I read that article earlier today and thought about posting a link here. I personally think they should've put the parents and baby off the bus. From what I read on yahoo, the baby was crawling under her seat and the crew of the plane had been waiting quite some time trying to allow the parents to calm their child. Eventhough they got put off the plane, they were still reimbursed..

Yep, right you are, Cinnie. Also I think they got an additional 3 tix for anywhere Air Tran flies.

I have to say I feel a little bad saying so, but I think they should have been removed, too. From watching the way my four year old neice acts when she is with me sometimes, it's a reflection of her parents letting her get away with murder at home. Parents need to take responsibility for their children. A three year old is old enough to listen to her parents. I would have removed them..

I think the airline can't legally take off if people aren't secured, and that the bratty kid was holding everyone up, and that the parents should grow a pair.

OMG you know it! I was well-behaved, and I wasn't beaten or anything...

I hate how the parents wanted to take more time to "calm and console" the child. Like, wtf?! Discipline her ass!

About the ear surgery, that's pretty much irrelevant because nothing would be hurting extra since they hadn't yet taken off and reached higher pressure altitudes...

I think it was all right honestly. I've got three kids and I never put up with the tantrum shit, hence they very rarely had them because they knew it wouldn't work as far as helping them get thier way.

As for the ear surgery excuse... What jackass would take thier kid on a flight when they knew they had ear issues that'd most likely lead to pain/discomfort and a freaked out kid? Way to go shitty parents!

Just for the sake of argument, sometimes kids that age really do just freak out. What should they have done, hog-tied and gagged the kid? I agree that there are a lot of kids suffering from a lack of discipline, but I don't think it's fair to automatically blame the parents here.

I totally agree. I have been on too many flights with misbehaving children, and the parents don't seem to care. Once i saw this idiot of a woman giving her toddler coca cola (which is wrong in itself) as we were boarding a flight. The kid was bouncing off the walls and noisy as hell. Why do these people breed?

But, as a parent...freaked out or not, they should have told the kid to STFU, and STFD.

I am lucky to have a little one who loves to fly...and who is well-behaved and all.

But, the point that she was doing everything but what the parents were telling her to do (sit down, buckle up) and that they wanted more time to "console" her tells me, blaringly, that this kid doesn't take naps anymore, gets away with everything, and effectively cut off her parents "balls" when she was born.

I don't care if my child is sick, she KNOWS tantrums will succeed in getting her one thing: Punished.

To use the excuse, "she wasn't feeling well" is bullshit. That's just telling her that you can act like a brat/bitch when you say you don't feel well. I teach Makayla that no matter how she feels, it doesn't give her the freedom to disrespect/disobey...she can be a little whiney...and that's ok...but there's a line that cannot be crossed...

Good on the air crew who booted them. I have very little patience for bratty kids...and I probably would have gotten up and told the parents to get a hold of their child...and that I'm a paying passenger and don't appreciate the delay.

I honestly wish you could request flights with no babies or children - yes I would be willing to pay more.
I can put up with it domestic like for a couple of hours but I recently flew 22 hours to london and I needed my sleep and didn't appreciate the bratty kids and the crying babies.

On this flight some parents of a toddler caused trouble coz they refused to wake their toddler to strap him/her into their seatbelt coz they said he/she was having a tantrum and they didn't want to wake the child or it would start up again. The crew explained that it was a safety requirement to have the toddler on their knee and seatbelted instead of in the bed thing and the captain even came out and they still wouldn't listen.
I wanted to get up and smack them both in the mouth myself - this shit went on for over 30 mins.

Oh you know it! I must say that I am very good at giving "the look" Had I been on that plane, everyone would've been flying cause my "look" would've settled her ass down!

Good for the airline, though they shouldn't have gotten reimbursed tickets. Lazy parents.

The other day, as I was driving off in the pkg. lot of grocery store, here comes a woman approaching a crosswalk w/five kids, the oldest being around 5, chatting on a cellphone. Basically letting them walk in front of her. Get a clue, lady.

Good for you Venus, you are a great mom.

I noticed in Home Depot, around the lumbar aisles, they have large signs detailing how/why people should keep their kids in check.

Another thing, what is with the kids in stores with sneakers w/built in wheels, skating around the stores, that's totally necessary, right?

OMFG! At my retail job, we have kids who use those damn wheelies all the time. I tell them not to wheel while in the store and their parents always look at me like I have 2 heads. Some even ask why their children can't wheel in the store. Because they lose their balance and pull down racks of movies that I have to put back up, you moron!! That's WHY!

    Amen.

God, tranquilizer dart guns should be given to flight attendents, or at least quick-dissolving Valium that can be easily hidden in juice.

Recently on the news in Chicago, a couple of restaraunts in the fancy Lincoln Pk. area refused to serve ppl w/kids. Why? It seems the lil' ones were allowed to throw extreme tantrums, & worse, allowed to hang out/play by the kitchen's swinging doors.

It was right (no matter what the parents say)...they just don't want to seem like they didn't have control of their kid.

Not to mention the lawsuits when the kids get hurt.

Exactly, I don't know the whole story here, but it's possible that the child threw a horrid fit despite every effort on the part of her parents.

As the parent of an extremely difficult child (there's more to it than that, but just trust me) I sympathize with the parents. I remember travelling with my daughter at that age and it was a nightmare. There are children for whom strict parenting, discipline, "the look," etc. are not going to have any effect. Yes, it sucks for the other passengers, but try being the mom of a kid like that. It's not easy.

Yeah, I've often thought that they should have family cabins on planes, and then if there are extra seats in them on some flights they could sell cheaper tickets to those whom it doesn't bother.

That's a good idea! I'd pay to be away from that cacphony. I've thought that for apartments too. I don't EVER want to live with a family next door or upstairs. It works my nerves.

Hell yes. Same at my store. So very the same. Grrr... I hate those skate sneaker things. I especially hate them on kids who need to lose weight by walking. Oi....

But as for the original story here..... a screaming kid is one thing. And for that kid's age, it isn't like a pacifier was gonna do it... A kid crawling under the seats is a whole other thing. There is no excuse for that. If your child is so whacked out that you cant stop them from running around (and lord help me I dunno why one couldn't) then you shouldn't fly. Chalk it up as a loss for having a kid you cant control and drive your punk asses.
