ok,
We've all been to strip clubs. We go to be entertained. The dancers are 1/2 dancer, 1/2 actress, 1/2 public relations genius, and a few other halves I haven't thought of. We all know the score, so calling it a "hustle" seems a little obtuse. Not to be cold, but I can't remember leaving a club and really remembering much about the dancers for morew than a couple of hours, I doubt if any of them remember me for long either.
And now for something completely different.
I was out of town on business and stopped in at a club. As usual, some dancers caught my eye, some didn't. The only one in the club that REALLY caught my eye was on stage, when I went up to tip her, she came over and danced some, but the thing that really got my attention was that she (in addition to the usual) started rubbing my shoulders (that sounds silly, but it's relevant later).
I'd been there for a while, and she had come over to talk a few times. She asked if I'd like a dance, she thought it was a little strange when I told her I'd pay her for a dance if she would finish that back massage. We went to the semi-private booths and the first dance was nothing but back massage. The next 2 were more "traditional".
Here's where it gets a little different. She gave me her number and asked me to call her whenever I'm in town (I know, part of the hustle). Then, as we were talking, a dancer with a really wierd stage name came up on stage and I asked how dancers picked their names. Then she volunteered her "real" name and reminded me to call her.
I wasn't throwing around tons of money. I wasn't dressed like I had tons of money. I wasn't a huge tipper (although I can't let anyone dance a set on stage without getting tipped, regardless of who I'm sitting with at the time).
To make a long story short (or maybe just not as long), I caught a flight home, but while I was at the airport I called and asked if she wanted me to lose the number. She said keep it and reminded me to call her and asked when I would be back in town.
I did some checking (nevermind how), and the name she gave me did turn out to be her (actual) real name. I'm not some freaky stalker, I just wondered if the name was real.
I'm not sure if this is just part of the game, a prelude to a more advanced "professional" relationship, or something more real.
She's not a newbie (dancing for 12 years) and neither am I, but my judgement may be a little clouded. Does the combination of actual name and phone number mean anything beyond the hustle?
I know there's no crystal ball, I just wanted some inside opinions. I'll probably call her next time I'm there in 5-6 weeks and then I'll know.
