Depends on the amount of time spent not home, to be honest.

Yeah if spend alot of your time away from home for long hours then I would not bother getting one. but if your out but not for long hours and have someone with you at home then yeah why not?!

Plus if you do decide to get one then please get one for an Animal Shelter or your local R.S.P.C.A them poor dogs

I wouldn't leave a puppy alone longer than 3-4 hrs. I feel guilty leaving my dog longer than 4 hrs and she's grown, although I have left her for much longer periods a handful of times and she was fine, I just feel so bad doing that. They need to be around people or outside playing or going for walks. Dogs are a big committment and a huge responsibility. Count out staying out all night, wkd trips, or just leaving early in the morning and returning late at night. My dog changed my life. I used to travel frequently, now it's quite an ordeal for me to either board the dog or find someone I trust to stay with her.

I have a small dog, I've had him for 6 years this year and he is awesome. I can take him more places with me than if I had a large dog. If you do decide to get a dog, no matter what the size, adopt one. There are some wonderful dogs out there that need a place to call home.

I am a dog person. I adopted a golden retriever a few years ago when I was in college, so I was going to school and dancing on the weekends. We always lived in apartments and I would get up at 7am to walk her everyday even if I didn't get home from work until 4am. Eventually my boyfriend adopted her because he had a house and a yard, and she liked him better anyway. I would love to have a dog again, but it is SO MUCH WORK when you're single and you have to be home at least once every 10 hours NO MATTER WHAT, and you have to give the dog exercise, even if its a little dog. I wouldn't do it again... hope this helps!!! Good luck!

It's like having a child, in lots of ways. My dog is my second kid, hegoes every where with me. Dog's get very sensetive if they don't get enough attention, and can wind up mis behaving, wich leads to big problems for you.

Make sure you have the time to spend with a pooch, and if you wont be home for long periods, then maybe have a friend you can leave the puppy with. Otherwise I would wait.

(have not read the above comments, i may repeat)

you can do it. you just have to give him/her attention when you are home, and not ignore them all the time. I have two small dogs and i care for them by myself. i can't spend nights away without getting someone to come and let them out/take them somewhere (my aunts watch them when i go away), but i don't mind. for some puppy love it's TOTALLY worth it.

    Love it!
