Default Global Warming- An Inconvenient Truth

So last night I watched the Al Gore film about Global Warming and I was near tears over this issue. How can we sit by and let the planet be destroyed when there are SO MANY little things we can all do to help save it? Seriously.. Im going to buy the dvd and make copies and give them out I highly recommend everyone watching the film, it WILL change your way of thinking.

Also go to the site www.climatecrisis.net which is run by the filmmakers (im thinking) and it gives lots and lots of tipis and what you can do as an individual to help.

Seriously.. if you were to see how quickly the ice caps have melted... it's absurd. We are literally DESTROYING earth.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I beg of you to watch this film or visit the site... if everyone pitched in and helped just a little bit we can make a huge difference in this deadly problem...

Thank you guys so much :o)

yea... I downloaded it the other night n watched it with my boyfriend... he used to be iffy on global warming and it woke him up to the truth... if it can change his mind the world must see it! (he doesn't take anything at face value... he researched it's accuracy online before watching it and said all the scientists were acclaiming the proper use of scientific fact and research in Gore's arguments).

Im gonna ask my boyfriend to watch it too.. I think he'll be pretty shocked.. I know I was.. I actually cried for a few minutes just knowing that literally the earth is being ruined by humans... and it's not jus the temperature that's being affected.. the huricans and tornados.... death of animals... they have no where to go and it's killing them... it's horrible the humans are turning their faces the other way and just pretending that it isn't happening... actually it's more disgusting that humans are allowing themselves to do this.. we have to help make a difference! If everyone on here can help change and then they tell people about this film.. maybe we CAN make a huge change one day :o)

Saw it and I agree! I have always been enviromentally friendly, but never militant. I went out a spent like $200 on energy efficent light bulbs, gave more out as Christmas gifts.

I find it interesting that only Americans deny or simply don't know about global warming. I also find it amusing that the scientists that claim that global warming is a "normal" fluctuation in the earth's atmosphere were hired by Exxon-Mobile for $6.4 billion. Yep, BILLION. I think I could make the numbers work for the oil companies for a paycheck that size, too.

Now go watch "Who Killed The Electric Car". And finish up with a viewing of "The Day After Tomorrow" showing in Hollywood action flick style the result of global warming and what it might look like.

Shouldn't be hard for folks to see, it tends to be stocked up good at rental stores like mine, and rented minimally, so there are always tons of copies for rent and for sale used.

Michael is HUGE on energy efficiency so I really feel like we do our part. After all, he is an energy assessor engineer.

Use energy saving lightbulbs. Switch to green electricity if you can (costs about $10 per bill more though). Turn things off at the wall. Hell, we even have a water tank for getting our water. My car has amazing milage so I can travel far for less emissions. We recycle nearly everything. Our recycle bin is fuller than our garbage bin. I even grow my own spices and chillies.

But I still haven't seen it.

Nor do I want to - Michael would start panicking and go even more energy insane on me.

I saw the movie.. it didn't startle me much, nor did it really tell me anything I didn't already know. Here's two things I remind everyone who is freaking out about this movie..

    1) Al Gore is a politician, who as far as I've read still hasn't ruled out running for the presidency in '08. Therefore I caution not to take everything in this movie at face value. Anything a politician has his/her fingers in means there's an agenda. Think about it, a politician gaining grassroots support through this medium? So much free publicity? Not only that, but people are PAYING to see it? Gotta hand it to him for sheer cleverness.

    2) There is a basic cycle to this planet... into and out of ice ages. The glaciers advance going into an ice age.. and the glaciers retreat coming out of an ice age. We just came out of an ice age, and the glaciers have been retreating these past centuries. There's a graphic in the movie itself showing the glaciers covering over half the U.S... then they began retreating. Soooo, why are we so shocked that they're STILL retreating? It's part of the process, no? I oft wonder if the industrial age had occurred much later, toward the time we'd be headed into an ice age.. and the glaciers were advancing.. Would we have a Global Cooling hysteria?

Bottom line, pollution is very bad. Yes. To the drastic levels this movie suggests? Er.. maybe not. I need to read up on it more.. and I did buy a copy of the movie (used at Hollywood Video) so I can check it out again. The fact is we really don't know for sure.. but its easy to throw up some numbers and pretty graphs, simplify things down down down and make inferences and suggestions and create the kind of effect in people's opinions that you want..

All's I'm saying is don't form your complete opinion based on one movie. Look around a bit.

Oh and I'm also not saying conservation is bad or unnecessary... quite the contrary, I'm all for it. I just dislike all the hysterics.

    I dislike hysterics, too.

But the Intergovernment Panel on Climate Change has some interesting findings, with more on the way. You can see a story on it .

I think a lot of the consequences are speculative and really unknown at this point, but to deny that it's happening is akin to promoting creationism as a science. It will be interesting to see how we decide to address it.

If you look into scientist's opinions on the movie... you won't find many pans. As for me and my boyfriend... all our bulbs are energy savers, both our vehicles are low on gas mileage (for now... when we go on our trip we're still trying to keep it low but imports don't pull travel trailers!), I also re-use all my plastic bags from shopping trips as trash bags... I know stupid, little... but it makes sense. We don't use a dishwasher either (and don't forget to turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth like they tell ya in school lol).

I love that the newest idea to save us all from global warming is the equivalent of putting an umbrella over the Earth. Yes, that's much more cost effective than reducing emissions, deforestation, and overfarming the land.

I have house shared with 2 environmentalists (both worked for DG Environment for the European Commission) over the last 2 years and I have to tell you, sorry, but what is in the Al Gore movie is only the half of it. When you start to read about the number of species that die out annually, the coming drinking water shortage that we will all likely face, overfishing, etc it is really scary. It won't be long and there will be nothing left.

Population explosion is the main problem. The more of us there are, the more resources we use / destroy / consume / waste.

By the way, I was lucky enough to get tickets to the advance premier of the film in Belgium where Al Gore spoke about this for 30 mins before the film started. He is a hell of a good speaker. I know we all presume that, but he really is good live. If you get the chance to see him speak about this, you really should go.

The Smart Car...bad ass, and clean for the environment. I don't think we have any yet over here.

But yes, it's been a growing problem, too many people...bottom line.

Scientists say that killer whales will pay the price soon as will Polar bears and seals... they all depend on ice to rest, float and hunt off of. Not Whales...

Humans... great killer of all. Yes i am quilty i drive a Mustang...friends are bothering me to get a hybrid of some sort...Hmmm.

    1. It is soooooo dorky!
    2. It isn't available.

It looks like a nice concept that should be investigated further.

I try to do what I can with my meager means to support being green . But have you seen the prices on all these alternative energy sources , you gotta be rich to even think about it .
