This is not how I wanted to wake up this morning. I remember her when she was in her diapers, now her grave? This is a terrible day. I am really depressed.
A 21 y.o. male was having a party at his mothers house. It looks like criminal charges will be pressed.
Brittany Spears/ Paris Hilton are terrible role models for teenage girls. It's a bit off the topic but this is our role models? What the hell is wrong wih our society? I am just ranting..................

Unfortunatly, she is a scapegoat for every teen in America. This is not kosher. I hope this due gets criminal charges. The corners report will be done later on today. She tested positive for it in her system.
Her older sisters boyfriend is the cause of this. He gave her the controlled substance.

Controlled substance? Was there more than just alcohol involved? Or was she forced to drink as much as she did?
If not...they might get contributing to the deliquency of a minor, but not much more. If it was HER decision to drink, even though she was underage ....it's a grey area. Good luck.

Well Cameron, we are awaitng the corners inquest to see if their was more than alcohol invoved. From what my Dad told me that was the only thing that was present in her blood so far.
How much would you have to drink for it to kill you. Now we have all gotten trashed here, we work in bars, why has this not happened to any of us?
Does anyone have any insight upon this very disturbing topic? I really need to understand this.

It all depends on the person. Plus, most of us..once feeling drunk or vomiting will STOP drinking. I've seen people who do not however...they go throw up then keep drinking.

    I found this:
    How Much is Too Much?
Scientists use the term "lethal dose" (LD) to describe the dose (or in the case of alcohol, the concentration) that produces death in half the population (LD:50). Most authorities agree that blood alcohol concentrations in the 0.40 - 0.50% range meet the requirements for the LD:50. The blood alcohol concentration is the percentage of alcohol in the blood that results after alcohol is absorbed from the stomach into the blood supply. Obviously, studies of lethal dosage cannot be tested empirically in the laboratory, so the LD:50 for alcohol is estimated from post-mortem cases in which alcohol poisoning was found to be the primary cause of death. However, there are documented cases of fatal overdoses from alcohol at blood alcohol concentrations lower than 0.40%. To place this in perspective, a 100-pound woman or man who consumed 9-10 standard drinks, respectively, in less than an hour would be in the LD:50 range. A 200-pound man would have to consume about 5-6 drinks per hour for 4 hours to reach the LD:50. Although such high rates of consumption are atypical of most situations, participating in drinking "games" or club "initiations" often involves highly unregulated alcohol consumption. Impaired judgment from intoxication, coupled with large amounts of alcohol, is a potentially fatal combination.

That sounds about right. I drank hot sake last night and a shot of vodka and I ripped at 9:30 and had to go home to go to bed. And I wake up and get this news. I rarely drink since I haven't danced since August so I can get ripped fast as hell. I can only imagine her small frame gettting plastered of a bit of strong Gin.

I've only come across one person in my life who would throw up and then drink more... He had a serious problem and had been in the hospital for it many times... I'm wondering if your cousin either had NO idea about alcohol or if it were one of those "let's get her drunk" things.

Just so you know...if an underaged child dies at someone's house due to alcohol/drug overdose, it is the DA's decision to press criminal charges. It wouldn't "just" be delinquency of a minor...it could actually be criminal negligence charges...along with a host of other things. As with the whole "sex thing"...if you are not of legal age, you cannot make a "decision" to do something. In this case, if she was 16, the defense cannot be "well, it was her decision". Because in the eyes of the law...she could not legally make that decision.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Sophie.

Another thing is that we are adults, usually when we go out drinking, we are with other, (hopefully) responsible people, who will watch out for their friends. A bunch of young kids at a party probably saw her pass out, and figured she'd sleep it off.....Or they saw she was in trouble, but didnt want to call the police because they feared they would get in trouble, and hoped she would just sleep it off, or come out of it, they probably didnt realize until it was to late that she needed medical help.

Im very sorry for your loss. Its very tragic when young kids die for such stupid reasons.

Alcohol poisoning is NOT uncommon. My friend used to be a paramedic and he would see it all the time, same with all my friends who worked in the ER as nurses/residents/interns/docs. Now, a lot of people tend to get help before it becomes fatal, but people react so differently to alcohol, and others may not be experienced enough to know when you need to get medical attention. Also, combining alcohol with drugs can overtax the liver and make OD-ing more likely.

Sophie, I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

That is exactly what happened. She was sleeping on the couch. Her older sister comes in to change out of her work uniform and then the cops and paramedics were there.
Somethings got to give. Someone has to pay for this. She just turned 16 Dec 18th. A sophmore in highschool.
This is terrible. I am in shock on this wintery cold day. Words cannot describe how crappy I feel today.

Sophie, i am very sorry for your loss. It's hard to stomach it when someone dies suddenly, no matter the reason. it's intense and unfair, and you can't wrap your head around it immediately at all. it feels like a terrible dream, and i know that feeling all too well.. i hope criminal charges are pressed. Again I am very sorry to hear this tragic news.

    Love it!

Thats good to hear...I remember hearing a similar case somewhere where the adult got off on some crap technicallity..I dont remember all the details but somehow contributing to the deliquency was all they could charge him with.

Good to know that there is a possiblilty of real charges if someone did this to her.
Although..how many times have you (when you were barely legal) had an underage friend drinking themselves stupid with you...I know I did, and I'd hate to have been blamed for anything going wrong. It was def. my friends decisions to drink every time.I couldnt have stopped them if I wanted to...a cpl yrs older or not.
Hard to say about the adlt in question here, since I dont know the details of this particular case.

I imagine Manslaughter charges could be filed after the investagation is complete. What kind of peice of shit would give a kid alcohol then think^^ she was sleeping on the couch. Apparently, the boys mother was not at hoome when this party was going on. Samantha told her mother she was somewhere else. She wasn't suppose to be there. She was studying all weekend long at her Dad's house for a test on Monday morning. She went to her sisters boyfriends house and then she died. Everyone was notified Monday by 5:30 am.
She is going to be creamated.
Thank you for letting me discuss this very personal topic. I have like no one in NY to discuss it with other than my man.

Just to play devils advocate...is it possible he just thought she got drunk and passed out? Could HE have gotten drnk and passed out, therefore not having any idea what she was doing?

I'm not trying to defend him..like I said...just devils advocate.

It's more than slightly possible people just figured she was sleeping it off. I've been at a party where a girl got alcohol poisoning and people didn't know it until it was almost too late for her. We were lucky enough to have someone there who had medical training and kept her alive with mouth to mouth until an ambulance arrived. Might I add she was an adult, one who had drank in the past without issue.

She obviously bears responsibility for what happened too. It might be hard to accept and easier to look at the other party goers as bad horrid people but the truth is she lied to her mom and drank when she knew she shouldn't be.

ps - I have teenagers. I know how hard it is to know what they're doing all the time.

I don't have kids but I do know I was a risk taker of a kid, just like her. This BF was not an upstanding citzen to say the least. He has spent time in jail and is suppose to go back on felony charges.
I don't know what my little cousins are up to but it sure is not good. I obviously can't smack up her older sister yet but I sure have some questions for her.
I am sure they were all wasted. But at the time of her death her sister had just come home from work and she is only 18.
I am waiting for a call back from my father on the rest of the story.
It's scary.............. God Bless you all with teenagers out there. PLease tell them this story. It is important for other kids to know the dangers of disobeying their parents.
A lesson on flat out lying to your parents.
