    Default How'd you get started?

Just curious... do you remember what made you decide you wanted to dance?

For me it was actually the money that first allured me to it. At the time I was about to go to college and my parents were in a lot of financial trouble. I ended up going to an amateur night and ended up doing really well, having taken pole dancing classes in high school at my local gym. I ended up staying with that club until I graduated college, and now work in Manhattan with a college degree (still dancing). I intend on using my degree someday, but I intend on leaving this business with my condo entirely paid off, and enough money in the bank until I don't have to worry about it anymore.

I've always been really independent. I have one sister and two brothers. My parents bought them all cars and are putting them all through college (rent and all). I bought my own car and I'm paying my own rent and my own tuition and everything (I hate people I love giving me money, it's weird). So, when such-and-such drama happened at the restaurant I was working at when I was 19 and I had to quit, I started doing internet porn. (Luckily, I had an eating disorder then and I was 80 lbs so I look nothing like myself.) Then, I figured I had gotten used to the naked thing enough to start stripping and do what I'd always wanted to. I'll graduate from college in a year and then I'll start a convential life-style. Until then, PAR-TAY!

I was taking pole dancing lessons and just fell in love with the whole pole dancing/exotic dancing movements and performance.
I am still studying so Im doing it to support myself, it's my only source of income.
I never thought I'd have the courage to do it but I'm glad I found SW!!

I worked regular coorperate jobs, even did the whole personal trainer thing, but working so hard to make some fat man in a suit richer wasn't my idea of a good time. I asked my hunny if he would be comfortable with the idea of me stripping, and he said "Hells yes!" so off I went! Yippeeeeee!

I very strangely cannot remember how it first got into my head. I do remember battling with the idea for months. I eventually googled stripping because I was so curious- I found stripperweb, read the newbie faq...juggled the idea around for another few months, trying to imagine if I could really get up the nerve- and then I just ordered shoes online. I told myself, when the shoes came, I'd just go do it. Then I did it. Whew!

I went to a strip club with a couple of guys just for fun! I was new in the city and was very curious. When I went to the strip club I fell in love with how glamorous, beautiful and exotic the girls looked. I was like...Oh, I wish I could look like them. I honestly didn't think I had a chance of working as one, always had a very low self esteem. But, somehow I got the guts to call and ask for an interview, I went there and got the job. I was so happy. lol

My military husband kicked me out for a 15 year old girl and then REFUSED to pay me my separation money ($400 p. month)... I was broke, working 40 hours a week to make $350 after taxes and my mum was telling me she'd kick me out in two weeks if I didn't start paying more ($650) rent to her.

I had $60 left in my account and the shoes were $59.

Wow lilithmorrigan, that's awful. I can't imagine how sad and alone you must have felt. But in a way, I'm glad it happened to you. Now you know how strong you really are. You are independent and don't need any one to support you. You rock girl!

I got started sort of by accident...I went in to apply for a waitressing position, but I wasn't 21 and they sold liquor (I didn't realize)...And they wanted me to be a dancer so I just shrugged and said yes and BAM! After my first club I went about 8 months before jumping back in again...It's always when I'm broke and need a quick solution...I also love the "rock star" feel, it's addicting.

I actually started dancing with a female review when I was a freshman in college. I've always been something of an exhibitionist, so when I saw the ad in the paper for a part-time job with full-time + pay, I called right away. I danced with the review for a few years, and then decided to try out clubs, then got into featuring.

A couple of things. It was almost the end of the semester and summer at college. I thought I was getting a job w/ the school but 2 weeks before the semester ended it turned out I did not get the job. I had enough savings to last me about 2 months... I had a high school friend who was dancing inSF and making good money. Here in Portland girls I knew off of SuicideGirls were dancers at a great venue at which the women were depicted very well. I knew I had an in at this one venue and started working one day a week... I had landed a retail job at Nordstrom's. The first day that I was supposed to start job training at 7 am I called them, said I had found another job, and come in to work at the club at 7 pm...

