I saw it last night. It was freaking awesome! Original story, great acting, wonderful music. It was one of the most engrossing and complex films I saw in a while.
Timberlake was ok. My friend said he has no business in the film, and I could see a more experienced thespian in the role, but the star of the show was Ricci. Her body is spectacular. In an interview, she said she didn't diet for the role, just ate junk food so her skin would look bad. Yeah fucking right, she had nary an ounce of cellulite and those tee-tays...oh so perky.
The soundtrack was awesome, I think I am going to get it. Nothing like some passionate blues to raise the temp. Also, I really liked how cleverly the plot unrolled. Although there were certainly "Hollywood" elements, and I felt good walking out of the theatre, the characters were all painted with a grey brush. Except for one character, almost everyone was portrayed in gradient strokes, which is very important for me to appreciate a story.
I won't give away any more. See the movie! We even got the poster of Ricci in her panties afterwards.......hot!

I've been looking forward to this movie for over a YEAR. Seriously, it was over a year ago that I first worked on the camera tests, and I LOVE Craig Brewer's work, I love Sam Jackson and Christina Ricci...
*sigh*
This movie was TERRIBLE. I can't believe how bad it was. Jackson and Ricci were great. Timberlake SUCKED, and all the supporting cast was horrible except the young kid. The script was atrocious. The dialogue was stilted, the development capricious, the tone preachy, and it was founded on offensive stereotypes - obviously if a woman is promiscuous, she must have been molested and she must be "sick." Moreover, this movie said, women need a man to take over for them and make them okay. It's just taken as a given that Rae is fucked-up in the head because she (*gasp*) has sex with a BLACK MAN. *shock, swoon*
When I saw this movie, I understood why so many people didn't like "Hustle & Flow," though I loved it. "Black Snake Moan" was EXACTLY like "Hustle & Flow," but in the country. It had its moments, but overall it's one of the worst movies I've seen in years. I'm so disappointed. I really expected to love it... and now I just want to find Craig Brewer and slap him.
I really want to see it, I just did some researching on the net

...i thought the first half had potential but then it became disjointed in transforming Ricci's character. Like they were in a hurry to reach an ending.

Yep. I'm disappointed to report that I agree with it.Originally Posted by Alaska
I agree with that too. It was very sudden and for not much reason.Originally Posted by WiseGuy_TX
