Default What to do about bartenders stealing?

I have one certain gogo bar I go to. Higher class place. The dancers are great. The last 2 times I was there the bartender stole money from me. I don't go very often, but when I do I go and get hammered and have a good time. There happens to be a motel next door so I stay there instead of driving . I have been doin this for years and know many of the dancers very well (even dated one). What happens is, I get distracted (amagine that) then while a bartender is getting me a drink, they just take the money from my pile. The first time I wasn't sure, but the second I know they did it. When I asked the dancer I know there, she said "they do it all the time". Now I don't go there much anymore, but when I do I spend a shitload of money. The owner and bouncer buys me drinks etc. I don't wanna insult anyone, but this is lame. What would you do? Try to catch them? I don't wanna be known as the "snitch guy", but I don't like being taken advantage of either. If anyone here dances there, you know who I am by my pic. I am VERY generous to both the dancers and bartenders. I almost always have a dancer sitting with me and thats when it seems to happen. Pulling my money from my pocket every ten second to give a tip kinda sucks. Should I raise hell next time or is this just a bartender "hustling".

Remain sober.......... Since as you say, your hammered ; who the fuck knows what really happened. You left money on the bar..... sort of signals you intention to use it. Most bartenders would simply take payment and return the change to the pile regardless of the sort of bar. Bartenders are expected to be complete mixologists, great listeners, extremely accomadating, and unobtrusive. So if you find one tell the rest of us.

First of all, I think it's awesome that you stay in a motel and don't drive home. If you are SURE they are stealing, you could go one of two ways.

If you don't want to be a snitch, DON'T leave a stack of money on the bar. Don't open a tab, either, because they could ring up your tab so you tip them more. Pay for each drink seperately and put the change in y our pocket each time.

Or if you feel like you should say something, tell the manager that you're not sure and not blaming anyone but you think it's happening. Point blank, it's wrong to steal. That said, I would feel bad if I got someone fired too.

I would do option number one, or sit at a table and get a waitress you trust and like to run you a tab.

    I agree with Vegasprincess-

You could confront the bartender, and if she did it again, tell the manager.

Or, DON"T LEAVE YOUR MONEY ON THE BAR!!! There is no reason for that- I know that custies used to do that at my old club, to attract the girls (or as they claim, it's easier to have access to). The problem with the access thing, is that people like the bartender can get to it as well!

I say sit with the SAME bartender, and pay for drinks as you go. Don't tip her until the end. I bet you 100 bucks she'll get the idea. She's used to you doing the same thing week after week, so I bet she'll figure out you are on to her.
And if she says something about 'tipping' her, tell her you'll get her at the end of the night, this time you are keeping tabs on your cash.

Well, I have been a bartender for 15 years. When someone orders a drink and they have money in front of them, and make no moves whatsoever to give me the money to pay for the drink I just gave them, I take it from the pile in front of them.

Never once - not once - in 15 years, has this practice been an issue for anyone, customer or bartender. Unless you are running a tab, you pay for the drink when you get it. We usually do not have the time to wait for you to get around to giving us the money.

I bartend as well, but I don't think his issue was with taking the money owed for the drink, but taking more than was owed. I do the same, make the drink, and once delivered take the money from the pile in front of the customer. Especially if they're busy talking to a dancer, etc. But I do make a point of counting clearly what I'm picking up (if it's singles) or if it's a 20, putting the change down on the pile in a different direction as the money that was already there (think: X shape). So that if the customer looks down he can clearly see the change I've returned and count it if he so desires. I've watched quite a few bartenders take money from me at other bars and it grates my ass, so I'm hyper-conscious of it.

I don't mind when the bartender takes from the pile for a drink. As a matter of fact, I appreciate it. After I have been to a bar a few times, talked to the same bartender and we have gotten to know each other I would like to think I can trust them to do so. Its not so much the money, its idea of being taken advantage of.

so what was the situation? Did you run a tab and the bartender took the money? Were you paying as you go?

I cant tell if you have a legitimate complaint or you don't without more info.

I was paying as I go. As I said in my last post, I really didn't mind her just taking from the pile for my drinks. I had been goin there for years and doing the same. When I was younger prolly twice a week. Now, maybe once a month to once every few months. Obviously 2 parts were my fault. Getting hammered is one. But in all fairness, I don't mean falling down drunk. I mean doin shots and having a good time with the ladies, letting loose a little. The second part that is my fault is being too trusting. But again, as I said, I have been doing this for years there. It isn't a dive bar, its a gentlemen's club with very high priced drinks etc. I'm just reitterating a little on what I already posted for ya.

Okay, so is the bartender stealing from you, or is he just taking the money you owe for the drinks? You might see that as presumptuous, but you just said that you keep your money on the bar so you don't have to go to all the trouble of putting your hands into your pockets. He might not be so off base thinking that you don't want to be bothered counting it out. If he is taking in excess - that is a problem. That is what we want to know.

It's wrong to steal. It is refreshing to meet someone who trusts other people to leave his money alone in a bar.

But if you know someone is stealing from you and you still leave your money in a pile and don't pay attention to it, that is sort of foolish, don't you think?

Not only being a dancer, I bartend at the same club I dance at, and have bartended years prior to starting to dance..
When I see guys(I don't know) haveing a good time and letting loose, I will tell them to pick it up and put it in their pocket..

I work with other bartenders, and dancers I have seen just take money out of a pile, not even when getting a drink ect...
I have been at my bar almost 5 years, I still w/ customers I know, say their name and show them what money I have picked up, and they always give me the hand wave of , its you Cyn, I know I'm good...
I have some who will only open a credit card when I am behind the bar because we have had others just load up drinks and or a tip on credit cards....(bar tending shifts are given to you by how much you sell on your shifts) When I give change back for a large bill, I won't set it on the bar at all, I get their attention, let them see what they are getting back, and hand it to them...With ones I know well, and smaller amounts, the same as Phonix Rising, laying cross wise, so at a quick glance they see what they have...

I have no tolerance for this ever !!!!! Not so much as a damn dollar !!!
You worked for that money, I would hope you would say something, confront who ever it is !!!

This is the longest post I've ever had, because this makes me so so mad....
I work for every dollar I have and no one has a right to just take any more then the cost of the transaction !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    UGH !!!!!!!!!!!! Great bartenders unite!!!!!!!!!!!
There is no better buzz then busting a nut !!!
