    Default An Anime Moment

So I've been on a bit of an I'm Bored I'll Watch Anime Shows fest of late.... and at one point, in one show, it made me think of Mast (cause he usually likes live sea creatures in his pants). So I did a lil screenshooting.... and felt that I should share. Even if these pics don't remind folks of Mastypants, the idea is rather funny.

So yeah... hey Mastypants? Go put on a suit and I'll go get my lab coat.

Humm.. I still can't get into anime all that much. I think Cowboy Bebop pretty much ruined me, as I can't find much of anything anything that stands up to it's quality... beyond say Akira or Ghost in the Machine..

I mean, everything seems so Bubblegum Crisis-ish or Dragonball Z-ish or they're doing weird things like putting live octopi down their drawers... sigh.. I miss Bebop.

This doesn't have anything to do with Giant Squid thread? *furrows eyebrows*

    EDIT:
Oh! And as for the comment above, try 'Black Lagoon'. It's outrageously exaggerated while somewhat believable in the sense of extended reality..
    ...

    Just.. watch it.

Nah, but I hear, from reliable sources, that Mastypants had a romantic fling with a giant Sea Urchin once.... he was young, they were in Cabo.... lots of Tequila.

If this is relevant...once I had a dream about a teacher I had a crush on and a giant sea urchin....it was the best wet dream I've ever had.

<<<<<<<<<<<<< craving some Full Metal Alchemist !!!!

A friend in Darwin got me started on the series and now I want more! I've forgotten where I was up to in it.... anyone want to burn me a copy of the series j/k!

This friend also kinda introduced me to anime. I was a little skeptical about it all prior to this as I thought it was too cheesy or warped or whatever... now I get it.. now I like it.

wow... I need to get in the loop. I just stumble upon anime when I watch it at other's houses, FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Gantz (which I think must have been written by 12 year old boys), anything else that manages to break my brain...

FMA is great because they Packed the thickest story into 52 episodes. After episode 9 you need to just stop going anywhere for information besides the shows. The stories are so intertwined and deep that you'll give yourself the story away.

Taco: it's Ghost in the Shell! And most people get ruined on anime because the first 13 episodes are normally feelers for content, it generally gets serious after the tenth episode if it's intended for adults, you may try Trigun if you like Cowboy Bebop. Firefly for those live action Cowboy Bebop fans.

I recommend S-CRY-ED and for those who want a story without super powers and such, Paranoia Agent is where it's at. That show FUCKS me up.

Have you seen the movie, Serenity? Sooo good... doesn't entirely line up with the plot line of the series perfectly, but does it justice. I wish they had not canceled it!

Being a fan of the show, the movie made me rather mad. As a stand alone film, it would have been entertaining.

How could that movie have possibly been bad?!

I binged the whole series. I saw out of gas, and binged the remainder of the series. (this is why I don't watch tv)

And I saw the movie and had like 0 problems with it. I mean, it just seemed like 3 episodes!

    1) they changed the idea behind the reavers' origins. Boooo.

    2) River was... well... without them having fleshed out her badassness in the show, having her uberbadass in the movie was a bit much.

    3) NO KILLING WASH YOU FUCKS. (or any of the rest of them, for that matter)

I don't know about the original reavers origins, maybe in the expanded series, but I thought the reavers' stories where completely congruent, anything thought of of them was legend until in the movie where the figured out the truth. They have an episode that supports this where they took a captive on board and he became one of them. The ONLY loophole I saw, which is more of an opening for story telling than anything, is how they can hold it together long enough to fly fleets of ship, and infect others.

It was almost a DEAD giveaway in the series that River was being turned into a human fighting machine. I mean there was episode after episode supporting this, I'd almost say Joss stole the idea right from Dark Angel, but honestly? I think that was the BEST subplot of the series.

I did love wash. But there is something to be said about a writer not being afraid to kill off an integral character. As in my favorite anime, probably one of the most vicious murders, I would tell but I don't want to ruin anything for FMA fans.

As much as I hate to say it, this series holds itself together. I understand that the fans love it, and the cast was near perfect and I typically find myself steering away from live-action tv shows, but this show fits one golden rule for me in fantasy, that is unbelievable for it's run time.

Fantasy's golden rule is simply reality. If one can tell a story, short or long, that does so well in it's depiction and representation to the viewer's eyes that the teller can make the fantasy feel so real, that the perception of actual reality of the viewer is influenced by the fantasy, then really, what is fantasy?

The only major incongruency I see between the Movie and the series seems to be the way that Simon rescues river. In the series I believe he mentioned something about paying a guy a lot to ship her out (hence the state she arrives in in the series), but in the Movie he goes in for a dramatic rescue. The Reavers' origins were merely speculated upon in the series, never truly explained. I really wish the series could have kept going... I want to know who Book was, my guess is something crazy like an operative.

Oh, and I think Kaylee shouldn't have had to shed a few lbs for the big screen... if you watch the interviews on the DVD the creators explain they wanted to her to look carefree like a "girl who wouldn't be afraid to eat a burger", and actually made the actress gain some weight for the role... but alas, the whole series had to be conformed to mass consumption, I'm just happy to have some form of "closure" lol

Mast & Weezo, I couldn't have put it better myself, on both River and the Reavers. I think the hints at River's ultimate purpose were all right there (recall that the whole season got cruelly cut off - there's no doubt in my mind that there would have been more and more development in that direction if it had been allowed to run its course). Remember when they raided Niska's ship, and Kaylee was backing into a corner, and River came up from behind her, took her gun, glanced ONCE at the three advancing thugs, then turned her head away and closed her eyes, firing three perfectly deadly shots.

As far as killing off characters goes, this is something I admire in Joss' writing. It's a principled decision on his part. He took a LOT of heat for killing off a beloved (by some) character in one of the later seasons of Buffy. To me, making it clear that just because a character is one of the stars does NOT mean that they are immortal is crucial to the believability and urgency of any given situation. If you 'know' that all the heroes are always going to miraculously escape any real danger, then what's the risk? Really, why should we care? I LOVED Wash, and I also think that killing both him and Book were good decisions, however tough they were (Joss doesn't take the killing lightly, either).

Plus, it doesn't mean that Wash would NOT appear in any future series and/or movie. The fact that there'a a whole lot of backstory left to be filled in for all, the characters, including Wash and Book, means that there's flashback opportunity aplenty!

    I can dream, can't I?

Yeah that has a lot of hardcore fans annoyed too. Ugh.

I dunno. I just cant like movies that are altered like that.... even if it's not all that much in the grand scheme. And also, a lot of the bitterness I have for the show ending was made moreso by the killing off of characters. It makes it feel like there is no chance in hell for them ever resurrecting the show (which I'm sure is true but... give us our dreams dammit)....

    but yeah.... anime.. um....

Shenanigans! Where's the proof on that? My understanding is that he paid someone to get him the credentials to get INTO the holding block, not to get her out. Actually, I remember him stating that NO ONE would help get her out. However, I'm sure I am wrong on this, wont argue otherwise since I don't have info to back it up and am too busy to look.
