Meh, I'm getting my pre-req's done for my teaching credentials and I'm spending time teaching kids, too... In between the days I work at the club. You're not doing anything wrong or immoral. If you get arrested for extra's or something... Well, that's another story. Things might be different in Canada, but I don't see how other students knowing your a stripper would really adversly affect your teaching career. They can't say, "No, you can't be a teacher because we heard you were a stripper".
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

you're not a 'sicko' at all ! In the grand scheme of things, choosing to be an exotic dancer as one part of your life and at the same time choosing to teach children as a different part of your life should be totally separate non-connected enterprises.
However, certain school superintendants and parents' groups may be of a different opinion !

i have experience with this.. my school was NOT happy when they found out. my supervisor for student teaching had a talk with me, all kinds of stuff. there was nothing they could do, but they made me very aware of how unhappy they were. at that point i was only waitressing! i ended up changing my major anyway, but there were plenty of remarks made. i think it's stupid.

Did you at any time think of NOT approaching this girl ? By approaching her you validated that you were you.... you could've totally ignored her or asked to sit out the back for a bit whilst she was within the club (or even go home).
The only other way they can prove that it was you is if you have to have a license to dance or you have declared your earnings as a dancer... the good ol' papertrail.
Otherwise, from now on, I would highly recommend to get a wig and dance with the wig .........and if you see a fellow student or someone from the school.... do NOT approach them!!!! Stay the hell away from them... go into the dressing room... go home... just do not speak with them and validate that you are you!
Did you seriously at no time think of NOT approaching her and speaking with her? If you hadn't approached her, you can easily (even more so than now) brush it aside as someone that looked like you.

I think as long as you can pass the required background checks for teachers, it should be okay.
Unless someone who knows you've been a dancer really wanted to hurt you....There will always be people who will find it unacceptable that a woman who teaches their children has a background in the sex industry. It could definitely cause trouble for you later. This is one of the reasons I've stayed out of teaching programs (though I like teaching and have worked as a preschool teacher, environmental educator, and K-12 tutor)--I don't want to have to keep that part of my life a big giant secret. It just feels bad to me.

I still say that you should invest in a wig piece or three for work purposes so this never happens again. It is amazing how people won't recognise someone due to a different hair style and/or hair colour. If you feel you have alot to loose by being recognised, then do your darnest to not be recognised.

So this person ran into you at work....um...what were THEY doing there than too? If she ratted on you, she'd be ratting on herself at the same time.
I'd grab my trumpet and I'd do a stripper sound, like the old Louis Armstrong, real raspy. And the people would go nuts! Then I knew that the sexual, sensual, guttural sound, that throbbing sound, is where it's at.

Oh my god Pr, I am so sorry this happened to you. I've seen people from school at work once or twice before as well. It hasn't been an issue for me since I am in philosophy and...well, no one gives a shit about crazy philosophy students who will end up working at Starbucks anyway.
Ok, my advice is similar to your boyfriend's. It has always been my backup plan, should trouble ever happen. DENY, DENY, DENY. Only you and her know for sure what happened. She doesn't have proof (god bless the no licenses around here). If she brings it up at school, shrug it off. You're a pretty blonde, and you were mistaken for another one. Keep that as your story if need be. There is no proof. Someone would have to be truly fucked up if they needed to go 'ratting' on other people in their program about their personal lives. And I agree with you: rampant drugs in the washrooms? Whatever. This bitch sounds full of delusional moral indignation, and she was condescending to you for no reason other than to be domineering witch. I have found that the worst are people my own age. They talk down to me more than any other customer: in other words, young kids who think they have the world figured out.
Incidentally, I cannot imagine this could impact your career in any huge way. It's not illegal, you don't do illegal things, you were young (just play into their hand, you know?). It's still Ontario, and those teachers unions are strong, aren't they? I don't know a whole lot, but when people talk about morality, ehh. I'm in ethics. Morality is a slippery thing to define. I don't see it as being wrong by any ethical codes I find supportable. Basically, you can be a dancer, and still be a mature, responsible adult. It need not affect your interaction with children, and really how could it, so long as you keep the two parts of your life separate? I know rationality isn't the universal principle of problem solving, and that small-minded people can get hysterical. Which is sad, shitty, and in my opinion the biggest drawback to this job. So again, I'd say just deny your head off, but I really doubt much will come of this. Even if she were low enough to gossip about it, she'd probably come off as nothing more than a gossipy college girl. Just don't indulge it. It'll be ok!

