    Default Bleeding Heart...

Yep.. That's me. At least that's what my Husband called me....

I went outside a bit ago for a ciggy, and on my street, there are 2 dead squirrels within 5 feet of eachother. It's weird too, because it doesn't look like they'd been hit by cars (initially, that is).

Anyway, does anyone know if animal control will take them out of the road if I call? I'd do it myself, but I don't have anything to move them with. And I hate the thought of them getting run over again and again (That's where my Hubby got the "Bleeding Heart" crap from)

Maybe I should get a guy neighbor to do it? I don't know.

Yea, I'm pretty positive that they will come and take the carcass away. Don't do it yourself..

Dang, Rhia's house is a like a New England street brawl...LOL Just kidding hon.

Yes, if you tell Animal Control you are fearful that the squirrels can pose a threat of infectious disease, they will come out & dispose of them.

Tell them you have young children who play outside too, and you dont want them touching them. Honestly I'd try a neighbor first though, since who knows how long it may take them to come out. I'd just grab a shovel, myself. We have a small squirrel army around our house, and one gets smooshed once every couple of weeks. Right across from my house is a stand of trees and a creek where a lot of the neighborhood folks walk their dogs, and more than once I've seen someone struggling with a leash to keep their pup from tasting some fresh squirrel roadkill.

I'm gonna run out and check if they're still there in a few. It's sad because people keep just running them over. No one will just stop and move them at least to the side of the road. My Mailman usually comes around between 2 and 3, so I'll check with him and see if there's anything he can do.

What you do is you call and tell them that it looks like they may have had some disease...that will get them out there really fast...instead of whenever they feel like it.

Yep..animal control should take care of it....you dont have a shovel or somethgin that you can use to move them without touching?

on a slightly separate note..why a GUY neighbor? Not all chicks are squeemish...I deal with any dead critters found around here...hubby gets the heebie jeebies...

I don't know about AC, unless there is a rabies alert. Road kill is very common, and sooner or later the crows and other predator birds move in to clean up our streets. That may very well be the response from AC about a squirrel or two , it's common to see them dead in the roads.

Ask your mailman...i am sure he will pull them off the road.

I went outside when I heard the Mailman. He had already moved the squirrels off to the side of the road by the time I got out there. So I thanked him, and he said "The only good squirrels are dead squirrels" LOL

At least he moved them, anyway. Heh.

Nothing against women with me wanting to ask a Guy neighbor... But I don't like very many women, so... And I'm more than capable of pushing something off to the side of the road myself, but I didn't have a shovel, and I would've felt really bad if I just pushed them to the side with my shoe.
