Protein and healthy fats. Will keep blood sugar up and keep hunger away.

a handful of almonds and some cheese is a great high protein, filling snack. Things that take a while to eat are good.... like an apple or an orange (b/c you peel it and all). I love rice cakes for mindless munching!

oh, peanut butter on banana is great as well.

I love this book: it's geared for parents, but it's good for everyone! lots of healthy snacks and easy/packed meals, and since they're for kids everything tastes really great:
kids also tend to snack more then adults, so books made for them (or their parents) have lots of great advice

Chicken breast grilled and diced with some cheese (a small amount, like a string cheese stick) or some nuts, like a handful of almonds. Soy beans (frozen) are also good, you can pop them in the microwave and have a low cal high protein snack.

A spoonful of unrefined, virgin coconut oil will keep blood sugar level, and give you energy. Best part---your body cannot store this as fat--it burns it as energy. Google the health benefits of coconut oil. You can find good brands of virgin oil at health food stores.

A good idea to stop muching unhealthy foods for me is:

    I sit on stripperweb for 3 - 4 hours
I buy each week 10 - 15$ worth of health foods like dried fruits, nuts, apricot bites
I read everything that is new and this stops me from getting up and eating junk food...,

Of course, this method can minus stripper web and suppliment excersize

I do beleive that breakfast cereal is high in fibre + other things (I am by far a nutritionist sp?) however I am lead to beleive that eating cereal at the wrong time of the day may contribute to the difficulty of loosing weight. Dont quote me, but it is a breakfast cereal to start the day, not to use as a snack midday...

You could try switching your eating patterns to eat many smaller meals throughout the day instead of a few big ones. This is easier on your digestive system and keeps you feeling full and full of energy which would solve the problem of wanting to pig out in the afternoon. Just a thought.........

    also another idea/suggestion

Instead of eating 2 or 3 main meals in one day, maybe you can supplement it with several small healthy meals including for breakfast cereal, then later a snack of low fat yoghurt, then may a few hours later, a few crackers and cheese, then a few hours later something more... you get my drift.

This will also fit intio the humans natural eating pattern of 'grazing'.

Alternatively you can see a nutitionist!

Buy the Shangri La Diet on Amazon. It isn't really a diet- it's mainly about supplementing your diet with certain foods which really will make your appetite drop down. Worked for me.

I'm trying to force myself to have a cup of yogurt every afternoon around that time, because I always get hungry then too. I've gotten prone to yeast infections and I need calcium, so I know I should eat yogurt... but I don't really like it.

I manage to choke it down by promising myself a piece of real fruit afterward. I love fruit so this is a decent reward system, and a cup of yogurt with a piece of fruit is a nice and healthy snack.

Do you like other dairy foods or soy-based alternatives? If so, this seems to me to be nutritionally equivalent to eating yogurt and preferable to forcing down something you dislike.

If you think yogurt is the best option, try flavouring it with an all-fruit jam. I used to love it this way in my teens (I've since stopped eating dairy).

I love dairy, but AFAIK only yogurt has the acidopholus bacteria that prevents yeast infections. It's just a little cup a day and it's not THAT bad... I don't mind the taste so much as the texture. Small price to pay for health though, and I do feel so virtuous after I eat it.

^Someone on here recommended Keifer yogurt to me a while back... took some getting used to it but yum yum yum.

I TRY to pig out in the afternoons... it keeps me from doing it later in the evening when I can't burn it off.

Agreed. Lunch should be the biggest meal of the day. I feel best when I have a full breakfast, a little snack (like fruit), then a really big lunch, then another little snack, and then a very light dinner (like a sandwich or a small bowl of veggies and chicken or something like that). I find that if I have a light, early dinner, I wake up good and hungry for breakfast, which is a healthier time to eat.

Example, just because I had a good day (got up before dawn, went to the gym and worked out, then came home and pole danced for about half an hour before breakfast... heh, but I felt good!)...

    Breakfast -
    3 turkey sausage links
1 whole-wheat English muffin spread with roasted garlic hummus
    grapefruit juice

    Midmorning snack -
1 cup blueberry yogurt (fat free, no sugar added)
    1 small Fuji apple

    Lunch -
Grilled cheese sandwich (sharp cheddar on whole wheat bread)
    Big bowl of vegetable soup
    Tangerine

This afternoon for my snack, I'll probably have a piece of cheese. For dinner I'll grab a kosher hot dog and eat it with mustard and no bun, and another tangerine.

The trick is to eat when you're hungry, just make sure you eat healthy things and make sure you're hungry when your body will actually burn the calories. Eating a big dinner does nothing but store fat. If you're trying to burn fat, you have to get into the habit of eating more when you're active and less when you're not.
