    Default surgical scar removal

ok i have 2 scars, both about an inch long, and ive tried everything from the drug stores to make them go away. im thinking about saving up and getting them surgically removed. i live in atlanta and was wondering if anyone else in atlanta has had this done before, and if not, how would i start looking for a good doctor? i dont have insurance, and ive never had any kinda of procedure like this done before. i dont even know where to start! about how much do you think im looking at? thanx!

there is scar revision, but there is no such thing as surgical scar removal.

You have to consult a plastic surgeon for scar revision and normally PS procedures start at around $4000ish, so I would say around that. Even if you had insurance, they wouldn't cover it.

    Ugh. $4000? Damn.
I have two scars I'd like to get taken off (they are burns on my forearms) but I figured I'd just have them done at the same time as my boobs.
That could bring the cost down, no? If there's only one surgery time?

I'm just guessing around $4000 because there's not much that plastic surgeons do that cost less than that. I really have no clue as when I got my scar revision, it was at no charge. It also depends on anethesia costs. You might be able to get scar revision under local which saves about $800-1000 because you don't need an anesthisiologist there.

But then if you're getting a BA, you'll definitely be put under so that's moot. That's why you save for multiple surgeries at once. You only have to be put under once. But I'd do them at the same time since it's just better to get it over with and only take off form work once.

no, there were traces of the scar. it was a new scar, just less ugly of one.

before it looked like a puffy worm, then it looked like a fine line. You can't eliminate the scar completely.

it won't be gone, just revised just because you can't cut someone up and sew them back together without a scar.

You can cut out a lot of the nasty scar tissue though, and the treat the new scar with silicone sheets or mederma or whatever. It will look lots better, but never be gone.

ok one more question...i just did some reading online about scars and mine is "hypertrophic" or however u say it. it says sometimes these scars can heal naturally...ive had mine for about 7 months, they are each about an inch long, they are darker then my skin and raised.
do yall think i should maybe get some other over the counter stuff like the scar guard and wait to see if mine heal naturally before i see about scar revision?

A dermatologist can inject puffy, raised scars with steroids to flatten them and make them less noticeable.

Sure can My daughter and I both had this done, and it didn't cost anything out of pocket. I'd find out if this is a viable option for you, LC
