    tax question from aussie dancer

I started dancing in October and I figure I better declare my earnings and pay tax etc.

So basically my question is what do I do?
Do I just declare it on this july's tax return or do I get an ABN and do it like that? I really have no idea about this.

Another question is is it possible to declare earnings but not to disclose that I am dancing? I don't really want it recorded that that is where the money is from. A dancer from my work said that if I get an ABN I can just put down entertainer?

    Please help!!

    You will need an ABN

Best thing to do is call my accountant he is by far the best!

    Lloyd Martinez 03 9540 8081

You can either go to his office or he can come to your house! (I prefer him to come here)

He charged me a small amount considering what he needed to do (3 business tax returns + set up company account)

    you are an entertainer.

it's about the closest category the ATO has for dancers/strippers, models, singers... anyone remotely involved in 'professional showing off'.

You are under the Personal and Other Services Industry and as for specifics ... ENTERTAINER is what I have on my tax returns. Feel free to consult the FOR AUSTRALIANS thread for further information.

Plus I can't believe CF allowed you to dance WITHOUT an ABN. It is pretty much manditory to have these-days if you want to work at any decent club as they all were "looked over" by the ATO as recently as last year.

Heaps of dancers received letters saying to them "we know you work here so be legit about it" from the ATO (basically).
