Default Phone issues.... oy yea Mast!!

Ok so I have a cell phone that won't dial out. Sim does not work in either of my old phones, but if you put it in a new one it works. T-Mobile has activated, de-activated, etc. Nothing can be done for expect for changing phones.

Now this happened on another phone of mine... no resolution same circumstances.

Mast are they f'ing with my phone so I am forced into a new one, or am I just paranoid? Is there some code I can use to get my outgoing calls to work again? All I receive is a beep, sort of like a line engaged signal. Text messages and receiving phone and text work fine. There are no current service faults in my area.

I don't want to lose my 25 dollars worth of credit.

If anyone can help please do so. I just know Mast knows a good deal about phones. Thanks as always.

First I will need to know what the make and model of the phone is as well as the types of phones you tried them in.

If I understand this correctly, your outgoing calls do not work on your primary phone. How about incoming? Data services working is no big surprise since that's an entirely different type of information.

This happened to me in FL once (remember Frustrated Bunny?) Her and I chilled in my hotel while I literally RIPPED mine apart only to find out that I had going on, turns out that I had burned out it's ability to pick up new towers since it was switching between roaming and not while in the aircraft. (bug in my old software phone)

So list off your phones and what services work with em, I'll try to see what I can do..

Typically, even though the phone is gsm, your sim could be locked to the phone, and with t-mobile you need to call them and give them the EIN of the phones you'll use your sim in so they can match em up in their system so if they match up sim to ein, they know your sim wasn't stolen.

One is an old disused Motorola V60 (the phone on the floor in Saw haha) As I have not used it in 2 months it no longer works without being plugged in. This is a 'very' old phone. The other phone is a Nokia 7250I.

I'm willing to say the V60 is a lost cause, and the reception is so shit in my area on it I have to walk two blocks to get it to work. It worked for about 2 months then did the no outgoing phone calls thing.

The Nokia 7250I was used for the past 4 months without issue until last week. Decent reception etc.

Both of these phones are unlocked and they are tribands from Australia, I've used them on many Australian carries (Optus, Telstra, Virgin, and Dodo) with no issues.

The phone that was tried was one of those new Samsung models and it worked just fine.

I know they can pickup T-Mobile Cingular signals in the area. At one point I had to adjust the band to the one being used out here.

I've never been able to get the WAP/Internet stuff to work out here.

PM me if you need specific location details etc.

Also I'm on the T-Mobile to go service. I purchased simcards through USTronics, and put them in phones that had already been unlocked.

    Thanks again Mast!

PS the 7250i is type nhl-4jx if that helps

ok bro, you're saying Your Nokia 7250I is your PRIMARY phone which works all except incoming calls. Was it purchased in the US?
Or was it bought offline unlocked?
Have you talked to T-MOBLE to register the EIN with them? (they're good about it)

    Lets forget the V60.

What did you try in the samsung? was it in a T-MOBILE store? Did a rep try it?

Basically, my assumption is that your phone is set to disabled on their end except 911. And if this is pre-paid, I'm not 100% sure if it's different, but I would assume that your sim card would be directly accessed a lot more often to check usage minutes, I'm speculating here with prepaid.

I would say if a samsung in the store works, and you brought that phone's EIN isn't registered to T-MOBILE since it's pre-paid they might be bigger dicks about it.

Or your phone just broke which is ENTIRELY POSSIBLE.

The phone is Australian. I do not think it was ever locked. Australian companies want your business. I'm sure they'd love to lock you in, but they much prefer stealing everyone away, so you don't see some of the BS you would here.

Do you think buying one of those prepay kits from t-mobile and then unlocking to use my current t-mobile sim would work, or am I sol?

Shouldn't they have told me when I called that the phone was disabled?

That depends on who you're talking to and if you're asking the right questions.

So where did this samsung come from?

^ T-Mobile shop in the mall. Just told them I was trying to see if my phone was stuffed up, and that I was using t-mobile to go.

I'd love to try another phone in the house but I'm sure it is locked.

Hmm, I'm thinking your 7250 Broke.

Tell, does it show bars till you hit the green phone? Then do the bars disappear?

I'm only getting 2-3 bars of reception, but they do not disappear when I dial out.

it just never connects huh? It's on their end then. You want to know who's at fault? Have them send a signal test to your phone. That signal test is designed to get your software information/ein and applicable firmware. If they can do that, then your phone is 100% capable of making and receiving calls and that EIN is slapped on their network

Now, another thing comes to mind, there recently was a requirement for activated phones to have built in locating services (denoted on Motorola's as a little crosshairs ICON) I KNOW this is on verizon and if your phone couldn't accept the update via key code... then your phone was disabled form making/receiving calls. You might want to check that out.

Thanks Mast. I'll call them for a signal test soon.

The built in locating services may well be what is missing. Both phones are old enough to not have that feature. Still 2 months on one and 4 on the other. I'll have to get that signal test.

    Anything else?

Oh and if I need a cheap unlocked phone, do you have any suggestions. I don't want these bastards to get my remaining balance for nothing.

Nothing really, I'd suggest go for functionality first. Having an unlocked phone is a great idea and such, but really? You'll prolly switch out of it by the time you're ready to switch services. At least that's my experience. Unless you currently need to switch between services

Budgetary requirements call for a monthly charge of <$$ dollars, no more, unless its an emergency. So pretty much any contract is too expensive. Most want $$ dollars a month... this coming from a guy that used to have bills in excess of $Aud$$$ per month
