Default Wearing a wig and dancing...

I recently lightened my dark brown hair blonde and it looks ok but its so dry and doesnt look very natural and im sick of it. Im really thinking about cutting it (its half way down my back) like a short bob, dying it back and letting it grow healthy and natural. In the mean time Im thinking about getting a human hair wig and I was wondering if anyone else here wears wigs if they are comfortable? Is there a way to have them stay put even doing pole tricks? I dont know much about wigs but I really need to do something about my hair.

I wear them sometimes. How will your hair be under the wig, will you just pull it on?

You can secure it with bobby pins. I use hair glue personally, a small amount keeps it in place then I use bond remover to get the glue out of my hair.

A girl I know works at a wig shop and she wears wigs while competing in pole dancing competitions - so it's hard core pole tricks, upside down stuff and her wig always stays in place.

I used to work with a girl that had a very 60's mod-type wig, and she used to take a pretty scarf and tie it on like a headband (where it would tie underneath, at the nape of her neck). It went with the 60's look she had, and it held the wig on whenever she flipped upside down on the pole.

I have a wig that most celebrity use. You have to buy a tape for it (that's really for the wig). You can dye it, you can curl and flat iron it. It's called indian remy hair. It's like 500 dollars but it's only 300 on ebay

I use Indian Remy hair also, It is a good choice. Some customers have hair fetish, and the like to touch your locks. The Indian Remy hair feels and look like your own.

Well, be glad I read this thread. I have been wearing wigs since Ias 14. I'm 25 now, and my mom has been wearing then all my life.

Human hair wigs are great, and most start at about 50 bucks if you know where to look.
You'll need 2 or 3 brushes for you wig.
One of those plastic prone like brushes. (I'm sure you already have one)
    a soft baby bush
and a hard brush with brisels.

You need two kinds of hair spray:
Wig Net Spray this is kinda like holding spray. You can use holding spray, but you want to go with a weaker holding spray than you would for hair. I sometimes use suave or rave. Spray it with this when the hair won't stay put.

Some kind of oil sheen. Nothing is worst to look at then a dry ass wig. makes me mad, I see this sometimes and I'm like spray your damn wig!
You want to hit it with the sheen once or twice a week about two weeks after you get it. If you happen to get a wig that has been sitting in the store for a while you'll want to spray it when you first get it.

After you use the sheen, use the baby brush.
The plastic bush is for tangles, these brushes damage wigs, but if you have a tangle use it.

Now for keeping it on your head when your on the pole.
You could buy that wig tape, but I wouldn't, and I don't want to get into it. My reply is long enough.

I corn row my hair, and use bobby pins. That might not be an option for you.
In the back of your wig there are two hooks. Don't buy a wig without these two tiny hooks, unless it is a head ban wig or a half cap. (nothing looks more like a wig than a head band wig. Stay away)

Back to these hooks. Take the hooks, and hook then to slots at the back of the wig. This is like the sizer on a base ball cap. They will make the wig tighter or looser. Some people tie these hooks together.

Your hair can be put in pig tails, or curly q's. If you buy a wig that is the same color as your hair, it's ok to let your hair hang out from under it, as long as it looks alright.

Put your wig on, and swing you hair as hard as you can. Bend down very quickly a few times, if it doesn't shift. It's tight enough.

You can also try a a half cap. This is half a wig. You put this on the crown of your head and then brush the front of your hair over it. This comes with combs to fasten it to your hair.

There are very nice wigs out there that aren't human hair, but don't buy Kanekalon, cheap ass nappy wigs they are.

When you wash your wig it, will never be the same again. So just be ready for it to smell like smoke DO NOT BLOW DRY YOUR WIG. And it doesn't have to be washed that often. You can honestly go 3 monthes or longer without washing it. Spray it with fabrese if you can't deal with the smoke smell.

If you buy a curly wig, and you do a lot of pole tricks, you will need to buy a new one at the end of the month. I don't know why, they just fuck up fast.

If I've left anything out, feel free to ask me And the best wig stores are in urban areas, well at least thats true in St. Louis. I've been to some of the "Higher" end wig stores in the "Nicer" areas of the city, and was like, "Wow, this crap is crappy."

