    Default More womanly figure?

I've always been a tiny bit chunkier than I'd like to be since puberty. I'm now 26 and due to hormonal or metabolic changes or what have you, I've gotten quite skinny. I eat well and am healthy--no concerns about why I've lost the weight. My body is just changing.

Well, I thought I'd be thrilled, but I'm not! I'm skinny, dammit! I want some jiggly!

There aren't exactly a lot of resources online for how to enhance your figure, just how to slim it. Does anyone have diet/exercise suggestions for making your figure more womanly? I don't want to pig out and be unhealthy. I want to put on good fat.

agreed^ Doing excercises to sculpt your body, give you thigh muscles, a butt and some calves. Broaden the shoulders and such....you can (if you are dedecated) help to form your body the way you want...within reason ofcourse.

I have started doing pilates, but every proponent of pilates emphasizes that it won't bulk you up. Is it true, or just something people selling pilates videos tell you since most women don't want that?

For my lower body, do I have to use actual weights (like gym machines and whatnot) or will regular squats, lunges, etc. build me up?

Sorry, the only kind of exercise I know anything about is aerobic, because my goal was always to lose weight before!

I used to do pilates and I got stronger and more flexible but it didn't bulk me up at all.

Pilates is a good base form of exercise. It helps with proper alignment and overall muscle recruitment so that you use your body correctly when you exercise/dance/move safely and more effectively. Pilates uses a lot of marketing words to sell the product. Pilates is great but it doesn't create "long lean muscles."

For actual shaping, weights are best. I love squats, lunges, step ups and deadlifts. For back I love straight arm push downs using a pulley and bent-over rows.

When you do weight training, try to incorporate the form and technique you use in Pilates.

Look into adding weight training to your workouts. I was in your position before. I weighed 15 lbs less and was too skinny for my liking. The way I put on muscle is by training with heaving weights, and ensuring that I was always eating enough good food (lot's of protein). Eat lot's of healthy fats like avocados and almonds. Drink protein shakes.

Protein and weight gain shakes could help too with healthy protein and fats in them.

You don't need a gym to do weight training. A personal trainer friend of mine designed a routine for me to do while I'm working away from home and can't get to the gym. It was sets of lunges, pushups, sit-ups and tri-cep dips, with extra pulses on the lunges and situps. Worked a treat while I was away from the gym. She usually gets me to do lunges anyway because they're so good for your legs and bum.

Ballet classes will tone you up but it is not going to get your heart rate up like running and walking will. Ballet is like pilates because it tones you without using weight. Do it, it's great for you and you will feel renewed.

Fitgrlaz---Wow--if that's you in your avatar, I want to know what you did!! I'm built like you, but look like a skinny little boy version of you! hahaha!

Any way you could share your workout with me? Like, which exercises, lifting how much and how many sets/reps? I found this workout on Muscle and Fitness for Her, but it just seems kinda wimpy. It suggests only 3 or 4 exercises per body part, and only two sets of 6-10 reps each. And it suggested only doing each body part once a week. That doesn't seem like much to me. But then again, I seriously know NOTHING about weight training.

Pasta! I swear, 'tis the secret of curves - not fat, curves. Oh, and hula-hoop too, it tones the muscles that nip in your waist, giving you a more exaggerated waist-to-hip-ratio.
