Default I'm in charge of new poles for my club! HELP!

I am currently working at Cheaters in Cocoa Beach, Florida. This club has the worst poles of my life. The first is an old axle taken from an 18-wheeler. It is so slippery you absolutely cannot grip to it unless you are an expert at pole tricks, and even then you are at a disadvantage. It spins, but not at a consistent speed, and always too fast. It's WAY too thick, like 3.5 inches in diameter. The second is a fiber optic pole that is about 5 inches in diameter and I've never seen a girl do a trick on it. A strip club without good pole tricks is pretty lame.

So I asked the manager very nicely if we could get new poles for Christmas. He said sure, he thought the fiber optic one was pretty lame and wasn't aware the metal one was so shitty. I told him I'd find a contractor, try to keep it reasonably priced, and handle the details.

I called a lot of contractors and I think I settled on one. He's going to come in and give a quote. The other ones are being removed and the new ones are being installed. I might also call the club down the street that has really good new poles and ask them who installed theirs.

    I've chosen:
Brass - seems to be the best combination of value and function. Titanium is way too expensive for the management's taste. It's their job to be cheap. Stainless steel is really slippery and the average dancer seems to have a hard time with it. Brass is sticky and it'll help most of us average pole dancers. I don't know how high the ceiling is. It's anywhere between 14 and 20 feet.
Spinning - Because brass is so sticky and it puts the really good pole dancers at a disadvantage with their tricks that require fast transitions, spinning might help.
2 inches in diameter - this is the thickness that Platinum Stage's and Lil Mynx poles are, so I'll go with that.

Am I making the best choices in regard to material, diameter, and spinning vs. non-spinning?

    Suggestions would be appreciated.

    Lies! Omg!

    Hehe.

I agree on brass being the best material for the club. I also agree on a spinning pole because... well, I like them.

Not lies. It's the crappiest crap of my life. You wouldn't know unless someone told you it was an axle, you'd just think it was a really bad pole.

What does she look like? I just started working at Cheaters in November. I was at Lido and Inner Room in the years before that.

She has a mohawk, lots of piercings and tattoos. She's double jointed and does amazing stage shows. I don't think you'd be able to miss her.

    Brass=great idea
    2in thick= good one too
Spinning poles need some time to get used to. But are really fun when you get how to swing not so hard on them.

But you think spinning would be preferred by more dancers than non-spinning, right? I want to choose the kind of pole that would work well for the largest number of dancers.

Yeah I think she might have moved back here right as you started working. Just checking...sorry...back to the poles!

Maybe you could get one spinning and one stationary, that way you keep everyone happy.

I don't like spinning...spinning is for people that don't know how to spin on their own . They make everyones spins look good, because all you have to do is get on and hold on, but there are so many cool stationary moves that are difficult or too dangerous on a spinning pole! The only club I know of in Van with a spinning pole ended up duct taping the top so that it wouldn't spin anymore (classy!), because the girls were too limited by it.

It really depends what girls in your club want though. Maybe you could get them made so that they have a pin and can be switched from spinning to non?

Why not have one pole spin and the other not? Honestly though I *HATE* spinning poles. I can spin on my own, brass or no brass. I prefer stainless steel but id rather a stationary brass pole then a spinning brass pole.

I agree with everything except the spiing poles. I feel like they're a cop out and some spins (like ones where you're only holding with your hands) are a lot harder to do on a spinning pole. I second what Scarlett says: maybe one with a pin like the PS Super Poles that could be removed...

I've seen some moveable poles that are spinning and then can have a little stick shoved through one of the ends to make it stationary. They probably have something similar in a fixed pole.

As far as spinning too fast--- can't help you. First club I started at had a spinning pole and I loved it, but then again, I didn't really have to learn jack pole wise, though there were other girls that knew tricks.

I would talk to someone who specializes in ball bearings and grease. Sounds odd, but by figuring out what type of ball bearings roll but don't roll fast (i.e. have some friction on them) or a type of grease that is thick enough to keep the bearings rolling consistently but not at lightspeed, it might help you specify your pole orders.

edit: I went back and read others' thoughts. I actually really like spinning poles if they're not crazy fast, but I like the idea of a spinning pole with a pin better, so each girl can decide.

If a lot of girls at your club already DO know how to do pole tricks, then I would say if you're going for one spinning/one not, replace the main stage pole with a stationary and wherever the secondary point of interest pole with a spinning one.

However, if the girls DON'T know pole tricks I think the point of interest is going to shift to wherever the spinning pole is.

One spinning and one non-spinning would please everyone. The pin idea is a good one but everyone would probably forget to pin or de-pin them all the time!

Brass is good and grippy, but does anyone get marks on their lighter coloured clothing from brass poles? I've ruined a couple of good pairs of hotpants on brass.

I only remember one Sin around here. That was SO nothing like her.

I hear more love for stationary around here. At least from IR and Lidos... When I visit Cheaters, though... I see an almost even # of girls who use the pole and those who avoid it.

I keep fantasizing about having SassySummer come to my club to install one of those poles that can be stationary or spinning on all of our stages since our poles suck ass, too. If I were in your position I would price those through her and then get a good local contractor (not the maintenance dude who hangs out for free peeks; I swear that every club has one) to install it for you.

Lucky! So cool your manager is going to fix them for you.

    Brass is awsome.

A 2" pole is perfect as well.

I personally perfer a SLOW spinning pole. I would say yes to spinning, but only if it was one of the slow ones, just to give extra OOMPH to those spin moves, but will not hinder stationary tricks.

I have only found one club that had a nice slow spin pole, and you could barely get me off the damn thing, lol!

^^^Yep, definately 2", brass is good (although we have polished stainless and I like that I rarely have burns from it).

Getting one spinning and one stationary is the best way to please everyone. Also the girls that work there will have the chance to learn all types of tricks, which can be useful in the future. A pin would work, but it would be too much of a pain in the arse. The pins would get lost, no doubt about it. Just my .02

Keep in mind that not everyone is a pole princess who can spin by herself. Some of us need the help. Or else we just stand there. Stuck to the pole. Staring at the audience, plaintively saying "but... but... it's supposed to spin... if I were spinning right now, I'd look good. Just imagine me spinning..." Nobody wants that.

I kidding. I don't do pole work at all (I sort of specialize in walking from one side of the stage to the other), so I have no preference, but for material, I think that brass is less irritating to the skin than anything else. Because now I'm going to gross everyone out - girls who spin (particularly those who spin on a stationary pole) or for that matter slide (my experience) create friction between their skin and the pole. Little teeny tears and stuff. Keep in mind that the pole is unsanitary, even if it is cleaned frequently. And it spreads around viruses and bacteria... several years ago I got something from the pole, and I'm not going to tell you what because you'd all spring back and say "Oh god, gross - you're unclean, bitch". And literally, the only friction I have with pole is sliding down it with my back. Bacteria entered through this LITTLE point of contact between my shoulder blades. I now prefer to keep my blouse on for that song, but covering the friction areas is not an option for many girls. So. Less irritating. I think it's brass that's less irritating, but someone else might know better.