I don't wear full wigs, but I always wear a hairpiece of some sort. The clip-on ponytail type is one you can feel secure with, but the partial wig hairpiece has to be secured tightly with the combs that are in it and with bobby pins. It usually feels pretty snug, but then, I don't do pole tricks or flip my head around.

You can get pieces and wigs for low low prices if you know where to go. If there are any Korean beauty supply stores in your area, make a visit. You'll be amazed at the variety of hair that is out there for you.

Most Wig Shops will left you try on the wig, and when you go sometimes there is some one there to help you. You asked if wigs are heavy, the answer is, some are, so try them on till you come to one that's comfortable. They feel like you are wearing a cloth headband. Not bad at all.

You said you're cutting your hair. If you cut it short enough then you can just pull in back into pigtails. And trhat should be fine. If you can braid it, you nead at least four cornrow braids, I do 12 but sometimes I don't have time for that, so 4 will work, not two, 4.

I forgot to mention that you can curl and flat iron a human hair wig, but that will shorten the life of said wig. Most wigs are not made from one hair donor, so the hair has different textures and stuff which will get tangle, and look just yuck.

remember you want bobby pins, not hair pins, and if you get a blond wig, buy blond not black bobby pins. although no one should be in the top of your head looking at hair pins, you never know.

I used to wear extentions when my hair was growing out from a bad dye job.

I don't need them anymore, THANK YOU WAL-MART HAIR PILLS!!!!

Anyway, they were cheap and easy to do, and stayed in quite a while, and stood up to the guys wanting to touch my hair, and doing pole tricks.

Are you dead set on a wig, or would you be willing to try the extentions?

^^^^ That's what I was thinking. If you get your hair cut in a "bob" to your chin or so, get extensions to your shoulders. Then you can keep them in all the time, not worry about you wig falling off or your head super-sweating. Just find someone that will sew them in, not glue them. That way it wont ruin your natural hair.
With all the stupid things guys will say, stay cool.

Then you're talking $300 or more rather than a $10-$50 wig.

oh no honey...DO NOT PUT EXTENTIONS IN YOUR HAIR....I've been using them for a while, and all they've done is make my hair shorter because of all the damage they've caused... the only way your hair won't be significantly damaged is if you take them out after a couple of months...and usually when you have them in you can't trim your ends because you'd be able to see the line where your hair ends and the extensions begin..so by the time your done your hair looks like straw and it'll look extremely thin..too much stress for the hair and it seems like your trying to avoid that... I wish I would've thought of using wigs before extensions. I think your better off dieing your hair back to your natural color, getting your ends trimmed at least once a month for healthy growth, and using lots of hair treatment. And you should look into Dominican hair salons in your area because for $20 they'll leave your hair looking gorgeous and you'll avoid all the heat damage from styling it yourself everyday cuz you won't have to. If you find one, tell them to wrap(they call it a doo-be) your hair and you can just pop any style of hair you want on when it's time to work..by the summer your hair should be long and pretty again..I still have my extensions in but I thought I'd share my game plan with you...

    Not true!

I only spent around $20 MAX for the stuff to do mine, but then again my hubby bear put my extentions in for me, lol!

But even if you do have to spend more for the extentions, it's worth the piece of mind that my hair isn't gunna go flying off when I spin around the pole, lol!

I have fine hair and found my wigs stayed on really well if I used a hairnet over my hair and then bobby pinned the shit out of the wig. (My hair was too short and fine to braid and the hairnet helped give it more to pin to.) For some reason, I found that my wig looked better on me if I took it off and put it on again if I got it on crooked instead shifting it around after it was on my head.

Also, bring extra bobby pins with you.

I don't know much about this, but on HSN I did see an interesting wig (really kind of a hairpiece/fall) it mixed w/your hair, had an open weave semi-cap, by Ken Paves a hairdresser & Jessica Simpson. Don't cut your hair!

I was thinking about extensions. I know a girl who glues hers in and her natural hair looks good. She says that she just uses the glue remover. I'm not sure if I want to do it or not. Does anyone else here glue theirs in?

I bought one, and it was horrible. It didn't fit right, was too big for my head and itched! I'd try one of her synthetic styles first to see if it works for you. You can then buy the human hair pieces if you like how they fit/feel. Some people like them. They just didn't work for me at all.
