Default Dirty love of cheap eyeshow....

So... I was never able find an eyeshadow brand that looked right on me... until I tried the CVS gift pack "color works" palette after having two girls I work with who normally use nicer makeup recommend it, now I'm so hardcore hooked on it! They blend amazing... creamy texture, very very intense color, can't find anything else like it that isn't like 20 bucks a shade (I'm not rich... what can I say...). Anybody know some color singles that produce the same effect for a reasonable price? I just want to buy larger pots of the same kind of shadow... as each little pan they include only lasts me about a week!

ahhhhhh.... I need to go to bed... I misspelled eyeshadow in the title and can't figure out how to fix it!

    Hey girl.

As far as reasonably priced goes, Urban Decay is a good alternative to the highly revered MAC brand with its vibrant color palette and it goes for $4.99 + about $1.50 (S&H) on Ebay (Although hardcore MAC Addicts will denounce it as heresy; LoL).

BTW, Thanx for the dish on the "Color Works"- Good to know for when "Times are Hard". I tend not to experiment with "bargain" eyeshadows after a bad encounter with a Wet N' Wild duo, showing me that spending (just a little) more will get me more (as is the case generally).

    BEWARE OF WET N' WILD!!!

^ I do have to say though that wet n wild's mascara (3.50) with the white underapplication is better than the 7+ dollar ones, only beat (a little) by the $16+ ones sold at sephora.

    Hmmm; Nyce Fancy.

Your right though Fancygirl. After spending buku on mascaras that promised not to clump, but clumped-on anywayz (Maybelline, Cover Girl, etc. = ), I decided to go on strike and lashed out by purchasing the cheapest mascara I could find,

"What's the worse thing that could happen? I hate it and it ends up in my drawer with the rest," right?

Well the $1.99 I spent on the Wet N' Wild Megalash Lengthening went a long way
Shocked the sh*t out of me!

1 drawback though: Although I got what they call the "smudgeproof" formula, it still runs like a mug, so it's a dancing no-no , unless you can check yourself often enough. I have found that if I have on dark eye shadows, the mascara doesn't disturb my look (I guess it blends in). But for street wear it is really nice and you can build your lashes as much as you like.

Another plus is that it comes off easily enough with eye makeup remover, and it leaves your lashes feeling soft (and actually intact, unlike other mascaras I have used which form this thick goopey coating that causes a few eyelashes to rip off on the cotton pad.

    Good lookin Ma.

90% of my eyeshadows are either Milani or Prestige. I also use some blushes, bronzers, and darker press powders as eyeshadow.

Not necessarily- I know many MAC lovers who think Urban Decay's shadows are great and just as pigmented...the biggest problem is the glitter in almost every color.

I dunno... I haven't had great experiance with cheap eyeshadow. I like Estee Lauder's eyeshadows because they blend well and they go on really LIGHT (as in, not a lot of color). No glittery crap, either. I WILL say this - Almay's eyeshadows suck! They're super glittery and dark and go on too powdery for my tastes... If that makes any sense? (I used it for a photoshoot once and it showed up really well, though... So maybe it's okay for that.)

I'm sort of curious about Urban Decay, though. I've heard a lot about it's shadows... I've just never tried it. It was popular when I was in highschool... That and Hard Candy. Is that brand still around? How is it?

If you want it to last a long time, sometimes the more expensive stuff is better, b/c you use less for the same vibrant color. That is def. a factor in cost...... So I love to use the mac shadesticks then pigment over it..... you could try to find something cheaper like that, it's so effective (a powder/dust over a creamy stick shadow).

It never hurts to put down a base too, no matter what the brand of shadow. I see a lot of gals on an eyeshadow group I'm on are using Vaseline now LOL.

I'll second the maybelline mascara... I'll have to try this Wet n Wild brand, but I'm worried, my contacts cause irritation frequently with any other brand.

This is the cheapest coolest eyeshadow- burned cork or art charcoal. A little goes a long way.

hmm, paige, I'll have to use that vaseline thing-- lotion seems to work as well.

As far as wet n wild mascara, I was talking about the Wet n wild mega length double action mascara for about 3.50 (can get cheaper though.)

I bought the Maybelline Intense XXL volume+length microfiber mascara the same day.

for me, the white part of the wet n wild works better than maybellines-- and the mascara for wet n wild doesn't work so badly either, but I typically put maybelline's mascara over wet n wild's white gunk, because I do notice the microfibers in the mascara working a little bit better. But for THICKNESS in a white undercoat, wet n wild rocks.

Also, ladies, beware-- tip from my MUA friend, do not wear waterproof mascara ever. It makes your eyelashes brittle, and makes them break very easily leaving you with short stunted nubby eyelashes.

I'm all for the Colorworks lipstick personally....I got a purple-y one in a gift pack from my Granny and it's my favorite but it's almost gone.

I'm going to bring it to the makeup counters next time I'm at the mall and see if anyone can match the color. If not....I'm buying another giftpack. It's that good.

That Color Works Palette sounds interesting. Another inexpensive e/s to try is Milani sold at Walgreens, CVS, Brooks- though not all the locations have it. The eyeshadows are quite intense and pretty and $3 each. They also have e/s quads. It got great reviews on www.makeupalley.com.

If any of you use browns, I suggest Wet N Wild's bronzers. Tres fun! Quite blendable too. That's what I use here:

Word- I thought so. I hate the shit and it never really completely comes off, even with remover. Eyemake up residues feed dermatophytes in your eyelashes ( yuck!), so that's reeeally important for eye health ladies .

Lately I've been just curling my lashes and putting some Vaseline on them (makes them shiny) since my eyes have been a bit irritated (what is up with the water?!). You have to curl them first though, as the Vaseline won't let them curl afterwards.

It makes sense that using Vaseline as a base would facilitate eye makeup removal while conditioning delicate eye tissue.

Hot2Trot-- I used to do that with vaseline. What I would do was if I didn't have any clear mascara (which I really liked) I had a cleaned mascara brush that I would rub with vaseline and then rub through my eyelashes.

Umm...I just discovered something you might like, I DO!!!
HIP by L'oreal (high-intensity pigments) Its a new line and you can get it at Target or WalMart, Im sure reg drugstores too. Its a little more expensive than CG or Maybelline, but WAY cheaper than MAC or even Urban Decay (I bought an eyeshadow duo yesterday for $6.99 @ Target). They have great, super-intense colors and they go on super-smooth. Seriously, try em!!!
With all the stupid things guys will say, stay cool.
