We rarely have much trouble at all in my new club (well, 5 months now), especially considering most of our business is tourists in varying levels of intoxication, generally pretty high. You know how tourists can be--they aren't at home so they think there's no rules. We also get a lot of service guys, whom we always let in free.
But I'd never seen anyone get punched, the worst was when one guy started fighting, got taken down wrestling style, then escorted out. A few guys grabbed by the neck and hauled out, etc. Until tonight...
So tonight there were these 7-8 guys in training to be SEALs. One of them grabbed one of the bouncer's girlfriend's (not a dancer) ass on the way out. He didn't see, but she chased the guy out the door. A friend of theirs was a gentleman and went out with her, they started arguing with the guys. The bouncer hears there's a problem with his girl and these guys and runs out the door.
All I knew is, three people I knew ran out the door in a row, looking mad. I didn't knoiw who was mad at who, or why, or even that there were other guys involved.
So I go to the door (right next to the DJ booth) to see what the hell's going on, in time to see a huge pushing match out there. One of the other bouncers says "Watch the money!!" (in the little stand by the door, several hundred dollars, easy--someone has to watch this no matter what's going down), and runs out there.
The next thing I know, the first bouncer is down with two guys beating the shit out of him. The guy friend, the girlfriend, and the second bouncer are lost in a mass of pushing bodies close by.
Fuck the money, I went and grabbed the worst one and yanked him off. He gets pissed at me.
But I can't fight much, I have to watch the money, plus as a DJ your overriding obsession is to avoid dead space or leaving the girls onstage and the crowd hanging. The show goes on at all costs, if everyone thinks a fight is stopping the show, the DJ is in trouble, lol! So I'm doubly stressing. Plus there's another bouncer far inside the club who has no clue--if I can get him out the odds are way the fuck better.
Then I turn around at more noise and the other bouncer has 3-4 guys on him! One of the waitresses is screaming at me to call the cops.
The truth of the matter is, I have no idea how much I helped the guy, I did something I know--it got very confused, but then there were three guys that wanted to fight with me, too. I went back for the door fighting off the one following me fairly easily--but I was retreating. We needed the other bouncer, and I wasn't going to take on three guys with the music about to end, lol.
More people came from another section of the club, thank god, and by the time the other bouncer got out there the situation was well in hand--or at least the guys were starting to retreat now.
They later got turned over to Navy cops, and supposedly they will be dropped from SEAL training now.
The poor guy that I definitel helped had a badly bruised and battered forehead.
The funny thing about the whole situation is, no one saw me do anything, I got no credit, and actually had the senior bouncer try to correct me for fucking up (I should have called him on the mike before doing anything at all--true enough, but how did I know there were 8 guys ready to brawl out there?)
Not that I need credit, it was just funny to say, 'yeah, I yanked that one guy right off you, thank god', and get a blank stare, lol. Later someone asked him how he got them off, and he said "I just fought them off me, I guess".
Don't think I'm bragging--except that we all were lucky we didn't get the shit kicked out of us, lol--these guys were in good shape. I'm still trying to remember what I did with the second bouncer, and I want to watch it in the camera, if they'll let me--to see if it was good or I was relatively ineffectual, I really don't remember.
