Is this normal for a tetanus shot?

I had a tetanus shot two days ago, in my upper left bicep. Since then it's been hurting worse and worse. You'd think it would get better with time, but it's just getting progressively MORE painful! The arm is pretty much useless to me; I can barely move it. My shirt brushing against it hurts. Tonight I went to take a bath and discovered a huge, swollen, bright red welt about an inch wide and three inches long.

The doctor told me it would be sore for a few days, but he didn't say it would get worse and worse, and he didn't say anything about a welt. Is this normal? Or is it infected or something?

Its not unheard of. If you google "tetanus adverse reactions" some simular sroties will come up. You might want to check out some of the vaccine awareness sites for more info.

These groups are usually helpful if you want to post a question.

Or you could look up more info on some of the vaccine awareness sites, these may be useful.

For my last tetanus shot, it hurt like a bitch for nearly a week, like someone hit it with a hammer. So, you're not alone there.

Try Motrin and a hot pack. The more you move your arm, the more blood flow will go to the site and help it heal.

Good. They usually ask what arm you use the most, then take the other arem..lol.

If it was very red with alot of pain that is a problem. But the pain is usually worse a day or two later. I hate them, but dealing with snakes i get a booster every 5 yrs.

Holy jeez, I got one a few days ago (got Tetanus, Diptheria, Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and dose 2 of Twinrix...hehe, was a little behind- I hate innoculations). MAN does it hurt!

I can barely lift either arm.

Mr doctor told me it was normal for tetanus shots to get more painful with time, before starting to ease off.

I'm due as well. The last time I had one, my arm was really stiff and painful for a week.

    I'm glad it's getting better.
