OK guys the good news is, I've been searching for a new day job and I got hired at one today! Yay!!! It is at an office doing similar work to what I am doing now, but with higher pay, more hours, and a benefits package. The thing that sucks though, is that it is an hour away(as opposed to being 20mins away, like my current job). I'm still interviewing for day jobs on Thurs and Friday, but I am going to accept the job offer and if I find something that is permanent and a better deal, then I can always turn down the job offer at a later time(jobs have "used" me before, why can't I do the same?).
So the last couple of days jobsearching has been very good. I've actually gotten callbacks concerning my resume within an hour after e-mailing my resume in!Plus, the jobs that are calling me are offering more money than the (rare few) jobs that called me back in the past. I'm finally starting to have better luck with job apps. But what has changed? Is it my personality, or my IQ? Is it any new office skills/certifications(other than learning to use ACT database, which isn't that hard)? Nope, the ONLY thing that has changed is that now, I have relevant administrative work experience on my resume. LOL just as my breast implants have caused me to get a 10-fold more attention from guys, apparently my day job has caused me to get a 10-fold better reaction from employers! There's DEFINITELY been a big change in the responses I've been getting to my resume, ever since I added my recent day job to it. Hooray!
I've always found jobsearching to parallel dating in many ways(e.g., it's all about confidence, selling yourself, you usually find what you want when you're not looking, etc), and this is yet another. Just as some guys care more about boobs than personality, it seems that employers value your experience more than your work ethic and/or good intentions. Interesting.
But anyways, I'm really glad that I'm finally making some headway here. Provided that everything with the new day job offer works out, and provided that I make money bartending and/or cocktail waitressing as a second job(see thread on cocktail waitressing), do you realize that this will be THE first time that I'll be able to adequately support my ass without having to strip? Not that there's anything wrong with dancing...but after doing it for a few years, I realized it wasn't "me"...and I've always wanted to prove to myself that I could make it in the job world(since I never seemed to make it before).
Now here's another thing...again it's not saying much, but maybe for me it is...provided that I take this day job, do you realize that this will be the first time an employer will be investing more than $10/hr in me? Sad, I know...especially for someone who holds a B.A. in math with a decently good GPA(geez, can you see why I had to get into dancing in the first place just to survive???). But I'll be honest, the ONLY times that I made $10/hr or more, was at under-the-table tutoring jobs(not a taxable "official" job), independent contractor jobs(like dancing) where the employer himself didn't pay me anything, or tipped jobs(such as serving, where I make the bulk of my money from tips as opposed to the employer paying me). So no employer ever wanted to invest even as much as $10/hr in me.Sad I know, so I'm glad that things are getting better. Hopefully I can take the new job, succeed, move up, and keep moving up. I sure hope so!
