    Default More or Less?

If you're trying to lose weight is it better to cut down on the amount of food you eat or is it better to eat more food only healthier?

I think healthier. And if you drink soda. Only diet, water, and juice.

I've learned that even diet soda is no good on a diet because it makes you crave carbs later.
I stick to water and tea sweetened with splenda

I mean is it better to eat less food/cut down because I have also heard that this slows down your metabolism, making you GAIN weight. Or eat more food that's healthier?

what do you mean by more food?

if you're comparing 1000 cals to 1600, eat more food. if you're comparing 1600 cals to 2000 cals, eat less.

and carbs are not the enemy! Just pick them wisely...whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, etc.

I'm comparing 700 calories to 1000. So what you're saying is that if you eat too few calories you might actually GAIN weight?

For most women, 700 to 1000 calories a day is NOT enough. Its not healthy to cut calories this much! Your body goes into starvation mode and clings to the extra weight for dear life.

Yeah the minimum a woman is meant to have is something like 1200 cals a day (I think, don't quote me on that number). But if you eat too little calories, your body goes into starvation mode and tries to save everything you're consuming.

At the end of the day though, the only healthy way is to combine a healthy diet with exercise. It's been shown that people who diet usually eventually gain the weight back, but those who eat healthier but without restricting themselves along with doing regular exercise lose weight and keep it off. Remember you burn more calories when you have more lean muscle and you get that from exercise...

Its not that you'll gain weight, you just might have a harder time losing it. I think that there is a calculator on self.com and on glamour.com where you can figure out how many calories you should eat per day to lose weight.

Both work. It depends on what best suits you.

Indirectly. Eating too few calories will slow your metabolic rate, thus making it easier to gain weight when you raise your calories.