I went to a club to apply for a waitress position. While filling out the app an agent approached me and asked if I'd be intersted in dancing. I told him no way and that would nver happen. He said I had a job if I came back the next day and got on stage.

I went back, did a shot...... and that was 10 1/2 yrs ago.

I had been working corporate jobs that i hated for so long, i dropped everything and decided to be a horse groom because i needed to get out of the city that was driving me insane. however, picking up shit for 7 horses on my own was a far cry from an easier life. so one night, while sleeping in the back of a horse box (after id cleaned it out) at yet another miles away show in the pouring rain i said "fuck this, im going to be a stripper".

i was attracted to the idea of money and glamour and being SOMETHING, being noticed, something i was used to and never got in London.

i had no idea it would be one of the hardest jobs i have ever done. the first few months were fun and i made some money, but my self esteem wasnt great so eventually i left due to anxiety and panic attacks.

2yrs later and a bit of growing up and i am back and determined to make it work this time around.

my whole life i've worried about money. since i was a young child. my parents are quite young and have always been poor at managing their finances. i got a job at 12 just so i could afford to buy dinner at school.

i worried so much about money i was always thinking of 'get rich quick' schemes, even from an early age! eventually as i got older the idea of stripping popped into my head and i must have mulled around the idea for maybe a year!
i'm not naturally an exhibitionist so it was a hard thing for me to do. eventually i got a job as a waitress in a strip club so i could see what really went on and after about six months working there i plucked up the courage to auditon.
that was six months ago and i'm finally settling in now, i didn't realize it would be as hard as it is but i'm pleased i did it.

I'd been thinking about dancing for around a year, but could never get the courage to audition. My relationship began going sour, so I knew I would need more money than I had to move out of his apartment. Even though I was motivated, I still flaked out when I went in the club- I asked about waitressing. They told me I should dance, so I did that instead.

I was a broke college freshman (eating Ramen twice daily for an entire month broke) and one day this guy took me out to a local strip club and as soon as I walked in I saw a friend of mine hanging upside down from the pole. I spoke to her about the job and she kind of encouraged me to try it out so I did. I remember making $17 on my stage set during my audition and being so excited to make $17 in 7 minutes versus about $6 an HOUR at my part-time campus job. It took me a looooong time to even consider eating Ramen after that.

I don't exactly remember when the idea popped into my head but I do remember I was sitting in my $100/week job, on the computer and I Googled some strip clubs in DC. I said to myself, "I look as good as or better than most of these women, I can do this." And off I went. I looked at a couple of clubs and when I got to the last one, he told me to go get dressed for an audition. I was completely unprepared (I hadn't shaved my cooch or anything) so he let me come back a couple of days later. I had to borrow shoes from another girl (because the ones I brought were not going to cut it) and I had no idea how to walk in 6 inch platform stilettos! I went to sit down and check it out and the manager kept trying to reassure me by pointing out girls who had just started and saying, "See, she's doing great and she's only been dancing for one week." He was lying his ass off of course but it helped. I finally got up on stage and I know I looked like a deer caught in headlights for that entire song. But I got the job, said fuck you to $100/week and 5 years later, I'm still loving it (for the most part!)

I was working as one of the house Dommes at a dungeon that wasn't advertising as much as it should have. I was trying to live on $300 - $400 a week (in Hollywood) and I'd have to borrow money from my ex a lot just to get by. I felt like he resented having to give me money (while HE was making almost $200 a day most of the time as a tattoo artist) so I decided to find a way to make more.
I said "there is no way in hell that he deserves to make more than I do!" and walked into a well known club in the area. I met with the owner and he let me work the next day. I really hated it at first though, because I had no idea how to hustle and thought that people were supposed to approach me. Most of my dances were done for drunk women who asked me for dances straight out! I quit after 4 shifts and got a job at the tattoo shop.

Going back into it was similar. I was working a shitty part time job, basically annoying decent people about movie surveys over the phone. I decided to go to another club and fit in really well there. I stayed for 8 months or so before "graduating" to a high hustle club with more money.

