    Default Exclusitivity...

Well, that's it... I was asked to be exclusive - on Fridays!

I'm not sure how good or calculated of a move this is for me. I am guaranteed work every single Friday if I'm exclusive. Problem is: That could be as little as $80. This Friday I have $200 of work from another agent alone... but I'm stopping Friday work with her next week.

How good of an idea is this? I mean, they would DEFINITELY give me more work because of it, seeing as all the pub shifts I'd get on Fridays would mean they would owe ME money... and I'd be damned if an agent banks me! Especially this one! They always make sure I owe them... which means at least two shows a week to make up for one waitressing shift every friday... so I suppose that means I'm guaranteed $500 a week minimum.

    Good idea?

    Bad?

... at leas this way I can make my own website and promote myself under them once they decide to full-on me.

hmmm... hard to say. by going exclusive to one agent on friday nights, are you going to piss off the other agents and cause them to stop giving you work on saturday nights? although it could financially work in your favour for fridays, could it potentially fuck you for saturdays?

i only ever worked exclusive to one agent, and that always worked very much in my favour... but we both know how different it is here compared to QLD.

if you turn down the offer of exclusitivity, do you think this agent would cut you off?

This agent would most definitely not cut me off - but neither would the others, per say.

The agent this Friday and the agent this Saturday are really good friends... and this Friday (hereby known as IE) knows I'll do shifts for her on Wednesday, Tuesday, etc... because she offers them (and I hate not working weekdays, so I pick 'em up)....

The one that wants me exclusive (RH) has already been known to be trying to claim me... other, less friendly, agents have slowly ceased giving me work as RH has been giving me SO MUCH, I keep turning down others. They've been letting it known that they want me exclusive to other agents - other agents have told me.

Lately, there's even been fights for it (where a 3rd agent said I was booked when I wasn't so they could have me free that day!) because it seems RH is trying to get me.

I'm duo with an exclusive RH person, and she ONLY duos with one person, as she's very hygienic... so I doubt they'd ever give me less work just for that.

In the end it seems profitable and a good idea... especially since work from other agents is already dwindling because they know RH wants me so bad. The others still give me work... but it's so much rarer now.

I've already told you how much you should jump on this Morr. Go for it! You have been doing well with this particular agent (RH) for ages now so why should not want to be exclusive with them? Yes the other agencies will gradually cease to give you work because of your exclusivity with them (it's only natural) however really is that such a loss on your end? From our convos it hasn't been really.

Being exclusive to this one agent on a Friday might mean less work on Sat from other agents yet in the end isn't being exclusive to an agent worth it?

Plus, as you said, if you do become exclusive to one agent then you can create a website and promo yourself without a problem and thus this means more work for you in the end (right?).

Yes things do work differently here in QLD to SA/Adelaide however at the same it isn't that different and it isn't like you are being exclusive to a small agency. They are one of the "bigger" ones.

Think of the long term picture here not the short term one. Yes you may initially have low earning weeks due to the exclusivity (even one day per week as this is a way the agent/agency is showing everyone else they want you and they don't want to share you thus yes some of the other agents may not offer so much work your way) however at the same time in the end it will work out better for you. It will.

Go for it. Do it ! Do it ! Do it !

What do you mean by they make sure you owe them? How do they do that? The only way I can imagine it happening is by them paying you for work not yet done, which seems unlikely.

$500 minimum steady income a week seems to me to be too good to pass up.

On frida pub shifts, they bank me $80... Which normally means I just take $80 out of what I pay them because I get cash and they get a cut. Since a normal show is $50 theirs.. they'd need to give me two shows so that I owed them money instead of them owing me.

    And they NEVER owe.

I just remembered... what does this mean if I want to take a Friday off? Or if I go to Darwin or something?

    :/

You take a Friday off and go to Darwin. You are in good standing with this company Morr. They won't all of a sudden think bad of you because you want to take a friday night off or want to go else-where to work.

At the same, it is because you don't travel elsewhere to work (remember how it did impact me.. it was a catch 22.. I wasn't getting work at home so I travelled and it was because I travelled so much I didn't get much work back home) and are really reliable and usually available week to week that you were offered this in the first place.

Taking one week or night off every so often is okay. They should understand you need a break every so often however going to Darwin or anywhere for 2-3 weeks at time for work might impact you..............especially if you do it often enough.

Plus does this particular agency offer the Darwin contract? If not, then you may have a problem as they want you to work exclusively for them. See if they are willing to take on the contract.
