ugh. I haven't read it, and will stear clear of it now. Thanks for the avoidance warning!

**Note: the other thread was corrupted, so I had to move some posts around for this thread to reappear. It may seem a little "disjointed" but it's the best I can do.**

Here is the article being discussed: "No one Should Have to be a Stripper." --VG

I read it. I hate one sided articles like this. It wasn't for her and she got out, good for her. But what about the majority of women who do this and are ok? Why doesn't a majaor magazine focus on that?

This reminds me of tonight's episode of Intervention.

There was a bulimic girl who became a stripper so she'd have money to buy all her food that she would binge on. She hid it from her parents so they wouldn't be ashamed of her. Her father's reaction (when he was told about the stripping) was something along the lines of "wtfomg!!!!one!!!". He was calmer with the fact that his daughter had been a bulimic for over three years than with the idea of his daughter being a stripper (or at least it came off that way to me).

I bet that'll influence a lot of people's perception of the stripping industry. Well, the people that watched it anyway.

Did anyone else happen to see that episode...?

    -slowly trails off topic- Sorry.

They definately wouldn't print it. But if they did, I would read it.

Also--if they did print it they would have an article following it right after counteracting yours. It would have some story about suchandsuchanumber strippers are molested/raped/robbed/murdered each year. You know, just so the Christian fanbase wouldn't be upset.

I don't think I need to be saved. If she feels that she was a bad person for being a stripper, so be it. Just because she feels bad about the fact that she danced doesn't mean all strippers are miserable and too scared to quit dancing.

    Ugh, stereotyping.

I'd be upset if my real name was Harmony Star Dust, too.

EDIT: Read how fucked up her life already was. I don't think someone who came from that kind of environment should be making blanket statements like this.

Why would someone want a "normal" life? Normal is dull! Why do you think TV shows are as ridiculous as they are?

I pledge, here and now, to never have a normal life! XD

Harmony Dust knows how to talk to women with no self-esteem and nowhere to turn
    Argh, fuck that bitch.

Every single one of us needs to write a letter to the editor about this article. Seriously, even if you can only write something short, we need to let them know that we disagree with this shit and that it's an insult to hardworking women everywhere.

Ok, I just fired this one off:

I think it is appalling that you'd print a story about strippers and only present one very biased viewpoint. Harmony Star Dust might have had a negative experience with stripping, but that certainly does not mean she can speak for all of us.

FYI, I have a degree also, and after working for several years in a professional job I decided to go back to stripping because it is my dream job. I was never molested, I do not have a drug problem, and my self-esteem is very high. Believe it or not, many of us ENJOY our jobs and do not feel degraded by stripping. It gives women a chance to make excellent money while doing something fun and interesting. And it leaves moms with plenty of time to raise their kids, students plenty of time to go to class, and it gives us the financial independence that we might not be able to find elsewhere.

You can have pity on the woman working midnights in the drive-through or the ones digging ditches for minimum pay...they are the ones who are truly being exploited. Save your pity for them because strippers don't need it.

I have a degree in journalism and extensive experience as a writer. If you'd really like the other side of this story, I'd be glad to write it. Articles like this one do a huge disservice to women, and they are also insulting to the intelligent women who made a conscious decision to work in the sex industry. We are sick of the stereotypes!

EDIT: But I'm going to anyway, where are you sending them to?

I hate how a big part of her "getting out" was finding a husband, like she needs a man to support her.

What, are we abused children? Homeless people? ::rages::

EDIT: Thought I'd make this easy for ppl to write... http://www.glamour.com/contact/youSaidIt

I'm disgusted at your article, "No One Should Have To Be A Stripper". I have been an exotic dancer for about three years now. I come from a wonderful family and I'm a senior at a Cal State School. Your article was offensive and demeaning to women in the adult industry. You might be surprised at how many of your readers are exotic dancers.

Strippers are not all sad, struggling people. Many of would NOT cry because someone gave us a bag of lipgloss and perfume. That is laughable! Many of us are putting ourselves through college with this line of work and we do NOT all abuse drugs and/or alcohol.

You may be surprised at the number of readers that you alienate with this article. I would suggest you print an apology.
