Angry bring on anti-smoking in clubs in july rant

i cannot wait for this, literally cannot wait.
i am a non-smoker and it is completely disgusting to have to breathe in people's smoke all night, smell that disgusting smell on my clothing and in my hair.
i choose not to smoke and i hate having it imposed on me. i am very health conscious too and i worry about the effects of second-hand smoke.

i especially hate it when i am doing my table sets and they blow their smoke up towards me - yeh it rises!

then walking through the club in my nice outfits and i have to dodge the cigarettes in people's hands - i'm worried it will burn me or my outfit.

when smokers get drunk they get so careless about their cigarettes.

bring on the anti-smoking legislation in july - i couldnt care less if it means less money via less customers, i think health is more important.
i wish smokers would realise that other people have the right to breathe and not get smoking related diseases.
anyone else wanna join in my rant?

Well that will be weird no smoking in the club. I wonder what will the club do, to make up for that, Most dancer and customer smoke.

Being a smoker, I'm not sure what I'll do when the legislation comes in. I don't mind no smoking on the floor as long as there is a safe area or courtyard for smokers. I doubt I could get through a shift without smoking at all.

Melbourne and the rest of Australia is just following suit. Queensland has been completely no smoking now for months (almost a year). I must say it is definately a much more pleasant work environment however there is a big huge drawback .............. most of the patrons come into the club want to drink and smoke. They don't stay that long because they get the 'itch' to smoke and must go outside to do so and we ALL know that if a patron leaves the club and goes outside.... it is just way to easy for him to not come back in and go elsewhere (another club or just home).

Plus if there is just ONE smoker amongst a group of guys you can bet that the rest of the pack esp. if that smoker is the alpha male will leave with the smoker.

Other than not having to breath in and smell like smoke which I personally was pretty used to and knew how to deal as it was all part of the working environment... so I didn't really care.... I wouldn't say it has improved business at all! I would say the complete opposite.

Plus as far as I am aware... Melbourne isn't going the way QLD is now... you are just having 2/3 of all clubs no smoking (just like QLD did) for a period before introducing the ban within all clubs.

I am NOT looking forward to that ban happening.

Oh yeh... it also depends on the club... either the dressing room then becomes an ashtray because dancers cannot go outside to smoke or behind the building there is a smokers area/corner and that becomes ugly.... it just doesn't work.

Whilst all good and everything... I'm against purely for business reasons. I'm a "never smoker" and the smoking didn't really bother me all that much. I dealt with it. I just made sure to eat healthy, drink alot of water etc so my body cleansed itself.

I wish more clubs here were smoke free, yet serve alcohol. I quit on NYE and I can't spend too much time in a smoky bar with out feeling tempted to smoke again.

The smoking allowed in the bars is hurting my money, as I can't even go in to work right now if I wish to remain tabacco free.

Maybe I'll have better control a month from now.

I think it's better for everyone overall. You might be surprised at how the non-smoking customers all of a sudden come out of the wood work.
I worked and lived in both NYS and CA where there are anti-smoking laws. Believe me, people still go out and party and people still get lap dances. It's going to have a positive effect on everyone.
    Be thankful!

This is so strange to me because I just moved from California (a no smoking state) to Georgia (a smoking state) and it's weird to me that smoking IS allowed. I agree with the OP in every respect... it's disgusting on so many levels and I have to keep everything that has been at the club in a completely different area from my other things. I tried to hang my jacket up in the closet and I went in there the next day and the whole closet smelled like smoke! And I've been burned by a cigarette already. I just don't get it.

I was so glad when they passed the smoking ban in Houston strip clubs. Too bad I'm not gonna be living here when it starts. I've smoked a few packs in my life but I seriosly cannot stand it now. When I leave the club all of me smells like cigs. Its just gross.

that's exactly what happened here. practically all of the dancers at my club smoke like chimneys in the tiny dressing room all at once. as a nonsmoker i can't stand it. plus, a lot of them don't even bother with the ashtray in the corner and just leave their ashes on the floor so we all have to step on them with our bare feet to put our shoes on.

    it's so fucking nasty.