I had never really thought of stripping until a friend of mine and I went to Deja Vu to visit the sex store. I don't know if all 'Vu's are like this one, but the Strip club was in the same building, just down a small hall. Anyways, while shopping, the manager approached me and asked if I wanted to dance. I said "sure, why not?" I have always been a bit of an exabitionist. But I think what mad me say yes in the first place was that my mom was going through a divorce with my sisters dad, and the rotten piece of shit that he is, drained the account and left her with nothing for us to live on. She was working P/T at a bakery for minimum wage and collecting welfare. Ends weren't meeting, and the house was going to be repo'ed by the bank if she couldn't catch up on mortgage payments. The Electricity was going to be shut off soon, and my little sis needed some school supplies. I was able to make enough for my Mom to keep the house, pay the bills, clothe my sister and put food on the table. My mom didn't know where the money was coming from at first but she kinda suspected. It was a huge relief for her when I handed over a wad of cash. Although she did say it was weird to have her then 18yr old daughter supporting us! But all is good now!

I also had a friend in the business that was always trying to get me to come work with her. It was something I had always wanted to try, but I was so nervous about it. I got fired from my other job for being to "scandalous" with the dress-code. Then two days later I got a call from a collection agency telling me I had 2 weeks to pay off my tuition or the school would take me to court. It just seemed to fit. Stage was a breeze for me, I've always been a performer. I did opera and theatre when I was younger. But for the life of me, I could not sit and talk with a customer. I stuck it out anyways cause I was still making more in a night than I did in a week at my old job. I love my job now though, I'm so glad I found stripping!

one day i went to the strip club with a few guy friends.... this was my first time ever being inside a strip club. the club was kinda dead and i was the only girl customer there, so the strippers started flirting with me and guys were giving me money to tip the strippers with. this was in canada, so i had to get up on stage with a toonie. the dancer's name was autumn and she was pretty much giving me a free dance on the stage, and all the guys were cheering and encouraging me to get naked too! so autumn took off my top for me and we did a little show together. everyone was giving me free shots and i ended up getting wasted and autumn gave me her phone number and told me to call her if i ever wanted to start stripping. the DJ was on the microphone saying that i was smoking hot.... and it was so much fun that i wanted to do it again. a few months later the club had an amateur contest going on, so i went back and entered the contest and said hi to autumn. i ended up winning 3rd place in the contest, and then the club let me work for the rest of the night. everyone was buying dances and i didn't even know how to do lapdances, but i just did my best and asked autumn for tips. i went home with like $500, which was a fortune to me because i had been making 6 bucks an hour my whole life. i felt like i had won the freaking lottery, and all i did was dance around and get drunk for free and PARTY! i fell in love with stripping and thought it was the best job ever. i worked at that club in canada for a long time, then i got busted for some shit and am now on probation in the united states, so i am not allowed to go to canada anymore. i started working in detroit, which was very high mileage and very stressful. i didn't make hardly any money and i got very depressed, so i just quit stripping. at my old club in canada, there was no touching at all, so i decided that i would rather not strip at all than to let guys grope me during lapdances and make me feel like shit.

however, if there were any clubs in my area that weren't dirty whorehouses, i would LOVE stripping again!!!

Miss Luscious... I would swear I was reading my post if it didn't have your name at the top!!

Must be DC. I had the same reaction the first time I went in a club there. I went on a date and this guy took me to a club. I had never been in an SC in my entire life. (My fam would have killed me.) I thought that strippers were all perfect little barie dolls. I went in one, sat and watched maybe 6-8 sets, saw a lot of money, and said to myself, "They're just regular women with make-up on. I can do that."

And so I called the club and asked about an interview. I showed up but when I learned it was an audition (never applied for a job like that before) I said that I couldn't that night - I didn't have clothes or shoes and I hadn't shaved. (LOL Miss Lucious, see!!) So I came back a few nights later, except that instead of an audition they had put me on the schedule. When I asked about that, the manager Teddy said to me, "Well, are you going to get naked?" I told him that I intended to, at which point he told me I was already hired as long as I wasn't too scared to take my clothes off. I can do that.
