the Porosity Control or a good deep conditioner before your first appointment.

If you dont want to fry your hair..it will take several sessions, but it can be done.

Everybody is going to tell you to do it in steps, but it's actually WORSE for your hair to keep overlapping with bleach. Shop around for a REALLY good stylist, because taking a natural brunette to a full-on blonde and making it LOOK GOOD is high maintenance, expensive, and technically complicated. Keep in mind that your hair will glow greenish under the blacklight. You are going to be shocked by the results.

I naturally have dark blonde hair, but because I have reddish tones in it, I cannot get to platinum blonde, no matter how much I bleach or tone. It took me a lot of money, time, damage and grief to figure it out. I now just get heavy highlights, I like the streaky, multi-dimensional look of it. Very French film star.

Bridget from "The Girls Next Door" is an example of good bleaching and high lighting, while Kendra and Holly are examples of bad bleach jobs. When your hair is platinum blonde you literally need to re-bleach your roots every 2-4 weeks, tops.

I do like the look of naturally dark haired girls with dark eyes, dark eye make up, platinum blonde hair, and dark roots. I don't know why, but I find it incredibly sexy.

I had a friend who had dark hair like yours and went to blonde. The maintence of her roots was crazy she had to go at least ever 3-4 weeks(remember your hair is darker at your roots). I have naturaly dark blonde hair and I dye it Paris Hiton blonde with highlights and I touch up the roots every 2-3 months. I would do it in stages, I know you want to go all blonde NOW. But it will save you from frying your hair! Make sure you go to an experinced colorist too. Trust me I have fried my hair before and I had to cut inches off. It suked.
I think that it will look cute! I love being blonde haha=)

My natural color is easily as dark as yours and I went blonde just fine. I agree with Viola, don't go in stages because each time you color your hair you will only damage it more. If you want to go blonde, just do it in one full sweep. It is possible to go from dark to blonde and still have healthy, shiny hair.

And since your skin is so pale, you'll want to invest in some bronzing powder to brighten your face. Otherwise the pale on pale will make you look washed out and like a ghost. Be ready to rethink the way you do your make-up because it will be a big change.

Good call on the bronzing powder, I think if you went to a paris blonde with your skin tone it would totally wash you out.. IMO and its only just that MY OPINION I think you would look totally hott with thick blonde highlights the chunky look would work wonders on you <3

Another word of advice: find a stylist who's got naturally dark hair and bleaches it blonde. I've found an un-naturally blonde stylist understands the process better than a brunette (no offense, anyone!) because they've been through the headaches of brassiness, damage, etc. Bleaching is COMPLICATED! You want silky, sexy blonde, not atomic cat piss yellow. It's REALLY easy to screw this up, but when a stylist knows what they're doing, it's fine.

Let me repeat - DO NOT GO IN STEPS, IT WILL ONLY CAUSE MORE DAMAGE THAN IS NECESSARY. Your hair is about a level 6, and you want a level 10, it's EASY to lift four shades in one sitting and tone it (1 is black, 10 is lightest blonde). TRUST ME. Look at my avatar! I'm blonde! Clairol Seventh Stage bleach can lift hair SEVEN SHADES in one sitting, I'm sure a good professional has you covered.

thanks everyone! I'm sold! I've started tanning (I'm waiting for my sunless tanner to dry right now, b/c I totally would look washed out.

Viola, you give great advice! I had though about going to a colorist who has dark hair but bleaches it, that just makes sense. I will do it all at once, I'm too impatient for anything else, lol!

I'm not too worried about maintenence or cost, it's worth it! You get what you pay for when it comes to personalized services.

I do like brown under, but I don't think I'll do that just yet, b/c my hair is so layered. Once it's longer, maybe! I hate the chunky highlight look, too fake, imo.

I'm so excited!!! I'll post pics once I get 'em

I'm by sarasota/tampa area. I'm sure I won't be able to find someone to do it for at least 2-3 weeks, b/c I have limited availability (w/ school!) and a great colorist would likely be booked
