    Default Please help with Music!

OK, I admit, I have never even lurked in this part of the forum before. I know nothing about music. I have never even owned a cd player. I am one of the "just play what you want, I don't complain" girls at work to the DJ. The DJs where I work right now are really nice and I want to experiment a little. When a DJ wants info from me, I tell him I like to dance to Shakira, because that is very true.
I love a latin beat when I am on stage. I don't know names and artists. If I like to dance to Shakira, what else might I like to dance to on stage?
    Thanks for your time!

Thank you. A lot of the girls here dance to Mexican music that I don't really like. So I just want to make sure he plays something I like.

Thanks again for your help. I am still looking for suggestions. I checked out daddy yankee, maybe a little harsh for me. I can not find Shardai on the net.

We did a thread on this a while back, try giving a search thru this section, if i recall correctly "Selena" and "Gloria Estefan(sp?) and the Maimi Soundmachine" were some old school choices.

See if any of these links help.... music similar to, or liked by folks who like Shakira.

Also, I've seen some sites list the following artists as "similar"

    Celia Cruz
    La India
    Stacie Sandoval

If by "Shardai" LuckiCharm meant "Sade", I'm having a whole Denis Leary routine in my head right now.

Where I work there are about half the dancers who are from Argentina, Brazil, etc., so I have had to play a lot of Latin music, trust me! Now that the other DJ came back (I am very glad, too!), I will have more time to find even more stuff like this.

You might try some of the Shakira remixes, I much prefer them, especially:

    "Wherever, Whenever (dataluxe club mix)"
    "Suerte (extended dance remix)"

    You might try also:

    "Shake It" by Cabrera
"Hechicera (latin house mix)" by Mana (I think the original is too slow, maybe, so be careful). Cue it in a bit.
    "Suavemente" Elvis Crespo

If you like techno, there's a cool latin mix here:

"Samba (Roger Sanchez Darkstar mix)" Deep Dish-but cue it in at about 1:45 (one minute forty five seconds).

I will have more for you soon, if you like these, as I have a ton of this stuff, and I need to get many more myself for work!!

And this might help too.... I find a lot of stuff when I browse net radio stations. I take notes when I hear songs I like. Live365.com lets you search for things/artists you like, then lists stations that play that. I did a search for Shakira and found a lot of stuff. Cant hurt to click on a few and listen in.

    How about some of these:
Fat Boy Slim - Latin Club Mix
Celia Cruz - Moo La Lah - (only good if you can find a good remix)
    Robi Rob's Boriqua Anthem
Marc Anthony covers of Héctor Lavoe

I think you have to be careful about just saying "Latin" music becasue that can cover alot of latin american stuff that I dont particularly like. It sounds like you may be more into latin salsa beats. If you like it you should try learning some Salsa. IT IS THE BEST!!!
