    Default Feel good thread

I don't know if this has been posted before, but I thought it might be a good idea. I feel everyone goes through their tough times and I figured this would be a good place to share what kept you going. Stories that cheered you up things that you do when your down, philosophies, and whatever really. I thought it'd be cool because whenever your down you could come to the feel good thread and hopefully feel better.

I guess I'll start. Whenever something is going on in my life and I don't know how to deal with it I talk to myself. (not like a crazy person mind you. hmm, nothing wrong with it even if I did .) I guess I act like my own psychologist because I ask myself what the problem is and answer my own question. I mean seriously, hearing your concerns voiced puts them in a different perspective and could help. On the silly note c'mon you gotta imagine yourself doing this I always imagine how I'm looking when I'm doing this and I can't help but smile or laugh because I'm thinking I look like a dumbass. I can't stay upset when I'm laughing at myself so I think it works.

I hope alot of people post because you never know when something you say could help somebody else.

By the way I'm not crazy, my psychologist said I'm sane. So you have nothing to worry about.

Whenever I feel bad, i tell my cats all about it while I cuddle them.

They love me unconditionally, will listen to me for hours, won't try to offer bad advise or opinions, stay cuddled up to me for as long as I need them to. Couldn't ask for better friend.

    I've kept a GRATITUDE JOURNAL.

No matter what happens I MUST write down a minimum of 5 things everyday that I am grateful for. From small things to how good that hot shower felt, getting a great deal on an outfit, cupping a cup of hot coffee between my hands on a cold day....all the way up to big events in the day that made it.

Some spells have not been easy doing this such as when my Granny died, my parents disowned me and so forth, but it keeps the focus on what is good in your life even if it is full of a whole lot of bad.

I heard a lecture at college and the man said "WHAT YOU FOCUS ON DETERMINES YOUR REALITY!" I found his words to be true. Dwell on the negatives in your life and you become negative and bitter. Dwell on the positives no matter how small and you will be the eternal optomist.

Yeah I know this sounds way too Oprah Winfry-ish but hey if it works for someone don't knock it
Be very careful if you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man's rib. Not from his feet to be walked on. Not from his head to be superior, but from the side to be equal. Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved."

ohh...I like the gratitude journal. Some days it can be hard to be grateful for 1 thing, btu to come up with 5...Im sure that on a bad day, that helps to remind you of the important things in life. IM going to start doing that.

I am just now going through a breakup, its been a week now, we dated for 17 months. It was very nasty, turns out he is a user of people, especially me..............

so, I did as I always do when I'm sad..... I cuddled up with my dogs, watched tv, cried, got mad, talked to my doggies about it, exercised, clean, then finally went shopping. (I'm on the shopping thing now) Also, my friends kept dragging me out this past weekend to crazy places like museums, I guess they think I need culture.. haha. So, I feel 100% better and have a better outlook, bring it on world!

I try to figure out what's making me feel funky, then figure out if I can change it. If I can, I fix it. If it's something out of my control, I've just learned to let it go (which is much harder than it sounds).

I keep a prayer journal....it helps me to think of people other than myself when I'm feeling down about things going on in my own life. I'll write things down in it throughout the day....that I need to pray for a child I saw missing on the news, for a homeless cat I saw walking down the street, for my brother to get his life together, for my room mate to have a good night at work, for Paige to get her medicine, for my mom to get a good grade on her Biology test......and then on the other side of the days list is sort of like the gratitude journal - I write the things I need to remember to thank God for at the end of the day - the man that said "good mornin' ma'am" as I passed him on the street and was on the brink of tears because I was wrapped up in my own problems, for the oppurtunity to be at the University I wanted to go to, for the friends I have that I can always go too, for the three squirrels I saw throwing nutshells at each other on the way to class....

When I'm feeling upset or overwhelmed - I look back at all the things I've prayed for, all the things I've been thankful, and all the reasons that I know no matter how big and scary the bad looks, the good will always outweigh it, as long as you are willing to allow it too.

And then sometimes...I log into SW when the above doesn't work...and I post a "bad day, sad shell" thread....and my friends and people just offering a kind word remind me that we are all in this world together.

Lol, they are so cute. Kaylinn, the cat on the right looks like he had kitty plastic surgery. His face is so pronounced for a cat, I have three as well, and I snuggle with them when I feel terrible.

That's Peanut..she's sick, and thin right now, thats why her face is all sunk in like that. She gets 4 shots, and 3 oral meds every day......but since this is the feel good thread...
She has been improving and gaining weight, which is good, unfortunatly, she cant be cured, the meds will only work for so long...

A good cry makes me feel better, especially if K pets my hair and gives me a kiss on the forehead. I just had that about five minutes ago and I feel a little bit better already.

I'm SO sorry to hear that, but look at it this way, not only is she your angel on earth but you know that her mission to love you and protect you will never end. Give her kisses for me please

Taking a hot bath, crying to my bf, cuddling with my cats (Pogo and Siren) and listening to music all help me feel better when I'm upset.
The crying never feels that great in the process, but when my guy makes me laugh at something or I realize how silly I sound, I feel better knowing I got my emotions out. I usually laugh a lot afterwards.
Pogo is really docile and dumb, so his presence is unobtrusive and he has very relaxing energy. I've always referred to Siren as my "kitty nurse" because whenever I am sick or upset, she can sense it and comes right over to see if I am okay.
    Here they are:

Pogo is the darker fat one and Siren is the one in front.
