^ eh. there's a lot more too it. my short nailed low maintenance self can make 2 to 3 times as much as girls (just as attractive physicaly) who spend 4 hours getting ready each day.
of course, i -do- try to "look my best" at work. i wear make-up, i do my hair, i keep my skin healthy, i'm fit, etc. i just don't put as much effort into the little details as others do.

^ yeah, but i think the original post was basicaly asking does it "really" matter, meaning in the "overall sell" and i was just supporting my opinion that it doesn't "really".
I think what we have here is a simple equation: things guys will overlook in proportion to how attractive he finds her.
Like, if a guy finds the things about a girl that are out of her control very attractive (bone structure, coloring, etc) he's pretty likely to overlook little things in her control (manicure). But if a guy only finds a girl marginally attractive, he's pretty likely to be critical.
I think in general, no matter how attractive you are, you should be on top of the things that are in your control. They add up! But then again, I'm a micro-manager control freak.
mine are short (i have a horse) but both nails and tonails are ALWAYS unchipped and painted.
i cant stand to see a girl with chipped polish. it takes what one min. to remove it.
i once asked a girl if she wanted me to bring in some polish remover for her the next night.... lol, i knew her fairly well and she didnt get to pissed off but the next night no more chips.
of course guys notice. doesnt mean you have to have "dragon nails" just neat and painted please

i have actually posed this question to customers. they all say they notice, but they may choose to overlook atrocious nails if they find the girl attractive. however, i have to agree, get them manicured so that someone takes off the dead skin beside your fingernails etc, but tell the manicurist to keep them very short. if you go 1x a week or 1x every other week your nails will actually be stronger and not break as easily because you are taking care of them. and that way you don't have to do them yourself (which I, like Tart, loathe).
Love it!
imp chipped nails are so tacky. if you can't keep them well done, keep them clear.
i hate the black chips the worst! but black nail polish in general is fucked up!

i have never gotten any comments from customers. i bite my nails horribly... and even worse- I think having long fake nails would make me feel FAKE. I have never had long nails, never worn nail polish, I dont want to, don't intend to, and would feel very self-conscious if i did. I wouldn't know the first step in nail-care. I don't choose to spend my time learning, either. If a man wants an ultra-womanly glamorous woman, I'm already out, because I'm the only short-haired girl on dayshift, even though I primp and do my make-up and wear cute stuff and blah blah blah in other ways. oh well.
In my club most of my $$ comes from regulars (it's small and dayshift) and a regular is a person who connects with your personality, your style of dancing, what you talk about, etc. Today almost all of my conversation revolved around motorcycles. Yes, I totally scope out biker-targets, because I know I can talk to them. Did they even notice I didn't have nails, if they already smell like engine oil and clutch fluid? I dunno, but they certainly didn't seem to CARE, and that's good enough for me.
I had acrilics on for a month but now I'm going back to school (medical assisting) and I have to keep my nails short and clean...
No one ever notices, I usually have my hands on thier lap and during dances I think the custy is looking at other stuff....
Also acrylic nails arnt that cool.... A lot of guys like girls who have real hair and nails.... you know?
I believe that it is all in the details. I've had countless compliments on my fingernails, toenails (and feet, shave off that dead skin and soften those puppies up, people notice that nastiness), eyebrows, lipstick (because I wear bright red), my hair, how soft my skin is, etc.
No one is commenting on it, but that doesn't mean they don't notice it, or it may mean they don't notice the girl at all. We have some plain jane's that could be gorgeous if they'd just step it up a little, but instead they get overlooked time and again. And then they wonder why I have a lockerfull of cash and they haven't made $200.
It is the total package that sells me, head to toe, never underestimate the power of the "little" things.

Also, I would never wear fake nails. I only do my own natural ones, and hair/nail vitamins help them grow and grow.

I ride horses and have the same problem with nails...they just get in my way if they're long. I keep them short, buffed, filed and top-coated. I use Mary Kay Satin Hands (GREAT stuff) every 3-4 days, which keeps my cuticles kept and my hands soft and silky. I have had a couple of guys comment on how short my nails are or ask why I don't wear nail polish, but I just tell them about the horseback riding and their attention is diverted to that. I don't think I've ever had anyone reject me based on my nails. As long as you look put together I don't think it really matters. There might be a few guys that feel you don't fit the "stripper" look...but eff em. I don't think it cuts into my money. And that's what matters, right?

I think that it does matter most of the time. But if you participate in another activity that makes it impossible to get nails, then it's ok. For example, I play rugby and only wear acrylics during the off-season.
However, if you are just too lazy to make yourself look like the "fantasy girl", don't complain when you don't bank like the rest of us.![]()

I definitely feel less confident when my nails aren't manicured because I do use my hands during dancing, so I think I make less money that way. But I don't think the custies really care about nails, though.
There is a world of difference between a girl who does nothing about her appearance...and one who tans, moisturizes, exfoliates, sands down calluses, wears gorgeous makeup and outfits that are eye-catching, clean and flattering for her body and sparkly well-placed jewelry, works out and is in good shape, wears a delicious scent, always has hair looking shiny, trimmed, styled and with fresh colour, doesn't wear ratty or falling-apart shoes, and has nails that are clean, neat...and short/ unpainted.
I'm not talking about girls who just can't be arsed to do anything special with their appearance for work. (I don't even HAVE to ask about that...all I have to do is marvel at some girls who look like they just got out of bed, are wearing no makeup and cheap worn-out clothes, and are heading to VIP for the fifth time that nightHappens all the time here...and actually makes me wonder sometimes why the hell I spend so much time and $ to glam myself up!). I'm posing the question that if all those other areas are more than "taken care of"...how much does that one thing matter on its own.

Just re-horses and nails...Maybe it's cuz I come from snobby hoity-toity dressage roots, but horse ladies actually are the ones who first got me into fake nails. They're all about the gel. Not too long of course, but definitely 'done'. And fake tans, and anorexia. I don't quite see where the nails would get in the way, except for grooming? But they never bothered me. I found them way stronger than real nails, actually. Even when I was a mucker. They bothered me more for contact lenses and typing, actually, but both of those were fine once I got used to them.
Just my two cents. My nails are naked now, and I make the same money. I dunno. I just got lazy with school. I hate how the fakes glow in the blacklights. It's hard to find a nail lady who can do them without the glow, even when I specifically ask.

hmm let me re-phrase... I take damn good care of myself- usually have at least a four-pack abdomen, wear outfits that complement my skin and body type, keep my hair looking as good as it can (growing out stage), bright and voluminous, and keep my make-up bringing out all my best features. The only thing I lag is IS my nails... and that is simply just too satisfying of a habit. If everything else is in order and I look/smell/feel/act? glamorous in other ways (jeez louise some days I curl my hair- little shirley temple ringlets all around....) I think I can let the nails slide.
Maybe it's just me, because I wasn't used to them. The one time I had fake nails they drove me crazy when I was grooming, tacking up and mucking stalls. I found them affecting the way I hold the reins, too. I might have been able to get used to them, but they only lasted a week before I got them removed. I hated them.

re horses. it's not just because i have a horse that my nails are short. i'm sure i could ride with them if i wanted to.
fake nails ruin your real nails. it took me years to recover from it. however, let me restate mine are always polished and nicely done
