Default I just found out I flunked my Gestational Diabetes test.

Yes, I already was on the low-carb diet. They ask me to start that a while ago, but my official test wasn't until last Friday. They were suprised that I was eating clean and still flunked it. Now I have to go in for the 3 hour test. ARGGGG!!!!!!!!

I also measured at 28 weeks at my last visit, which is 3 weeks ahead. GD causes large babies, so this shouldn't be shocking, but for some reason I am stunned.

Anybody else had to deal with this?? How bad was it? I don't know what I'm going to do if this baby is a lot larger than my son (he was 7lb 11oz), as I am tiny and my Dr. has already mentioned that they may have to take an overly large baby early to avoid complications.

I'm no expert, but I'll comment anyway. Most people are also afraid because it's a sign you will get diabetes later in life. My sister got diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and she got the little machine that tests your blood when you poke your skin. She kept her sugar in control during the pregnancy.

On a positive note, in the beginning when she ate a large meal her blood sugar would spike. After maintaining her blood sugar she could eat a large meal without getting a spike. Her body improved.

    It's not that uncommon.

When I was pregnant with Delia, I too flunked the 1-Hour-Test. Did they give you a "sample diet" to follow until your 3-Hour Re-Test date? It's nothing major, just some "good" foods to eat that aren't loaded with sugars.

I hated the 1-hour-test.. But I REALLY hated the 3-hour-test. The sitting the whole time bothered me, but I'm a BIG baby when it comes to needles. With the 3-hour test, you'll get your blood drawn every hour. You only have to drink the stuff before the first draw, though.

Did they tell you how much it was off by? With me, it was only a few points (literally), so the re-test came back normal, and there was no gestational diabetes.

So, don't panic. It may be just a point or two higher than they'd like it to be. They'll know for sure if it is indeed Gestational Diabetes after the re-test.

    Good luck to you!

I flunked my 1 hour test with one of my kids. I went in for a 3 hour and after that came back sketchy I went in AGAIN and had blood drawn 7 times... one as a baseline and then every half hour over three hours.

Turned out I didn't have GD so go figure.

I had huge babies without it (9lbs, 10lb, 9lbs) so I can't imagine what would have happened if I did have it! Oh and the kid I flunked the test with was the smallest lol.

First of all, size of belly is absolutely no indication of size of baby. They'd have to do an ultrasound. If you remember, I was measuring 36 inches at 30 weeks...but by the end of my pregnancy, the belly size and the "weeks" evened out. MOST people will measure big/small and then have everything even out at the end. So, I wouldn't worry about that too much. You should be having your ultrasound soon, and they'll measure baby, amnio, etc.

As for the test...MOST of the people I know have flunked the first test to pass the second. I only know of 2 people who actually had GD.

Just relax...flunking the first test is no big deal and there are a lot of factors behind it...like exactly what you ate that day, when you ate it, etc.

I hope that helps. Just relax...stress isn't good, either.

I'm curious as to why you were on a low-carb diet being pregnant in the first place. I don't think pregnancy is a good time to be dieting.

I was trying to regulate my blood sugar, not lose weight. I nearly passed out a couple of times. After eating I would get really dizzy, and start shaking and sweating (for an hour or two). When I called my OB (shitty ob, but that's another rant ) they told me they couldn't get me in for my GD test for several more weeks , so avoid sugar and go low-carb in the meantime. Since diabetes runs in my family I figured I should do as they advised.

I'm sorry - I misunderstood - not being at the point of this type of testing yet I dont know exactly how these things work. It's probably best to not eat a lot of sugar anyway. I hope everything goes well for you (both).

My mom lhad GD with my brother and he was 10 lbs 6 oz, and then had it with me and I was 9 lbs 8 oz. We were both 21 days late and my mom now has DM and has to take insulin everyday.

Granted she never took care of herself back in the day when she was pregnant with us.

Good luck, and take care of yourself!!