Thank you thank you thank you!

England is also going smoke-free in July. I am SO happy. It's not just when you're working, but I REALLY hate restaurants that allow smoking.

yep, the dressing room has become one of those smoker bins you see at airports and stuff. There is an even smaller rooom to do your hair and makeup and it's a toxic chamber. Girls like to hang out in the DJ booth (another place they can smoke), so they can see the floor. I only go in there to sign in, but I have to hold my breath!

On the bright side, the floor belongs to the non-smokers who don't constantly have to leave to get their fix.

I am disappointed that the club is filing for an exception appeal. i hope they don't get it!

It's hitting Az in May I think....and I'm glad. I quit smoking, admittedly I have one cig a night sometimes...and I hate it. I worked in a club in Tempe that had a no smoking rule for a while...it sucked for the first month or two, but after that it went right back to normal money...really didn't hurt things all that much.

It would be great if clubs could construct a patio, outdoor smoking lounge type of thing.... Hmmmm..... Then the cuties would stay put?

I have only been in clubs in BC and Alberta Canada and in BC they have designated smoking areas so when I have visited them it is literally a "breath of fresh air"

The smoking areas have to be contained with adequate ventilation and away from the "common area"

I wish every club was like that!!!

If you're in the UK (I am) the new laws will not apply to 'Gentlemen's Clubs' or 'Private Member's Clubs' ...like many strip clubs are, mine is. I have never so much as smoked one cigarette in my life, and I hate smoke too, but in a sense - maybe the money will get better, as it'll be the only type of bar where you can go to smoke! Annoying, but may have an upside?

Smoking bans are awesome... I was having trouble quitting until I worked for a year in Wilmington, DE, where you may not smoke indoors... without the easy access and temptation... worked like a charm

I work in San Diego so I'm used to no smoking in the club as well as restaurants and even schools. The club I used to work at had a pretty nice smoking room near the VIP that had a ventilation fan in the ceiling so it sucked all the smoke out. I don't smoke so its never really been an issue for me but I've never heard any customers from out of town compalin about it and I also haven't ever seen a problem with girls ashing on the floor or anything. I think the managers would have been pissed and put an end to that real fast.

I agree! I was never a smoker... and I have always danced in no-smoking clubs. The management makes the customers and dancers go outside to smoke (guys out front... dancers out back.) I always listen to girls complain in the winter or bad weather that they HAVE to go outside to smoke... you don't HAVE to do anything, thats my opinion.

And since girls have started smoking in the bathroom (yuck... big cloudy room of death!) there is now a $50 fine for doing so!!

Everyone who smokes knows it is unhealthy. It should be banned in all public places everywhere. People will adapt. If a person won't go to a place where they can't smoke, they really need help in kicking the habit. Tobacco has controlled their life.

It hasn't made a difference in Austin. People are still smoking in nightclubs and stripclubs.

It depends on how they structure the bylaw. The first smoking ban in Toronto was a) in the winter (idiots) and b) levied a fine against the smoker, not the establishment; so the establishment was only obliged to inform the smokers of the ordinance. You can imagine that this wasn't effective. The second time they fined the establishment, and passed it in the summer. Worked much better. business barely rippled.

    Yay non-smoking bars!

one thing to keep in mind though ...

the same people who feel that they are entitled to enact laws to prohibit smoking based on 'good social policy' could decide tomorrow to redirect that same 'good social policy' to enact laws prohibiting strip clubs !

Yes, Melonie, but some people base our decisions, both health and political, on things more conceptual than our immediate gratification. I'm sure I'm not the only person here who doesn't structure her entire ideology with the starting point "I work in/go to strip clubs; what conditions in the world will best serve that?" Most of us would probably try to sensibly distinguish the existence of strip clubs to the existence of second hand smoke rather than just do away with all policy decisions.

Philadelphia has supposidly gone smoke free but Delilahs and Cheerleaders still allow smoking. They just pay a fine. I think the smoking ban in our area only seems like a way for the city to get more money out of nightclubs.
