I TOTALLY WANNA SEE IT!!!!! looks amazing... saw the trailer... post-fascist spain... the setting and the idea kinda reminded me of "La Belle et La Bete" (Beauty and the Beast) the orig. 1920's version- from the classical filmmaking angle. Well, La Belle et La Bete meets The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe! heehe Glad you liked it, thanks for the recommendation. I'll see it tomorrow or Tuesday/

For those who like imaginative films, I will also recommend Night at the Museum- innovative and hilarious- makes one feel like a little kid again. Ben Stiller's funny as Hell and Robin Williams as Teddy Roosevelt is great. Owen Wilson, Burt Reynolds... yeah. (sorry, not to threadjack.)

Saw it with my pals on Saturday. A good movie with some very strong performances (especially "The Captain").

But a note of caution: This film is NOT suitable for children or adults averse to graphic violence.

my SO and i saw it last night too, it was pretty good. he didn't like the movie because the fawn scared him (lol) but i thought it was great, in the end i felt like there was a definite commentary on how reality is what you make of it.

Definitely not for kids. I cringed when that guy got stabbed repeatedly in the face.

Otherwise it was good. I thought the lead girl did a wonderful job.

Saw it Friday night. Definitely worth seeing -- the movie plays its allegory right alongside the literal story of repression, and it works very well.

I don't understand why the graphic violence, though. Maybe Del Toro thought he needed to repeat his experience from Cronos or from Blade. It just doesn't work -- I think the movie would be stronger without it, and some of it isn't even all that good from an effects standpoint.

But a fine movie nonetheless. I noticed quite a few red eyes coming out of the theater.

That movie was powerful. I saw it last night and loved it.

It actually reminded me of a Studio Ghibli movie (Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, etc). In those movies, it's real people and real human reactions in difficult situations. Even if they have superpowers and fighting abilities, it's all about character development and overcoming emotional obstacles. Many of them are about children stuck in situations that aren't going to relate or react like adults. They rationalize and act differently.

I notice that many people describe it as "Not getting it." I think that's because we're Americans watching a European film. I once read that American films concentrate on plot, European films concentrate on character development, and Japanese films concentrate on atmosphere. I've found all three to be true.

I saw it finally! That eyes-in-hands monster scared me senseless. And that little girl is a great child actress, I thought.
