Default why shoes over expensive clothes?

Me and my mother were having this huge debate over women paying thousands of dollars for shoes rather than her clothes?

We were watching Tyra banks show and Trumps daughter was on and she said her dress was only 25 dollars but her shoes were 1500? I turned to my mother and said why would she do that I rather spend that on my dress vs my shoes?

She said because you make your clothes but shoes are rare. So tell me what you think?

From a stipper's veiwpoint, I will not skimp on my shoes because that is the only thing I leave on at work.

Not sure what the deal was with Trump's daughter, though.

I think Trump's daughter is trying to give off some public persona of "I'm just like you because I bought this dress on sale... Only I'm actually better than you because my shoes are super expensive". Really, I'm sure that people who spend that much on shoes spend that much on clothes, too.

Also, it depends on the shoe. You can get a classic style and it will outlast the clothes. I tend to ruin more clothes than shoes over the course of a year. (Even though you don't need to spend that much to get a classic, well-made style.)

I heard that if you splurge, you should do so on accessories. It makes the whole outfit look expensive.

I'd rather have expensive shoes... those fuckers HOLD UP... expensive clothes? They always seem to shred in the wash and always need drycleaned and.. hassle!

Yes, it's true. I'm really big on handbags and shoes they make the whole outfit. I've worn a Target ensemble from head to toe (don't knock it, they have some really cute stuff! ) with Dior pumps and handbags and had plenty of girls thinking I bought the clothes from the same high end dept. store the shoes and purse came from. Then again it's not just what brand your accesories are, it's how you carry yourself in them. If you carry yourself in a sloppy manner, people will just assume your wearing knockoffs.

I have shoes I will wear three days in a row. I don't ever wear the same clothing three days in a row. You can get much more use out of shoes. However, if I had the money to spend on whatever I wanted I'd just buy what I like regardless of price and if it happened to be shoes, pants, whatever, so what.

Good shoes you forget are there. Bad shoes cripple you. Black oxfords are for work and casual dress. Thats all guys need to know.

Really, I think a designer purse will make an outfit look more high end than shoes... But that could just be me.

Designer purses scream 'cheap fake' to me... even if they're real.

Me too about 90% of the time I get vaguely disoriented by an 'expensive' purse. Really obviously well made purses stand out more regardless of their name brand...

Shoes are good to you no matter what. You can gain 15 pounds and age 15 years in the same shoes. They'll still look good. Clothes are fickle and require special care.

I use to be one of those ppl who never understood why spend so much on handbags and shoes, instead spending it on clothes. Now I think the other way around. Shoes and handbags can be classics and be used with everything, again and again. Clothes, trends come and go and I hate wearing the same thing alot of times. I rather spend little on clothes**unless it's a cashmere sweater(something soft, comfy and timeless)** & more on shoes, a handbag, a coat, or sunglasses too.

Makes more sense to me now.

I am hard pressed to believe that Ivanka Trump was really wearing a 25 dollar dress.

Personally, I buy one expensive thing... well, okay I buy expensive make up too and skin care, but I also buy designer purses. I feel like a purse is something that you carry every day, all the time and it is worth it to have a flashy designer one.

I will not have my nether regions kicked by anything that costs less than 90.00

One of the MANY things I can attribute to this site, is "Bargain shop everywhere, but NEVER skimp on the shoes"

I could understand why she would wear a $25 dress. Before she opened her mouth about the price, most people would have assumed it cost as much as her shoes because of her last name. She doesn't need to buy inexpensive clothing...although I bet she rarely does.

Shoes/handbags are alot easier to 'keep track of' or impress others I think. If you are wearing $600 Gucci or Blahnik heels, women who follow fashion meticulosly or love designer shoes will know that's what they are. If you wore a Gucci shirt and pants, someone will look at it and say "That looks nice" more often than they would say "I love your Gucci outfit."

Also, like Rozz wrote also, shoes always fit, no matter how much your weight may fluctuate.

Designer clothing is also intimidating for lots of people. If you have the season's hottest shoe (Louboutin) or a well made knock off (Steve Madden)- that is really all you need. Just wear those with some sexy jeans and a simple top, you can't go wrong. Women know how much other women check out their outfits...if someone has those 3 things more than likely she'll pass the "in" test. lol

it's pretty easy to find cheap clothes that look expensive, but with shoes....cheap shoes Always look like cheap shoes to me. a cheap pair of shoes will ruin even the most extravagent of dresses.

and i would imagine that the number of women who have a "thing" for expensive shoes has at least doubled since sex and the city started. those women have probably sold more shoes than the entire nordstrom shoe dept. sales team combined
