    Default rhinoplasty

so im booked in for my nose job soon- stoked.

does anyone have any tips on what to do POSt surgery? after last times failed BA im scared ill fuck this one up too. im going to the best doc on the gold coast (apparently) and im sure they will give post op care and all that, but is there anything else i will need to know, or get ready to expect?

the only thing ive learnt so far is not to blow my nose afterwards for awhile, and not to wear sunglasses.

does arnica help with bruising from nose jobs?

I've heard that you're not supposed to smoke for a decent period before and after surgery. The nicotine intereres with healing.

Congrats on getting your nose done! I'm dying to have mine fixed (and my tits lifted/reduced).

no smoking should be fine -ive never smoked a cigg ever! wonder if second hand smoke would be just as bad in this case tho?

    thanks for that

Take a bag of frozen peas, and fill the peas into two latex gloves. They make an excellent icepack.

Take your painkillers and lie on your back. The bruises heal quickly on their own, in a week or so.

My nose job didn't hurt much, but I had black eyes for 3weeks...and I would try to avoid exposure of any kind to smoke. It slows the healing process.

Also I was told by a surgeon in melbourne to eliminate your intake of Garlic 1-2weeks before getting your surgey. I know it osunds crazy but i think it slows down the healing or thins the blood or something along those lines so just check up on that. I was also told to stop alcohol 2 weeks before surgery

Good for you and good luck!

Taking care of yourself at home
Be guided by your surgeon, but general suggestions include:

    * Make an appointment for a later check-up with your doctor after about one week.
    * If you have any medications to take home from hospital, be sure to ask what they are for, and how often and for how long you have to take them.
    * If you are ordered antibiotics, make sure you take the whole course.
    * Hold your head upright as much as you can.
    * Your bandages and packing gauze may be left in place for up to a week or so, and then your surgeon will remove the dressing and take out the nasal packs.
    * Follow all instructions on how to best keep your nose clean.
    * Avoid blowing your nose.
    * Contact your doctor if you have any sudden nose bleeds.
    * You may need to be off work for around two weeks.
    * Avoid contact sports (or any activities that could cause your nose to be knocked) for about six weeks.
    * Broken nasal bones may hurt or ache for up to eight weeks. See your doctor for advice on appropriate pain relief. Remember that aspirin can increase the risk of nose bleeds.

    thanks heaps girls

the garlic and not drinking one will definatly be one ill have to watch out for. two things i consume almost daily! lol

jaizaine- its costing a total of $7500 here on the coast at dr downies office, but i think i get some of that back thru medicare as i have a mangled devaited septum.most of which is why my nose looks bad in the first place! hah dont forget you will also need backup money for the down time from surgery. ive made my nose job cash. but still have to set aside money yet for 2-3 weeks off work.no biggie i guess downtime seems less then a boob job

Dr Downie! Hell yeh! You got a good one there Jess. My (late) mother lost a boob thanks to breast cancer and she visited him in regards to possibly getting that boob back (Breast Augmentation). She never went thru with it in the end however he is definately the best as that is who they (my parents) were referred to in re: "the best BA doc on the gold coast".

Why Rhinoplasty? What's wrong with your nose so much you need to do it?

You are doing pretty alright for someone who doesn't have Rhinoplasty. I'm a little confused as to your reasons. (I am not attacking you here - just curious)

VitaMedica has this great after-surgery pack with Arnica Montana 30X, Bromelain, AM and PM supplements. I used the kit after my chin/boobs and had a really easing recovery and no bruising. I'm definitely going to use it again when I get my cheeks/nose done.

I just did whatever my doctor told me and I did fine. I couldn't do any nose blowing (he referred to it as the "B" word) for a while. Had to avoid the sun for a while. I don't think I took pain meds for more than a day and I don't recall any pain. The surgery itself wiped me out for a while though and I sort of layed on the sofa for the first few days. I had exercises to do after the splint came off for a while which consisted of rubbing on the sides of my nose. I'm sure your doctor will give you a bunch of instructions.

vee- i have a mangled septum- deviated septum by medical standards- i can claim back that portiong of the surgers on medicare (yay) once the septum is fixed, i think my nose will compleatly change my face anyways, i dont care about lil bumps or anything on my bridge, it would just be great to breath out of both nostrals, and not have a visable septum.
