I was just looking over my old pay statements for one of my teaching jobs--I made a take-home pay (after taxes, retirement fund, etc) of $791.78 every 2 weeks. It's obvious they are manipulating the numbers to make teachers look higher paid.

The pay may look good, but their fringe benefits are being slashed. My dad is a teacher, and is horrified at the prospect that his pension, insurance, etc, may be cut or even eliminated.
The problem is that teachers put up with incredible amounts of shit. Every few years, some backseat driver quack psychologist who thinks of success in terms of Press-Gainey scores comes up with a new rah-rah idea that will revolutionize education. The latest and most famous is No Child Left Behind. Guess who pays for it? The teachers. They also have to put up with parents, both helicopters and negligent parents don't believe in discipline.
Also, teaching isn't something that you can just leave at the job. When you get home, you have papers to grade, evaluations to complete, new rah-rah methods to study... They don't get paid for those hours.
Am I really the only one that noticed the headline?
And yeah, the content of the article is total bullshit.

they don't mention annual salary. teachers get 3 months off.
As a matter of fact, they DO mention that.
Ohh, I think I got it.hour is capitalized and it shouldn't be. Teachers aren't overpaid, these two morons that wrote the story are.
