I think the Porsche SUV looks like it was beat with an ugly stick. But I guess the bottom line is...it is a Porsche.

^^^ as well as, IMHO at least, proof that there are a whole lot of people out there with way too much money and far too little brains (re Porsche's gigantic profit margin stemming from brand recognition, vs price to actual value ratio)
Small company, not ready for prime time, but local word is that they're contracted for electric trucks and SUV's to some government fleets:
I'm not up on the technology, but I suspect that capacitor technology will build as a favorite alternative to batteries. We'll see.

FBR: I do not own a n Escalade however I used to work in a shop that installed electronics in cars, for about 4 years, until about a year ago. I worked there when Escalades came out. We did a lot of work on Tahoes and Yukons as well, the only difference was the grill. The brackets we used for mounting custon installations on, Ipod docks, Cell phone handsfree kits etc. were the same for all three. The dash piece that comes off to expose the radio group were identical parts, in fact one day when we had one of each in the shop we tried trading the parts, they were an exact match, both fit and color.
I heard that later on you could get a Northstar V-8 in an Escalade, although I never saw that in any of them I worked on, but to begin with it had a regular GM Vortech engine, the same as the Tahoe and Yukon, I believe that is still the case for the standard engine package.
Maybe in the last year or two they have made big changes but from what I saw, except for a few details, the grill and a little badgeing on the inside an Escalade was just an expensive Tahoe.
Northstars have never been offered in Escalades because of the relative low torque/high RPM horsepower which works well in an STS but not so good in the Escalade due to its weight. My '05 has a traditional 6.0 liter OHV engine. The '07's have a 6.2 liter OHV 400 or so HP engine.
I agree that there is some badge sharing of parts. But Caddy has reserved the best for their brand in terms of suspension trickery and uplevel appointments. And, of course, there is the general suck up that the dealers give you. The other day, my windshield washer quit working. Dummy me didnt think about the fact that the outside temp was close to single digits. I dropped off the truck asking them to fix it. Later in the day they called saying the mechanicals were fine, it was just the weather freezing the lines. They thawed the lines out and said to me "Sorry you had a problem...have a great day". No charge.

Subaru is my favorite by far. Any of 3: Forester, Legacy wagon, or B9 Tribeca is a good, roomy, safe, dependable choice.
Toyota 4Runner's are also good.
My new Esc is in and I will be picking up Friday. After reading the posts here and many other comments on the site I am feeling guilty about raping our global resouces. When this lease is up in two years, I will seriously look at some sort of fuel stingy foreign crackerbox to drive.
