Default how much? how do I go about finding a good "fat farm" ?

so I have an ailing family member who has some health issues that are impacted by their excessive weight. Fifty pounds minimum but I know they could stand to lose more.

I need a three month plus fat farm. Spa. whatever.

I'd like something on the west coast or something in the southwest. Is there an off season?

How much am I looking at? Is three months enough? Would it be more expedient to do lipo a few times and then to the spa to start practicing exercisizing again? Gastric bypass is not an option.

I think lipo would be a bad option. Really, lipo is best to get rid of those stubborn "trouble spots", you know, those places that still jiggle even when you've reached an ideal weight, do regular cardio and weight training, and eat clean.

If a major weight loss is necessary, I dont think lipo is a good option. It takes the weight off immediately, sure, but unless someone has good habits already, they just put the weight right back on...just in different places.

Lipo followed by the spa I dont think would be much better. They would have the immediate result of the lipo, followed by the close supervision and regulation of the spa...so when they were ont heir own, they wouldn't be able to moderate themselves (most likely).

I'd say a trainer and nutritionist are your best option, and after a few months of that, lipo as a last resort

My experience with health farms is that they cost about $1500-2000 a week (AUS, and this was in the late '90's) and focus very much on exercise throughout the day and clean eating. I found I lost 1-2kg (about 2.2-4.4lbs) per week, but I was not hugely overweight, so someone who is might lose more rapidly. It's an expensive option and it can, I found, be very difficult to take what you've learned into the real world, where it's not such a circumscribed environment. I think it's a good option for a kickstart if you need it, but in the long run your relative will need to learn to practice these things without that kind of intensive support. For long term weight loss, it might be a better option for her to visit a nutritionist regularly and perhaps make use of a personal trainer. These things will teach her to practice correct eating and exercise habits in her own environment, and much more cheaply too.

If you think that the restrictive environment of a health farm is absolutely necessary at this point, you might like start by researching the ones in your state and nearby states online, then calling them if you have more questions. I personally found a good one via word of mouth, so keep your ears open.

^ yup. I know the programs are super expensive. but they're stubborn and old and really not going to change their eating...I just want them to practice moderation.
Also-- I hope there's some sort of bulk rate for a few weeks. I want several weeks clumped together because their health is so poor it's going to take a little while to get those old bones to a point where they'd be able to exercise to the best of their ability. Luckily, they're semi-retired, so I don't think their personal schedule is going to be an issue...though I have to figure out if the spouse would go as well or if it should just be the one person.

Have you ever thought of hiring a personal trainer to come and workout with your relative in their house? That way, your relative wouldn't have to leave the house, and can't "run away" from working out. You could also hire a nutritionist/dietician to help with a grocery list/diet plan. Im pretty positive that will be alot more cheaper than a fat camp.

Lipo would do nothing for you. You have to loose the weight first and then think about the skin that might need tightened. Don't put the cart before the horse.

Have you discussed this idea with them? If they are too old and stubborn to do things at home then why would they be happy about you 'shipping them off to the fat farm'? I think it would be beneficial to someone who wants to be there but forcing them to go would be a waste of your money because once they get out they will go back to their old habits.

I think having someone come into their home to help them would be good. They could focus on small changes at first and how it fits into their current lifestyle.

If you are a dancer I doubt you need a fat farm, That is for 400 pounders, not dancers who want to loose stubborn weight or what not.

People always ask me, did I ever learn anything when I was a stripper? Yeah, I did. One man plus two beers equals 20 dollars.
