Default Anyone ever worked for Hooters?

I danced for about a year, and I quit a while back because of the stress, worrying about the club being busted, not liking lying to people, and because I got a wonderful boyfriend who never asked me to stop stripping, but I know it made him very happy when I did quit.

Problem is, now I have this miserable retail job at a computer store, where I make $7.75 an hour. I don't mind using my sex appeal to make money at all, in fact, i really would like to (I won't be young forever ) but I think it would be bad for my relationship if I went back to stripping. It might not be bad for it, but i love my boyfriend so much, I don't want to put it in jeopardy at all.

So, I'd really like to find a sort of middle ground.. a job where I can use my sex appeal to get money, but something my boyfriend can be more comfortable with, and where I can feel safer, etc.

So I was thinking about waitressing at Hooters. I've never waitressed before. Has anyone worked there? Any stories, suggestions, comments?

    Thank in advance!

Yeah, so stupid me, I forgot to do a search before posting this

Seems like the consensus is that it's a pretty crappy place. I think I'll just go apply at some regular restaurants. Sigh..

Did I miss your answer, or why not waitress at a strip club?

Hmm.. Didn't think too much about waitressing at a strip club. I think if I'm going to be lying to my parents about where I work, I might as well be making $500 a night (which is why I didn't like working at an upscale topless bar -- you got to keep your bottoms on and there were fewer prostitues, but if i'm going to be lying about where I'm working, I want it to be reeeallly worth it). From the threads I read when I searched under "hooters," it sounded like waitresses there have to deal with as much shit as dancers do, but they get paid much less. I'm asking for a raise at the computer store.. if they give it to me, i'll stay, and if they don't, I'll apply to all the local restaurants.

Sigh... I just want to graduate and get my big salary job already!

honestly, i made more money working at hooters than waitressing at a strip club. and as for it being a crappy place to work, i think that all depends on the store. franchise or corporatet, location, "rank".. these things all make a huge difference. i worked at a corporate store in the inner harbor that was best store in the region 8 years in a row. i worked there for almost a year and i loved it the entire time. maybe other people dont think so, but at least for me, i thought it was awesome.

I would rather suck dick at the bus stop than waitress again. Waitressing has got to be the most degrading job on the planet. Hooters seems to combine the worst of both stripping and waitressing with none of the benefits.

I really hope you get that raise. I would hate to see you waitress. I did it for 10 years and I was good at it, but I honestly can't think of a more degrading job and I hope my kid never has to do it.

Wow... I hope I get the raise too!

Maybe I'll just give up and get a damn student loan to sustain me until I graduate... Working sucks, lol. Why don't I have rich relatives?!

I worked at hooters for 6 months and than became a stripper. I would say that stripping is really easier for me, just have to find the right club.

Money: You will probably make 25% more than a regular waitress at dennys but more stress than a regular waitress.

Girls: I would have to say the girls are more bitchy than girls working at strip clubs! shocking but true. But you have to know that some of the girls is in high school and not there really for the money but for boys, attention and talking shit all day.
Of course not all the girls is bad but you have to know you will be working with some immature high school bitches.

Uniform: OMG it is horrible! i hated that crap! Yes of course the guys loved it and you do feel cute but it was too tight everywhere, orange is really not a forgiving color.

You could always give it a try... i mean why not? but Overall I would say if you choose to work as a waitress ... its better to work at apple bees or something... a little less money but at least you don't have all the stress that goes with hooters...

Right on! Waitressing was hell! Hooters seems to be a horrible combination of hte worst parts of each world! (Have you seen their dance to YMCA? It's like trained monkey's or something) Your comment also reminded me of that hype over the K Fed commerical to be aired on the superbowl (although I was too drunk to rememeber/see it). They were complaining that it made food service seem "degrading" and blah blah blah. I was yelling at the radio. "IT IS!" ugh, I'll never go back!

Still, if you're having such a hard times making ends meet, at least TRY it... just don't quit your day job.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

Ack, if you live in or around San Diego and you want even a slightly better job, call up Nu-Cota or Qualitex. They're some Home Remodeling companies and you could get a job in the marketing department, going to shows and sitting around for 12 bucks an hour and if you make leads that sell you get 1 or 2 percent commission. It's obviously not the most awesome job ever, but it sure beats 7.75, eh?

PM me if you're in SD!

Or get some waitressing exp. at a Denny's or Applebee's or something and then move up to the nicer restaurants for bigger tip$. But I've never waitressed so I don't know how tolerable all that is.

Nope, I'm in Riverside, about 2 hours north of San Diego. That sounds like an awesome gig, though.

I'll probably find out if I get my raise by the end of this week.. I'll update! *crosses fingers*

I was a Hooters girl. Which is pretty funny, because I'm like a b cup and had to stuff my bra. It's okay, it's easy as far as waitressing goes bc you don't have to carry a tray. I like dancing much better, but its a good company. They do tuition reimbursment too.

I've never worked at hooters, but I waitress part time at a bar/restuarant and our uniform there is shorts and a cleavage bearing top. The money there is not that great. Guys still flirt with me and ask me out on dates, just like being a dancer, and then tip me between shitty and average (15&#37. And this is after I get told that I'm doing a great job. Plus, it's a whole lot more running around and more stress. If you are going to waitress, do it at a restuarant where the price of food is higher.

Update: So I didn't get the raise.. grr.. So I put in my 2 weeks notice yesterday. I had a brilliant idea (I think)! I'm a total foodie, and I looooove Trader Joe's, so I went there to apply today! Everyone was super nice and the manager said there's a good chance they'll hire me. The best part?! They start at $9 an hour!

I'll update soon! If they're full at this Trader Joe's, there's another one a little farther away I can apply at.

UPDATE! So the TJ's wasn't hiring, it seems. So I went around to tons of places, and I finally got called back this morning! There's a little Japanese restaurant close to my house that needed a hostess. The owner said that they'll move me to waitress pretty quick, as soon as I get the hang of the place. So I'll get a whole quarter more! $8 an hour.. haha.. but it's better than before, anyway, and the owner said that the waitresses share tips with hostesses.

I hope this works out! I go in to work tomorrow night! Yay!

How about try being a bartender in popular pub or tavern style establishment? One of those places where people go after work for a couple of beers or to watch sporting events, but not one of the big restaurant chain type places. More of a mom and pop establishment. I can't think of a neighborhood that doesn't have at least one of those kind of taverns.

A friend of mine made great money working at just such a place, on par with the kind of income that a stripper in Portland could reasonably expect earn in a shift ($150-300 a shift in tips), and she got a paycheck too!

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

If TJ's seemed like a good idea, maybe try Whole Foods and Bristol Farms?

No one goes there for the food anyway. Even after they update their menu its ridiculous. They used to do their wings which everyone seems to love but is like 90's grease for like 4.99 now they charge 7.99.

It was fun for maybe a few months but it gets old and youre better off stripping, you get paid better to put up with the comments and idiocy.
