    Default Night eating is Sabotaging ME

    So I go to bed around 5am wake up around 2 pm and try and eat something healthy around 3-330pm. Then i go to the gym and work my butt off with my personal trianer come home and eat a big salad with protein. And i really want to stop there and not eat anymore.
    But come 1 am I am starving and last night I totally binged (I started my period yesterday). I didn't eat anything terrible (Fat free cheese quasadilla and almonds and dried pinapple) But I woke up to sad numbers on the scale. (Up 2 pounds) My diet dr says eat carrot and celery sticks or fruit at night when i get hungry but its sooooo not what i want to eat and I am so much weaker at night then during the day. All i crave at night is carbs which is sooooo bad before bed. Any body else get late night munchies due to our hours? What do you eat that satisfies you without putting on weight?

    With all that training you are doing and then dancing all night, you arent getting in enough calories to keep you going. Try to eat 5-6 small meals every 3 hours. Like 1 egg, 2 egg whites and 1/2 cup oatmeal in the morning. next meal maybe a chicken sandwhich or salad with a peice of fruit. Then maybe 5 ounces of chicken or fish with 1/2 cup of rice and a small salad. Maybe for a snack make a protein shake with a banana in it. Also try to avoid the scale. Your weight fluctuates throughout the day. Does your trainer take your measurements and body fat? That is the best way to see if you are making improvements. Also your body is craving carbs because it NEEDS them. Carbs give you energy. I'm not saying to eat a lot of them but space out your meals and include some proten and a little carbs such as the examples I gave above. Good luck!

    bring healthy food to work and snack all night. I do it and people like to comment how I'm "always eating", but I never eat after work. I don't avoid carbs (infact, I eat a ton of them), but if I were carb watching, I'd have some vegetable soup or some other broth based soup. I make mine myself with Mrs Dash so there's no salt. Nuts satisfy too.

    Thank you Fit I know i need to eat more during the day it just seems really hard for me to get it down. Today for instance I've only had coffee so far and its 4:40pm (rest day from the gym and I work tonight) I know i need to force myself to eat soon i don't know why it is so hard to eat during the day for me because at night i'm famished!

    BTW i checked yesterday and since starting personal training in late november my body fat has dropped 2.5%.

    Good for you! I think the best thing to do is to plan ahead so your not searching for something at the last minute. I know its hard to get in the habit of eating more often, but eating 5-6 meal per day really helps with late night cravings.

    You don't want to eat anything carb-heavy before bed. Try a piece of cheese or a turkey rollup or something - you want a bit of protein and a little bit of fat, which will take you longer to digest and keep you feeling full while you sleep.

    I am a slave to midnight snacking! I have switched from eating crap like pizza bagel bites or potato chips to some thing like low fat crackers and cheese...with a cup of hot green tea(the hot liquid fills me up more so I dont eat as much)
    I HAVE to eat something before I go to bed because I take meds that make me extremely dizzy if I take on an empty stomache.

    I can't go to sleep if I'm hungry. If I am though I'll eat a little sliced turkey or a few pieces of dry cereal or something else small and it usually helps. You say you get hungry at 1am and go to bed at 5am? That's four hours before bed so it doesn't sound too bad to me. if you had a day job and woke up at 6am every day you might go to bed at 10pm and so that would be the same as eating at 6pm. Really though, I read recently that the whole not eating at night thing is a myth. Sorry I can't recall where I read it though.

    Ugh, I'm guilty too....I get home around 1:30 or 2 am and am starving! It takes all of my willpower to not sit down and start munching like crazy. I keep a stash of Fiber/protien bars and will have half of one, just so my tummy will let me sleep.

    I do snack at night especially when I'm at work, the house mom puts out a lot of food and so I can't help myself each time I go in the dressing room. Mom makes sandwiches or wraps ( cheese, turkey, mayonaise, tomato) there's always cookies, potato chips and sometimes fruits and raw vegetables. I think I will start to travel with protein bars and protein shakes with me to satisfy hunger/cravings. If only I can train myself to work without drinking alcohol which is hard each time I go to the private rooms because they push you to sell champagne.

    Cottage cheese is also a very good hunger-killer. It's got a ton of protein and amino acids.

    You're right about the cottage cheese. It does satisfy the hunger. When I was in the best shape of my life, I would eat it with a low carb tortilla or whole wheat crackers after work. I just remembered that when I read the last post.......Now I feel guilty about the lean cuisine I just ate ! I have to eat before bed or I just can't sleep.
