    Default alcoholic brother

So my parents had my brother sent to the hospital for the third time and they're not letting him come back. He's an alcoholic and it got to the point where he would drink till he threw up, piss himself, wake up and get new clothes, then continue drinking.
We've been having so many problems with him, he's caused around $1200 worth of damage to the house(punching holes in the walls). He even locked himself out once and instead of asking for a key he took a hatchet and made a large hole in the door to our garage. He's 24 and hasn't had a job for a while.
I want to go visit him tommorrw but I don't know what to say. Only a few people know I went through an alcoholic/cokehead period myself. I never told my parents. It hurts so bad because he's such a smart person and he's just putting his life to waste. I wish it was me in his situation and I feel so guilty.*sob*

I'm sorry hon. (((HUGS))) I disowned my brother due to his blackout alcoholism, among other things. I miss him sometimes but he's dead to me now. He had enough chances to redeem himself & blew all of them..

IMO your brother won't even consider getting clean until he hits bottom...don't enable him, ever, anymore.

Don't feel guilty. He is responsible for his own actions...& responsible for not acting like an adult, which 24 years of age is an adult.

My sister has a chemical imbalance and it causes her to go on wild mood swings. She'll drink when she's down and do coke when she's up. It also causes her to make horrible impulsive choices.

I wish as a country we'd do more for people with mental problems...and that's exactly what alcoholism is.

I had an ex that was totally like that. Blackout drunk everynight, pissing himself, punching things, starting fights with everyone and still wouldnt stop drinking. He would drink til everything in the house was gone and then try to find more even though he obviously didnt need it. Later he began to show tendencies toward becoming physically abusive, and then he actually did! After that I left his ass...well I moved out first due to the extreme drinking and then I dumped him due to the violence on me! I figured he would have changed seeing as how that was over 3 years ago and he was only 21 and 22 at the time, but he hasnt. I talked to him once and he acted as if everything was under control, new girly and good job but it was all lies. Met up with his ex accidentally on myspace and we started chatting about him and their situation. Comes to find out he still drank excessively, and was actaully worse than when we broke up! She ended up breaking up with him after 2.5 years for the same reason, he got abusive to her as well...be careful girl is all I am saying. People arent going to change unless they want to, not because you want them to.