I worry about something like that happening, too. I TA undergraduates and I worry about one of them coming in and seeing me. But then again my club is 21 and over so that eliminates most of them. Also, it's an hour's drive away. So I guess the chances of them coming in on the night I work is pretty low. No one I go to school with knows and I'd like to keep it that way. When I worry about things like this happening I just tell myself that 1) I'm not doing anything illegal, 2) I'm not even a real teacher; I'm a student that's working and trying to be financially above water and manage my time, and 3) the world won't end!
You can't control if she says anything or not. She probably won't. Bottom line: you're not doing anything wrong.
Being a stripper is inmoral and dirty to a looooooot of people. Even guys who go to strip clubs think strippers are dirty. Just think about how many guys ask you: "Why do you work here? don't you think you deserve better?" (All I want to do is puch these guys in the eye with my shoes, but that's another story)
If they find out that you are dancing, chances are they will think you are doing something wrong. You will still be a teacher, but even if they don't admit it, they will think of you as someone who is not appropiate to take care of young children. My suggestion is....get a wig. and even if you can, try working in a less popular club. But, just be careful, don't be paranoid, it took more than a year to run into someone you know, and you only have 6 months to go. Good Luck!
P.S:::
What I said is meant from other people's point of view. But I hope you know that you are absolutely not doing anything wrong. Being a dancer is a job, not who you are. You work as a dancer, you get naked and give lap dances, but is that what you do in your free time?? Just because you do it as a job doesn't mean that you are not right to be a teacher. Don't ever forget that.

I'm going to college right now to be a teacher and am dancing to pay for it. I don't think its sick.![]()
I love strippers who think they can become teachers. So entertaining.

A young kindergarten teacher is facing the sack after it was revealed she earns money on the side - as a stripper.
I'm not even gonna google any further - it is just plain silly to think a history of being a stripper is not going to influence the decisions of a school administration or the local PTA.
All I know, is when it comes to something sexual that is off the narrow, that person is going to lose when it comes to school employment.
Maybe you can get lucky and work in a liberal private school (if such a thing exists) or in post-high school work.

^^Both of those are cases where the woman was doing this stuff WHILE teaching. I think there is a difference between that (from an administrator's point of view) and prior history to the teaching job. Not to mention, given that there is no licensing in our region, it's fairly reasonable to imagine she could hide this job history when she actually does apply to be a teacher.
exactly molly! I don't think it matters so much as long as you quit before you begin teaching! I'm planning to become a teacher as well, but I don't want to teach children, I wanna teach college.

I'm not amused in any sense by the fact that I think I can become a Teacher after working as a Stripper. I don't plan on participating in the industry once I find a job, and will be teaching in a different city than I work in now. There's no reason why stripping during college should prevent a career as a teacher. My fifth grade teacher openly admitted to her students, their parents, and her boss that she stripped her way through college and it was fine. It's not like she was still doing it. And that's in close minded Texas. I think we'll be fine, girls.

I still don't see why you shouldn't be able to strip AND teach? What's the 8 year old doing in a titty bar anyway?

Uhh, I majored in dance and psych in college. I teach ballet to 12-16 year olds every week to keep up with my skills. And I'm not a pervert. So don't worry about it

I know it's idealist... but it's also realistic. Too many parents have their heads in their asses about sex... for chrissakes, if it weren't for sex, Timmy wouldn't even be there!

There was a story on the news semi recently about a teacher who did porn and was not allowed to teach anymore, I think it was in NJ or NY
